Well, I’ve got a 12 Jupiter planet, a 0.8 Jupiter planet, and a moderately sized nebula, so… Laykium star will be odd. Though it does defeat the point of Layke’s efforts - efficiency. I’ve been thinking a number of things. God metal properties can change, and I think it’s on brand for Invention’s metal to be useful for inventing things (and hence have at least one more property or interaction), but at the moment Laykium will try to organize itself into patterns based on the things around it. Maybe we should take this to the magic thread.

Huh. Layke may do more stellar modifications and either add mass for a new star or take some out to make some smaller planets. Either a bigger star, an explosion, or both.

Full Cosmere Restarted RP: PHASE 2
Through the Living Heir replied to KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren's topic in Roleplaying
Layke noted the already existing planets - perhaps they would be useful in the future. His planet and his system would need names invented for them; that Layke could do to pacify the power. Layke felt the briefest unnerve - a shivering in the futures he would create life. Perhaps he should simply never do so - it would eliminate so much uncertainty. Try things. Solve problems. Layke acknowledged the urging of his power, but refused this particular act. Instead, he studied his system and his capabilities, thinking out his next action. It would not be the creation of life, though - he knew that much.- 521 replies

Nice, thank you! That’s a big planet… (honestly might consider it a small brown dwarf) I don’t think I have decided name yet - I shall stew on it and maybe resort to some sort of generator.

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
Through the Living Heir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
“You are the one who shall act at the moment. That man there is listening to music using the public utility fog network. I have access to that - most people can’t access or hear other’s music unless that person wants them to - and I know that the next song is one he’s danced frequently in private or with friends. If the people around him happen to seem friendly, he might do a little dancing on his own. That person there is a dance instructor and has just decided to drink a little extra coffee this morning - if they’re nearby, they’re feeling energetic enough that that would join in. That guy there is bored and looking for something to do - his soccer game fell apart because a few people decided not to come. There are more people around, who’ll dance because it’s something to do, because everyone else is doing it, because they want to show off their moves, or because they want to try without magic what you are about to do.” Rebus smiled. “None of these people would dance unprompted. It’s the combination of people and factors that might do this; feedback loops that you now can tweak as you see fit. A Narrator could write a flash mob into being - you can now bring one about naturally, simply by tweaking the many factors that go into timing and amplifying the effect people have on each other’s willingness to do something.” “Excellent.” Rebus grinned. “I knew from when I first heard of you that you showed promise as a leader.” Whan shivered, the cloud of blackness they caused expanding. I don’t know what that is, but it sounds scary.” Rebus would have joined in, but he was too worried about Symbol and what Fate would request of him. Unable to find his compass, Bat pulled out the teleporter from Rebus. “I’ll come back, once I find her - don’t worry.” Then he disappeared, beginning his unknowingly futile search. If Rebus had his way, you’d be fully working for him at this point - this will likely not occur. Have fun, by the way. Rebus smiled. “That is a talent I can use… Tell you what - if you bring me any papers you find with somehow incomprehensible writing, I’ll pay you with one or more favors totaling to the approximate amount of effort you spent. You don’t have to bring me the original copy, as long as the writing is equivalent - if there is anything else you think I might be interested in, bring it and I shall work out payment with you.”- 111828 replies

Full Cosmere Restarted RP: PHASE 2
Through the Living Heir replied to KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren's topic in Roleplaying
Try things. Solve problems. Urged the power that Layke now possessed. There were not any problems besides the other shards - and Layke would not be meddling in that. Instead, he resigned himself to action and made his first true creation as a Shard. He knew, somehow, that his power could also be expressed as a metal; a metal that some would likely call Laykium. And Invention was a special Shard - construction and adaption were core tenets of the power. And so, after careful thought, Layke reached out with his power and lightly brushed a portion of the dust cloud that engulfed his system. Laykium collected on the dust. This would not be the last use of the metal - for Layke could already see all the metals, and this one especially, could change over time and be used in more than one way - but it would be the first. Over what a mortal would consider a significant portion of a lifetime, the Laykium dust began to move together, bringing the other dust with it. As the Laykium collected together, it slowed relative to the binary stars, then stopped. It fully ceased to move next to the ordinary one - directly in line with, and the exact distance of, the white dwarf. There it remained, spinning on its axis but remaining nearly unchanging in its orbit - a perfect positional mirror of the white dwarf across from it. Ordinary dust in the obit continued to move, colliding with or being caught by the gravity of the gradually expanding cloud. In time, this cloud collected enough dust to begin collapsing and rounding. Layke now had a planet to call his own.- 521 replies

Rebus smiled at the man - Rebus’s clones were easy to find, for there were many. “Of course! You may recruit into your own staff freely - if you suspect another position would be fruitful, you can certainly send a prospective recruit to me. I’ll need warriors - who will of course receive various technology and training - as well as various management domestically.”- 111828 replies

Yay! I’ll be really inactive for pretty much the rest of the summer (for the next four weeks or so, I’m at camp and get my phone for an hour every couple days, and then I have some other stuff that will take up my time) but I’m excited for this regardless. I can join an inactive party - depending upon my notification status I might need a PM to realize it has started.

I guess I’ll just do italics… Scared. And lonely. Rebus nodded at her, then sat back and enjoyed not freezing to death. Rebus thought that was fine - Heir was at camp and hence could use fewer conversations to do. Bat eyed the firefly suspiciously. “We have to find her, then.” Me too, honestly. Rebus opened a portal into a crowded square in a utopian metropolis. “Good, on both counts. It wouldn’t do for me to destroy my own plotline without the risk of you losing yours. You may suggest which side of those stakes shall be balanced.” “There are plenty of things I want citizens for. The particular use you shall be of has not fully been determined.” Rebus smiled at the slug. “If you want training, I can arrange it.” Rebus felt he should remind Bacon that he had antiteleportation fields covering the area. Invisibility, though, would work briefly, as would disintegrating a copy. (He could also see in all directions through his utility fog, so distractions would not work so well.) I hope you understand I can acquire the page elsewhere. I do not want to have to acquire it from outside the Thread, but I will. And that copy comes with a translation…- 111828 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)

I’m not actually sure if whoever this is can actually speak to Whan. Eh, who cares about thousand-page-old canon (it’s not yours, but it’s also not mine). Hi? Whan’s darkness pulsed briefly out of startlement. Oh yeah, and a particular Author who should go to sleep forgot to mention Whan was leaving behind a trail of darkness (though it’s not nearly as large as the aura of darkness).- 111828 replies

When I am tired, I am known to ramble. It helps me get my homework done, though it does not help my sleep schedule. (Note-I should really be in bed now ) *looks back at character sheet* wow, I didn’t actually realize I had written quite that much. Sorry @Argenti for the time you’ll have to take to read it.

Rebus held out a hand. “It’s nice to meet you - I’m Rebus.” Rebus nodded thoughtfully. Bat frowned. “Why did I come here, then? Is she alright? Did I leave her somewhere?” “She’s gone missing,” Rebus said. Bat rounded on him. “What? She can’t be missing - did I abandon her? We have to find her!” How has my performance as Bat been so far? I think I’m going a bit over the top; I might look back a little further to reread when he’s a little more sedate. “They have good reason to avoid my jurisdiction, given my history with them. And they might join the revolution against me as soon as there is enough of one to find.” Wouldn’t that be something - though actually, they’d probably want to be paid, so it’s not all that out of character. Whan’s darkness expanded a bit from residual nervousness.- 111828 replies

“How should I know? - I’m a guy in a tent trying to follow the advice of a webcomic author and make bricks.” I sigh and ask if you know of any nearby riverbeds. “How are you rebelling?” I ask, nervously getting between you and my preliminary instant noodle supply.

In my defense, it was midnight. That should say that Rebus looked at him. I suppose you didn’t. A fairly large area of darkness darted over to the portal, having been abandoned once again. Whan - who was of course the source of the darkness - looked around. Rebus smiled, putting a few more sticks on the fire. “That’s good, then. Have I introduced myself?” Rebus nodded at him. “You have done much for me - I should be thanking you.” “Me too,” he said, looking around. Then he frowned, suddenly distressed. “Where’s Tam?” Rebus sighed. “A good chunk of the Machination went into hiding - they have antiteleportation devices, and have actually concealed a number of planets.” Mostly… “Many things, likely some of which I haven’t discovered. It can create coincidences - most of which so far have been the failure of my equipment, but you should be able to direct it - as well as control other forms of emergence. Strengthening bonds and facilitating interactions between things seem to be the most useful application.” Rebus chuckled. “I did do that - what were you expecting? Whom are you intending me to relinquish Antagonist to, should you win? For I did earn it - both me and my Auther have spent time for it; Bat’s death was in part so I could have it. A containment system I don’t particularly need unless the plague travels through space and a redundant material I don’t know how to use is not a significant prize in the face of giving up all I’ve worked for.” “I need citizens, bureaucrats and administrators, more eclectic sources of payment or resources, and plenty of other things.” “That could be true, given your memory loss, but I doubt it. You should know I never break my promises, Bacon.” Rebus looked down at the creature, a faint smile on his face. “That’s the point, little one. I carved out my conscience, and earlier than that my restlessness and pettiness, for a reason. A normal mind would not be able to do what I can and stay intact.”- 111828 replies

Hi everybody! I’m back from various things I had to do today, but tomorrow I’m leaving for camp. I believe I’ll be on occasionally, but my activity should decrease to about today’s level (one brief period to address anything), and I’ll stop posting at what for me is fairly late at night.

After a few moments, Rebus got the tinder to light and soon had a decent fire going. “We can stay here until we dry off, attempt smoke signaling, and then assemble a snow shelter so we can sleep without freezing to death.” “Those crystals are Pnumite - they interact oddly with air. The feeling is a lot like that of swimming; they allow pushing against air more than would otherwise work.” Bat hugged him back, not really sure what was happening. He has his memories, mostly, but since the recent ones were missing he was beginning to suspect he had been hit on the head or something. “Yes. The leader was a girl, though as I said she still has a theoretical obligation to kill you - your track record is already bad, and nobody you asked has had power armor yet.” Rebus at him, wondering why he was there. It was almost midnight, though, so Heir didn’t have anything for him to say. Haha! My plan worked; you admitted it! (I had no such plan, and I guess you didn’t) Do you want me to think of something to say to evasiveness, or get a character to talk to whomever it is? Not sure, actually. Perhaps there is fear it will go back to randomness, or perhaps it would drastically alter something to suddenly count so many posts. Or maybe it’s as simple as nobody having asked. Note: I shall finish the character sheet I mentioned in the morning.- 111828 replies

“Good. You accept the terms, in total, with a loss being considered forfeit or the inability to recover or maintain a functioning physical body without assistance from another being, excluding the routine depiction of actions by the Authors and the supply of power to abilities and items we possess? I believe Parasite is sentient, and similar accusations could be made about my technology and magic - these do not qualify as outside assistance, nor should - unless you wish to deny it - the generation of power for your magic and my devices. There should be no bounds as to location, and the clauses I’ve laid out only specify that outside assistance cannot reverse a loss, though I wish to add that other people attacking a champion directly is not to be counted.” Rebus’s armor powered up, glowing purple at the seams, then went dark as he decided cosmetics would be a distraction. His face could not be seen, though that might change as he probed for physiological advantages. “Once the Scribe agrees to the terms, we shall begin.”- 111828 replies

Layke arrived. His star had not been as he expected - the system was filled with a cloud of various elements, and there were in fact two stars; one much like Yolen’s and one an inactive yet white-hot ball of what Layke recognized as oxygen and carbon. Still, it wasn’t as though a shard needed somewhere to stand; Layke placed himself within the star system as a whole, and thought.- 521 replies

It was a weird feeling, having a machine inside her, absorbing Narration she sent into it. This is Chaotic Order - it manipulates emergence, usually interesting interactions between parts of things. It can cause coincidences, allow magics and skills to combine in ways they wouldn’t, and boost bonds and interactions up to Narration levels of power. The material and magic users don’t have cool names, yet, though. Tam has not been gone 1000 pages, unless there has been something strange happening. It makes sense. Rebus assembled a body on a deserted planet he was converting to nanomachines. “This clone shall be considered my champion for this challenge.” “Nanomachines are very small tools that function on their own - there are many types, and they can do nearly anything.” He waved his hands around, and piles of treasure, tables of food, several people, and a house appeared. “I’m sure you can see the benefits.” It would, because in order for it do be used for anything it must be unfrozen, but this does slow down the cost when unused to an incredible degree. Rebus would have been a little surprised by the realization, but Heir was pretty sure his Thread Perception had been taken away again. Once Keys had finished setting up the fire, Rebus began to strike sparks at it. Rebus nodded. “It is only fair - we shall see if you get use out of them, for they are magic.” Bat frowned. “Nothing - I just woke up here. What’s wrong?” “They’re still technically supposed to be looking for you, actually, but they stopped trying once it stopped looking like they’d be paid.”- 111828 replies
