    Rebus sighs and attacks the gargoyle with his sword. It had fewer weapons than he and Atredies, so it shouldn’t be too hard to beat. Rebus also attempts to determine what kind of rock the gargoyle is made from. @SpiritOfWrath Rebus nods, not sure how that mattered. “Yes… a theoretical Author that could still affect things like powers and lore. I fail to see the issue with Narration.”

    Cole continues to lie on the floor, covered in blood and groaning. It seems nobody has noticed him.

    Rebus scowls and raises an eyebrow at the sky. “I wonder how long this would last if I simply stood here, repeatedly blocking with my supposedly magical shield.”

    Rebus meets the axe with his shield, the impact sending him flying. He stops just as he is about to fall off the bridge, likely through Dark Souls plot convenience. He attempts to throw the now-empty bottle at the creature, unsure if it is within reach of his ordinary weapons. Rebus calls the Ennullers a third time as the room below him implodes. There is a highly untrained Ennuller construct here. I’d like some assistance moving it, given that it has destroyed around a half dozen rooms here already.

    Rebus frowns as the shield straps itself to his arm. “Wow. Who could have guessed that I can’t lose the MacGuffin?” Then he attempts to walk past the gargoyle, testing how railroaded the quest obstacles are.

    Because Rebus otherwise has no free hand to drink his potion, he hurls the shield at the creature like a discus.

    The corner of Rebus’s mouth twitches upwards. Using his supernatural strength, he yanks the shield backwards, catching its rim on the hooked section of the polearm.

    Cole stumbles to his feet. “Felicity? What happened?”

    Rebus brings the shield up, attempting to catch the haft of the halberd. “Why are you attacking us?”

    Yeah, I’m hoping to both give and receive advice, because I expect people to have figured out different things. I think my main problem is procrastination and poor organization - mindless work that I need to do sort of naturally gets ignored in favor of less important but more interesting tasks. Triggering or at least encouraging hyperfocus could be helpful. I’ve tried things like timers and breaks, but implementing the strategies isn’t routine, so after a couple days I simply forget to do the things that had been making me productive.

    Cole groans, sitting up. “What happened?” he asks groggily.

    “That is a truly dangerous blade. I’ve done some thinking, and there are two kinds of Plotblades. One is a characterblade, which gives the wielder specific traits and generally augments them. The other type is a storyblade, which tends to inflict alterations to the struck entity’s role in the story. Lore and Suddenly Pineapples are the only two blades I can think of that do not fit the categories.” “Why do you guard this bridge?” Rebus asks, smiling with his weapons at his sides.

    Cole’s fingers stop inches from the Archstone as he is hit by a pulse of darkness. He falls to the ground in the strange place, and lies there disoriented and in pain.

    Rebus smiles as his internal nanomachines reactivate, then takes up the shield and spins the claymore to reacquaint himself with his skills. “The Plotblades we desire, too, are symbols. Would Savior Complex not take the form of a shield?” Rebus raises an eyebrow at the bridge gargoyle, waiting to see what Atradies will do. @Ookla the Irreplaceable

    Rebus nods, smiling. “I believe so. Either the map is here, or the actual course of Plot.” Rebus raises an eyebrow. “What am I to do with a shield? Claymores are meant to be wielded two-handed, and it ruins the symbolism.”

    Rebus scowls at the Author as every one of his nanomachines go offline. Waving Atriedes to take the shield and grass (@Ookla the Irreplaceable), he picks up the claymore. He smiles somewhat smugly, then swings the claymore to get used to its extra weight, nearly dropping it as he lets go with one hand by instinct.

    Rebus scoff. “That’s not a very helpful or consistent statement. Not only are language and clothing technologies, my body is over twenty percent nanomachines by weight.” He tries to stick his hand into the Nullite fog. During early portion of the explanation, Rebus laughs. “While I must admit, you know much about history, you clearly have little firsthand experience with Narration or actual writing. I am more alive than you would think - otherwise I would be very speedily written out of existence. Of any of my Author’s creations, I am the most emergent; his mental simulation of me causes him to root for me, and makes me have personality and agency.” At the end, though, the mirth recedes. “They made themselves an Author? Why would they want to do that or think it would work?”

    Oh. There are some interesting applications for that... Also Atredies is still there, so you should ping @Ookla the Irreplaceable. And I'm signing off, because I have a swim meet early tomorrow. Leaving behind a pump and some scanners, Rebus sighs and walks over the Nullite fog on a utility fog bridge.

    Rebus promptly sets up a force-field based pump and begins to draw the fog in to harvest the Nullite. He'd need it to fix his office, after all.

I'll work on communicating with the orb while we wait for the Ennullers to show up." @xinoehp512 Rebus uses his teleportation network to bring him and Atredies (@Ookla the Irreplaceable needs pinging) near. He readies all the resources he has, though he's doubts he'll need them, and strides towards the castle, fog of both mundane and nanotech varieties trailing behind him.

    Yeah, that pretty much conclusively sums up my thoughts. I could definitely use some ideas from people who've figured out executive functioning with the aforementioned ADHD - autism paradox.

    Rebus nods. "I suppose so. Everything here is, really." Rebus (prime) nods and accepts more Narrative power from the actual Rebuses. Then, he does as recommended, pouring raw Narration into the conical hole.

    “I believe so. It had some basic processing units, and that seems to have been consolidated and networked. In addition to coordinating the nanomachines, it has enough Intent to qualify as a being and activate Ennuller powers. It also qualifies as a character, judging from the fact every part of me is screaming to leave and not interfere, though I haven’t interacted with any environmental hazards from my Author.”

    Rebus shrugs, then jumps as an especially loud electric crackle is emitted by the orb. “Well, yes. Shall we go try to speak with it?”
