    Rebus nodded, taking his hand off the chisel so a hydraulic press can replace it. "It would, but I do not wish to accidentally activate the orb."

    Hmm. Now that I think about it, Rebus should have a lot more trauma. He comes alive when I think about him, but unless I actually post he’s unable to do anything that matters. And he knows about the time I’m not thinking about him, too, which is in some ways worse.

    Rebus tossed it over his shoulder, had it disassembled before it hits the ground, and assembled a new chisel with a diamond blade. It’d break pretty fast, but diamond was hard, sharp, and easy to put back together.

    He blushed harder. “No… I’m just not very good at talking to people.” “Alright. Chaos and instability don’t always relate, after all. Order tends to involve a keystone, whereas chaos is distributed and can survive losses.” He assembled a hammer and chisel, and brought it down on the sphere, which simply rotated in its divot. He secured it with adhesive programmable matter, then repeated the chisel strike.

    Everet looked down at his feet. “…embarrassment or shyness, usually.” “We don’t need to worry about durability; I can probably portal cut it if all else fails. The issue is volatility.”

    “Um… no - wait- actually yes,” he stammered. “We do - that’s a sunburn. But blushing is different.” Rebus is standing off to the side, teleporting cars around the two of them, who are in the middle of the road.

    Hmm. I suppose I am as well, then. Maybe there’s something to be said for the trauma route; Rebus’s questions on secondary motives are legitimately still unanswered.

    Everet looked worried. “What do you mean? Wait - am I blushing?” He then blushed harder. The sphere managed not to Ennull the hand, but it still has an immense positive charge and is continually absorbing electrons. It would have acted like a strong acid if touched by someone mundane, but perhaps Ennullers can avoid such things. “You can detect your soul? I really have been doing this with one hand tied behind my back, haven’t I?” Rebus furrowed his brow. “The sphere is shut down completely, then. I’m still not sure how that’s possible, but I want to try something with it and I can’t risk accidentally altering the entire sample. How likely would chipping a piece off of it be to destroy it, do you think?”

    He shook the hand, blushing a bit. “It’s nice to meet you too.”

    Uh, oh, names. “I’m Everit.” The person said, somewhat shyly.

    He tries. The random person began to walk away, having things to do.

    Rebus nodded, thoughtful. “You’re made of Narritive energy without giving it off. So it isn’t completely impossible, just strange that it’s been drained of Narration without being destroyed. I’m inclined to blame Ennullers.” Bat - Rebus wanted to use the trustworthy Nullite as a sample after hearing about Rose’s tattoos.

    “You wouldn’t want anything there anyway. It never went anywhere, so there aren’t really any significant occupants.” Rebus leaned forwards, peering at the hologram. “The structure is different, of course. The order/chaos differentiates it, and the Nullite is a lot more refined than the dream crystal.”

    Rebus raised an eyebrow. “If you need a security system, I suppose I can help you with that.” Rebus thought, intrigued. “It’s devoid of power? You’re right, that is impossible. I wonder if we could refill it somehow - use it to syphon power or even store it.” He walked over to the wall, pressing his to it. The wall unfolded, revealing a decently sized piece of Nullite. “Let’s run these tests.”

    "That would be simple, considering I was the one who built the security system." Rebus blinked again. "Oh. Interesting... That actually plays in to one of the axes I was trying to find - the Nullite used for those tattoos is typically inactive as well." He carefully cuts off the flow of power into him, in case inactivation is contagious. "Imagine if we could turn it on and off at will." Rebus chuckled. "Us both, defeated? I find that unlikely... and yes, defeated villains simply fade from relevance. I'd like to avoid such a fate."

    Rebus blinked. "It was at some point, but I think Lore may have invalidated the process. The aforementioned reality-rending explosion means that trying it in the real world is probably a bad idea. But if that isn't Balancium, what is it?" "That is helpful, though not particularly humble, advice." Rebus steepled his fingers, leaning back in his chair. "As you say, upon being defeated a villain is forgotten..." I'm going to sleep and I'll come up with something to say to Soliel in the morning. "I would hope so, considering I have personality, practice, Narration, and a Plotblade contributing. As I told Malevolence, though, I'm not sure what to do with it."

    "I guess skyscrapers are pretty impressive." Rebus smiles. "Charisma is something to strive for." Rebus nodded, similarly awed. "It is nigh-impossible. In the vision I mention, the two of us tried to make Balancium. The resulting explosion tore a hole to the Void." "Is it? My goal is to do interesting things and be remembered. I need to actually select an interesting, memorable thing to focus on, or I won't succeed."

    "Yes, though Bat was abroad when his tattoos began to malfunction." Rebus leaned forward, eyes wide. He recognized that metal, from what the Dreamsmith had shown him. "I think I have a guess as well..." "I know how to achieve my goals, I'd say. Selecting them is harder, however." "Normal? I've never lived anywhere else." "Do you have any input on villainous or benign goals to strive for?"

    The person blinked at her, confused. "I do... Are you a tourist or something?" That's understandable. "Yes, but a tautological end leaves you spinning in circles if you ever succeed." "I did. I was trying to troubleshoot the failure of some Nullite tattoos, and I accidentally triggered the Nullite on my test volunteer. I wonder what happened to that man..." "I didn't say I wasn't guilty of the same failing. Because I am - I have a long term goal and sort term goals, but no aim to connect them."

    "Alright." Rebus took her hand again, letting up on the antigravity so he can smoothly pull the two of them back down. Is Ruia just watching Rebus and Malevolence argue? Rebus nodded slowly. "I see. Ambition is good, I suppose, even if only one person can be the supreme overlord of the Thread. Ambition and acquisition of power for the sake of ambition and acquisition of power, though, is a pointless game even I have strayed into on occasion."

    Rebus met his gaze, his orange eyes twisting reflections in not-entirely-natural ways. There’s no hate in his eyes, only amusement and sadness. “That is pretty respectable, actually. I don’t love step two, considering that I too want to follow my own desires, but even if you do succeed it will be interesting. After all, taking down the ruler of the universe is a pretty good legacy.” He chuckles. “I’m also legitimately interested in hearing what the Thread shaped in your image would look like. It’s infinite, so you could effectively rule the world without bothering anybody.” All he needs now is a magic carpet. *bursts into song* “Do you want to go down and meet some of those people, or up to see even more of the world at once? Or I suppose we could stay here.”

    Rebus raised an eyebrow. “What motivation do you have? Be good at being evil because I was told to?” Rebus steepled his fingers, nodding along. “I didn’t even consider density, though I suppose that makes sense. My harvesting process is rather questionable - I think Luxite would improve it significantly. And a Narrator cores being conduits for power is something I should consider as well… What I’m trying to do is find and alter between other qualities of fundamental power, besides light/dark and order/chaos.” Rebus nods. “There are. And this is only one city, albeit a large one.”

    “You haven’t seen anything yet.” Rebus takes her by the hand and pulling her through the portal and into the sky. The city sprawls below them, thousands of streets like the one she’d been gawking at laid out below them.

    It leads into a big city, either modern or slightly futuristic. There are tons of people bustling around, mostly modern-day humans but - because this is TLT - there are some more magical people about.

    Rebus opened a portal to the nearest metropolis. It wasn’t how he usually teleported, but he thought it might be less abrupt. Rebus looks slightly disappointed he cannot continue being evasive. “I want to do interesting things, have a legacy, stay alive, that sort of thing. I’ll leave the logical leaps towards my motive as an exercise for those who’ve already had their identity crises.” “I do, yes. I want to hear what you have so far, though I suppose we can set up something time-consuming first.”
