  1. Rebus puts it more simply, stepping back up the stairs as twin pulses of ordered darkness and lightning are emitted from the orb. “So normal computers send electrons around to do math. The orb is seemingly Ennulling electrons out of existence, causing the electron hole - the place the electron isn’t - to propagate through the nanomachines and perform computations in a Silence-y way.” Rebus shrugs, “The lightning here are electrons trying to fill in the holes. I believe this will eventually get problematic - acids have electron deficients, and random lightning is probably bad for people not made of nanomachines, and even those who are.”
  2. “Not speaking, per se, but it’s building up a high positive charge, and its signals are electron holes running in reverse. This is going to be a pain to interpret...”
  3. I am unsure. A couple of other people mentioned it and ADHD, but if not, we should make a neurodivergence thread.
  4. Rebus leaves her in the armchair, then, hoping no loose memories come into contact with feverish Authors. He walks down and holds out a hand. Lightning arcs off of it because of the orb, and he studies it, seemingly unperturbed by the electrical arcs. Suddenly, he begins to laugh. “It’s speaking in silence!”
  5. The bug figures it’s not worth the trouble and decided to fly away. Rebus restructures the floor into some stairs so he and Lady Bug can investigate the orb further.
  6. You’d have to time the time between participants, though. A fly angrily hovers in front of her face. “That’s mean! We’re not all bad, you know.”
  7. Rebus grins, checking his various sources of nanomachines and other equipment. “The records are supposedly in a ruined underground building, somewhere around here.” He holds up a holographic map with an area marked on it. @SpiritOfWrath Yeah, that could be interesting. Though synchronization and recursion could be important to deal with.
  8. That sounds pretty cool if implemented well, actually. I’d probably join. Rebus (prime) smiles and peers at the lip of the hole. “Was the power here, before?” “@SpiritOfWrath @Ookla the Irreplaceable. Shall we start our quest? I hear there are records of the lost piece of Plot’s corpse.” Rebus says.
  9. Why would that be a problem? Or occur? Rebus (prime) cuts both dice in half at an angle, using a molecular blade. He places half white dice facing down in both slots, then puts the black dice on top, rotated so one displays one pip, and the other displays three. “I did it, but I may have cheated.”
  10. @Ookla the Irreplaceable Rebus smiles. “Excellent! My Author has school as well, so it shouldn’t be much of a problem. We’re looking for a lost piece of Plot to key into Plotblades - though this far we don’t know where it ended up.”
  11. “I have several, but I’d still want to find an Author. Mine taught Bat to say tags, so I can too.” Rebus utters a phrase that seems more significant than the ear can hear, realer than everything around them. “@SpiritOfWrath, would you run a Plotblade quest for us?”
  12. Rebus nods thoughtfully. “We already have a Void… the Intelligence is decent, but it’s a rather long name…” The Ennulling orb in question continues to hover in the air, electricity arcing off the walls into it. Rebus makes a nearby nanoconstruct fill out some belated permits for messing around with Nullite. @Ookla the Irreplaceable Rebus waves a hand in front of Atrieties’s face. “Your Author is back, you know.”
  13. Rebus (prime) picks the dice up, turning them over in his hands and examining the symbols to see if he recognizes them. “My first instinct is to use the white die as a mathematical symbol. My second is to cut them both in half, but that is rather drastic. Do I get more than one attempt?”
  14. "That's good, I suppose. My Author will consider any suggestions in the morning." Well... You can try talking to her. Part of the issue is that the Authors are sidestepping the role of Narrators. Rebus is... not a great messenger, but Narrators in general exist to be an avatar for their Author. Tam suppressing her Narration, and then discovering her Author is talking to people on her own... I think she's afraid. And also blatant reminders of fictionality are pretty jarring for half of people, though reassuring for the other half. Anyway, I can get you to Tam so you can try to talk - more Authorial interference would probably make it worse, and I should go to sleep anyway. Say @Dragonheir if you ever need me - I shall see you later. A Rebusnet teleportation node conveniently happens to be near Tam, and Bat's teleportation beacon has received a firmware update to link to the network and use it for free.
  15. Rebus nods, intrigued. "I meant the spontaneous intelligence aspect. I tried to do some experiments with Nullite, and made some sort of Ennuller emulation that has developed a mind. It does need a name, but my Author has a lot of other stuff fleshed out." Don't worry. I meant out of your head gone, not like leaving the Thread gone. Although I should go to sleep soon... Rebus (prime) looks around with awe. "I assume these dice are part of it - the darkness and light." She's teleported away to go have a mental breakdown, which is probably our fault. You were wondering about if we qualified as deities, earlier. I'd say no, but we are directly responsible for your existence, so... Many Authors are religious, to answer your question earlier. But yeah, having three arguable deities bypass the people intended to serve as their heralds and speak directly to you is not a common occurrence.
  16. Rebus smiles at Afterimage, looking up from reading the Thread archives. “Mine too. He stole the idea of you, except Nullite.” Got it, Bat. Keep in mind that there are always people rooting for you. Bat is receives a mental impression of a salute. Sorry, Tam. We’ll go away in a second. Oh yeah, Bat wants me to put in a good word. I assume you already noticed, but yeah, he’s a good character.
  17. Rebus laughs wryly. “It is interesting. Do you suppose we should wait for the Ennullers to show up, or shall we interact with the orb ourselves? It’s a full-fledged character, judging from the fact I’m being compelled to leave. I’m not going to.” Another male voice speaks to Bat, since everyone else is doing it. I’m Rebus’s Author. You’re a good character - I like your storyline and you feel alive. I don’t really have anything else to say… Anyway, sorry for all the telepathy.
  18. The nanoconstructs back down, and electricity arcs from random objects around the orb instead. Rebus (prime) nods resolutely and steps through the doorway.
  19. “The security system is trying to imprison and/or eject it for destroying things.” The floating orb fries another fog construct, electricity arcing into from the collapsing cloud.
  20. The orb hovers there, more electricity arcing towards it. Rebus keeps looking down at it, but asked. “Can you agree to exempt that thing? It’ll probably Ennull every fog construct out of existence otherwise. And I should likely call the Ennullers.” Indeed I should. But this does work, as far as I understand canon. @xinoehp512
  21. The Intent reaches the Nullite, and the metal collects fully into a sphere. Half the arm ceases to exist as the remainder drops through the floor, leaving a hole. A pulse of ordered darkness destroys the air around it, sucking more nanomachines in. The arm, now an orb of grey metal and magical blackness, stops two floors down. It has Ennulled the gravity and its own trajectory, allowing it to hover in place, and lightning arcs off of it. Security personnel in the form of utility fog clouds have already attempted to detain it, but fry, fall apart, or are wiped from existence as the electricity and ordered darkness make contact with them. Rebus looks down the hole, laughing in shock. “That’s… unexpected.”
  22. Rebus looks thoughtfully at the Nullite-infused arm. “Interesting… I wonder…” He has the nanomachines circulate blood through the arm, making it technically alive. Then, he draws the Nullite mostly to a point. The nanomachines infuse it with Intent, and the Thread pauses, almost as if trying to give Lady Bug a chance to do something before the problems start.
  23. Starfall?! That sounds ominous…
  24. “Interesting… I wonder if we can get another dimension…” Rebus continues following Desolation down the stairs, ready to reenact the final test.
