The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
DragonHeir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I think so. The one from BftS. “Unfortunately, at the moment he seems to be outside the Thread.” Rebus smiled. “I doubt you can create Nullite, and even if you could you’d soon find your core destroyed by the reaction.” Rebus then slammed into her with a wave of utility fog, beginning to take over the nanomachines she had summoned. It was one of the useful things about liking one’s mind to technology.- 111859 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
DragonHeir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Thank you. This is one of the reasons Rebus is so friendly all the time - it makes it all the more frightening as he does something like this. Rebus smiled - he could do things with Betrayal. “I understand,” he said, referring to both. Rebus took the moving floor calmly, not breaking stride - he had trained for such things, and had it been combat he could have used the movement his advantage. The giggle was interesting - Madness, perhaps. Rebus might be able to see in the darkness - he’s kind of an out-of-context problem for the trials (which are really fun lore, by the way). Yeah, but unless the fictional character is going into actual real life, Sandy will be either in a thread, or offscreen. The Thread contains everything written here. If Alpha Centauri is canon, then Earth is canon, and hence we might be canon. Rebus, initially surprised by the violent reaction, clarified that he meant the planet being in his possession, not the character. *sad noises* Rebus brought physics to a slightly more realistic level, and the antimatter beam blew up in an impressive explosion upon contact with the air. Although even Rebus would be grievously injured by an antimatter explosion, the armor, darkness emitted by the Chaotic Order reaction, and Rebus’s normal nanotechnology were enough to leave him alive. His armor glowed white hot in places as his flesh (if it could be called that) knit back together. Reconsidering slightly, if it was actually an anti-matter beam, Rebus instead used portals to redirect it at Eon and continue the destruction of the air. Rebus was unperturbed by that, and unsure what Cep expected to gain. Rebus appeared, smiling. “Travel between realms? The only way I know about involves directly influencing the Authors to write you somewhere else, though Sandy seems to have another method.” Rebus smiled slightly. “I really was worried. I’m sorry I did it, though.” Rebus, liking awesome things, made sure to commit some of the more complete designs to memory.- 111859 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
DragonHeir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Rebus grinned at the new information. “Ordinary I would like you. I still might hire you.” Utility fog began to pry to armor off of the man, seeping between the gaps then yanking with strength to buckle any ordinary metal. “But for the time being, I wish to speak to the Lord of Darkness. I know you are the only way to get there, but I can also gouge out your brain and make it take me there without the rest of you following. I would advise compliance.” By this point, Rebus had much the same kind smile on his face as the other man had started this. He was perfectly calm and cheerful, like this was a common, polite interaction. Sandy can’t leave the Thread while remaining in this thread - the Thread expends to contain anything within the thread. Rereading, if Trisolaris is in BftS, it does work. I think moving between metafictional dimensions might take a few more degrees of freedom than string theory, but that’s all. He could do this on his own - the nanites can build teleporters and self-replicate (Rebus would still notice and could block it unless Asharak somehow hacked the nanites, but Asharak can do it). Rebus nodded. “That you shall have - several days of it till I next exist.” Rebus, since he had been going around conquering planets, decided to propose this one being in his possession. He knew the relevant Author could already read the thought, and could answer some questions about the implications if that was needed. I saw it, but I may not have responded. “As long as you honor the spirit of the agreement, that is a deal.” Rebus did not think it would be necessary to pursue this person - he would need someone to fight, after all.- 111859 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)

Alright, thanks. Rebus smiled, his viciously pointed crown glowing with darkness. “Exactly what it sounds like, more or less. It is a Plotblade - a symbol of my status of archvillain of the Thread.” In another time, supposedly, Rebus watched Sandy believe he was leaving. This was false, though Rebus did admire the use of fairly legitimate physics. Unfortunately for Sandy, much less legitimate physics reigned here - metaphysical and metafictional concepts held immense sway. Rebus nodded, searching for the specified man. He already had light sources, medical nanomachines, and weaponry precise enough it would serve as insecticide. As for Rebus’s resolve and wits, those were always his primary assets. Thank you for your assistance. “I possess them already - I will need to find a different Plotblade to alloy in.” Rebus looked off into the distance. “This can be your test - there are a number of Plotblades that could suffice.”- 111859 replies

Will’s card houses got more and more elaborate as he built them up and knocked them down. Only someone who examined it layer by layer would realize that the last one - the one he examined closely before toppling - represented the projected layout of the facility.

That was good - maybe over time, they’d trust him enough to let him walk around alone. Once he got to his room, Will read through the encyclopedia he had previously requested. Once he was done, he built a card house several stories up, then pulled out one crucial card, making it crumble.

Will did a mock salute and left, leading the way to his room - assuming the guard let him.

Speaking of which, do you know if that’s still happening? (Rebus was interfering there, too) Rebus nodded to Sandy, though for once he lacked much of the knowledge and preparation he’d been accustomed to. “Welcome to the Thread, Sanadanas. I am the ruler of much of it, and the holder of Antagonist. My name is Rebus.” That’s really cool, actually - both I and Rebus will investigate further, eventually. “Conquest is what I plan to reforge it as - a crusade feels less directed, less permanent, and hence less useful for the purposes I want to work towards. I will need a few pieces more, but I suspect I can procure them.” He can read the Thread - literally anything here he can know about. If you want me to wait, I can - once the crossover begins in earnest, though, Rebus is definitely getting involved. “And that you are astounded means I have the upper hand - arrogance and confidence are similar, but not the same.” Rebus reached out with a gauntlet aflame with Chaotic Order, though he did not stop attempting to get rid of the air around them. Rebus looked a little sheepish. “You were in pain and I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t see any other option, and I planned to find you as soon as I could.” Rebus frowned, realizing he had still dealt quite an emotional blow. It wasn’t too important, though - brilliant as the man was, Rebus didn’t need him at this stage. He wandered around the room, investigating various half-built devices. Rebus went to the place the rebel gods were, planning to fight them. Hence, I need a description of it. A Narrator is a being of Chaotic Order - creativity and creation, unchecked and wild. They can do almost anything (including break the fourth wall) and can only be countered by beings or objects of similar power (there’s more lore, but that should be sufficient for this). But yes, Asharak, not being a Narrator, could exit the Thread without punishment.- 111859 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
DragonHeir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Alright - then it’s normal BftS stuff (so utterly overpowered chaos, with a dash of continuity - much like TLT of old). This will be fun… Narrators and maybe others can’t leave the Thread without being hunted down by Ennullers, I shall note. “I am no longer a stranger to darkness.” Rebus stayed where he was, but a cloud of utility fog left to reach this place. It moved with impressive speed, teleporting in more utility fog to telescope forwards. Rebus arrived at the boundary of the darkness, reforming his body out of the utility fog.- 111859 replies

The mistcorn, now reaching incredible levels of power, begin to plot with their future knowledge. I, meanwhile, am oblivious.

“I think I shall use a weapon fundamentally of Chaos for this task - emergence is something I am well familiar with, and bringing Order using Chaos… I like the idea.” Rebus floated slightly into the air, mostly for intimidation purposes - he was showing his readiness, visually representing his preparation that would otherwise go unseen. “Now then; where can they be found?” *evil laugh* but seriously, I do need someone to tell me more. There seems to have been some BFtS developments I have not heard about.- 111859 replies

I like worldbuilding as well, especially speculative bio and technology. I’m at camp, but when I return I shall certainly join in earnest.

Cursed Treasure, honestly not knowing what is happening, felt a combination of honored and bewildered. Rebus, on the other hand, grinned very wide. “A crossover, you say? Tell me more.”- 111859 replies

You’re right, I suppose - there are enough Bondsmiths and Elantrians that they could die pretty easily. Still more steps to kill them than a normal person.

“You do?” Will asked, surprised. He had thought that would be language-and-knowledge-based, but perhaps the scientist had deemed it not to qualify. “May I meet the subject, if the test is functional?” Then he smiled, suddenly excited. “How reproducible are my modifications? If a number of people like me could memorize information and then share the knowledge at incredible speeds, we could have the greatest think tank ever seen.”
-
“That makes sense, though I don’t see exactly how it applies. Telepathy was my next proposition, if that is less broad.”

“Excellent,” said Rebus, smiling in a combination of legitimate happiness and evil mastermind smugness. “If you explain what is needed, I can provide aid.” Rebus grinned, glad to hear this. “I should return to my preparations, then.” Rebus smiled. “That is why I chose it as your potential role. I still have the pieces of Conquest - I plan to reforge it, and should you prove yourself, grant it to you.” Thank you. I’ve never really had a friend before. Yes, I think I would. Rebus took away its essence, leaving the actual sandwich - now dead, ashy, and soulless - where it was. It would be useful, Rebus thought. As for the Lost Page, it could be found other ways. Perhaps Fate would give him something - otherwise, Rebus might need to cheat. This didn’t work quite as well as one would expect - the area wasn’t mist, it was a magical effect that interfered with light, causing darkness indirectly. Should she try to move the magic, though, it worked relatively well - a slightly warm area of darkness that cast a mundane shadow broke off from the rest.- 111859 replies

Will had left his paper behind, but he didn’t really need it. “I think there are a number of already existing experiments that warrant further investigation. The subject who knows all languages, for instance - if that can be generalized to, say, all scientific knowledge, the potential is incredible. Regeneration is the other focus I’ve had - medically, it would be incredible.”

Cursed Treasure’s whimpers stopped, replaced with a feeling of presence that hadn’t really been there before. You saved me! “It seems we are in agreement about many things. Affirmation that you wish to remain autonomous but part of my empire is all that will be needed.” Rebus looked out into the distance, at the greater Thread. “There is less resistance than I had thought.” “That is why I offered them the roles I did. You believe yourself to be stronger - if you have the raw power you claim, I could use a warrior to lead my armies.” He raised an eyebrow, not entirely confident in either Atredies’s power or his trustworthiness. “I would ask you to prove yourself.”- 111859 replies
