  1. Alvar nods curtly, trying to appear disinterested and failing. He recognizes a few of the adventurers, or at least he thinks he does. He makes sure it doesn’t distract him, though. He has to prove himself! Alvar sits in a different chair, with similar benefits, trying to possess as much different vision range as possible while still seeing the other adventurers and Igeni. He says “good choice” under his breath as he passes Lusha.
  2. I think I know the problem. Conjoined and reversed fabrials behave like they are connected by intangible structures and pulleys, respectively. A wheel with a rope and pulley attached to it at opposite sides will not accelerate indefinitely, thus, neither will the amethysts. (Determining this took me a long car ride several weeks ago, when I came up with it independently.)
  3. “It was me. But let’s try the bug thing first; cheating is always preferable to potentially falling off a cliff.” Dray looks through his bag for the grasshopper.
  4. That looks fine to me. I’m not sure if you’re aware, but somebody else also has a character whose birthday is a few days after the reaping. That’s fine, but if you want to change that, you can.
  5. “Scatter!” calls Nick, hoping to prevent anyone from getting hit. He waits a little longer than he probably should, hoping to catch any rocks in case they don’t get out fast enough.
  6. “Good. I’ve never eaten anything like them. They have so much texture; how are they made?” Veer has forgone syrup, potentially because of the people below them and potentially because he simply didn’t know it was a thing.
  7. “Our lives are more valuable than some semi-sapient birds. Don’t kill them if they’re leaving, though.” Nick looks around for weapons and comes up with a rock. If only he’d had more time to synthesize hydrogen.
  8. Looks good to me. The sensing aviar is not like Sak. It is to seekers as shielding aviar are to smokers.
  9. “If we fall off that cliff, we die for sure. What happened to the map?”
  10. "I've ignored my first impression before, and it didn't go well. Prove to me that people won't stab me in the back, and maybe I'll stop adventuring alone." Alvar sheaths his dagger and follows.
  11. "We put someone in the bag and see what happens. One of my old D&D parties exploited extradimensional spaces so much; we'd all go in a bag of holding, then the monk would wall run us past any obstacles."
  12. Alvar switches from a I’m-scary-don’t-mess-with-me sneer to one that shows genuine anger. “Sometimes people have to actually work for their training, you know.” He’s actually baring his teeth, and you can see that he’s somehow got two sets of canines, one in front of the other. Some of his teeth are bleeding. “You’re both hypocrites. One of you is rich enough to not even need the job, and the other’s first response is ‘oh, my dad is good at fighting, so so am I.’”
  13. Nick follows his gaze. “They might be smart enough for that; Avians are more likely to be sapient. I suppose we should just keep walking, and just pay attention.”
  14. “I’ll do it, I guess, but first I’d like someone to try an idea I had.”
  15. Nick, at the bottom of the switchback, jumps into the air. Water falls from his wings, giving him lift, then little flares of light appear at the edges of the wing struts, jetting him forward. Then, he swoops over to the switchback, landing with the rest of the group. “Nobody get carried off. We should be able to simply scare these things away.”
  16. Veer gets to the cafeteria, and musters the control to place things he levitates back where they were. He floats himself a chair, eating his leftover waffles in the air with Gemini.
  17. “Yeah. For quite a while, I didn’t get more than a glimpse of the new planets outside.” He chuckles. “One time, I actually hacked myself permission to use a xenosuit so I could go out and explore on my own. I don’t know what I was thinking; I almost died so many times.”
  18. “I don’t want anyone falling off that cliff. We’ll want a rope.”
  19. Dray yanks at one of the roots, trying to see if it’d hold his weight.
  20. “I doubt they’ll give it to you if you need it - rich people don’t generally care if you need the money. They just care about reputation, and the people with the reputation are pretty much set. Usually, at least. You could go see if I missed any drakes if they kick you out. They have a decent bounty, if you’re fine with going through all these stupid half flooded tunnels.” Alvar hands over a flyer anyway, though. Maybe the guy could help him. Not that he needed it, of course.
  21. “It was exciting, I suppose. But when you see a new planet every three months, wonder and newness starts to feel mundane. Now that I think about it, that’s not a very good mindset to have.” Nick jumps over a switchback, spreading his wings and ending up around twenty feet below the others, completing a minute or two of walking in seconds.
  22. “We could try to move the rocks.” Dray looks around for a stable anchor he can tie a rope around.
  23. “I don’t need to care what you think. We’ll see who’s actually competent during the auditions.” Alvar attempts to loom over him, but fails because he’s shorter than a full blooded elf.
  24. Alvar considers explaining that he’d meant the whole group, but decides against it. The trial is about to start, anyway.
