Ok, this is slightly sketchy, but I just finished re-listening to the Way of Kings today and was struck by something in the last chapter proper, with Dalinar, Chapter 75. Though this deals with Realmatic theory a bit, it shouldn't be spoiler-ful. Two things struck me as odd here. This sounds very different to anything we have seen before. The figures are smoky, fog-like. My guess is that these apparitions are reflections of objects in the physical realm, and the man could be a wounded officer from the warcamps, dying. This is what the Almighty said to Dalinar, while they were standing together. Where is it that Dalinar has found his way to? From Shallan's chapters, it certainly doesn't seem to be Shadesmar. And yet Dalinar doesn't go anywhere in the physical realm. Therefore the only place he can have made is way to is the Spiritual realm. What do you guys think?

With AoL, we have 10 planned mistborn books 10 planned SA books 2 Warbreaker books 2 Elantris books Liar of Partinel and Dragonsteel White Sands The Silence Divine. That gives 28. What are the other 9 that give 37? In terms of Harmony's metal, I think it makes sense for it to be an alloy of Lerasium and Atium. Brandon has said that, if Sazed wished, he could create Atium and Lerasium on Scadrial. Well, at least it was confirmed for Atium, and so I assume it is the same for Lerasium. If this is the case, it seems odd that, by having two shards, there would be three completely separate god metals. It seems far more likely that this is a metal that is an alloy. BTW would an alloy of half Lerasium and half Atium produce a metal that makes a normal person into a full Feruchemist?

Thanks for pointing that out, have edited it now. I was wondering if the Shardic Influence could refer to Sel; is a Shard still a Shard if it has been Splintered? In which case, there are no Shards on Sel a the time of the book Elantris, but two whole heaps of Shardic influence.

To the admins, I hope this is in the right place I met Brandon today in York, UK. You will soon be able to see a picture on twitter of the cookie I have him. Since I knew it was thanksgiving, it was a thanksgiving-themed cookie. After getting books signed, I asked him a few questions, listed below as best I can remember them. Q. Are there 50 Allomantic Metals? A. "Nearly. Does Harmony have a metal?" Q. Is that an alloy of Lerasium and Atium? A. "You're along the right lines." Q. What is the definition of Investiture? A. "RAFO. Investiture is off the table as far as questions go." Q. You have said before that all the planets had their names before the arrival of the Shards. Is Roshar the planet's name before the Shards arrived? A. "Yes." Q. How do Roshar natives know the name of the Cosmere? A. "RAFO" Q. Is Shallan's memory a Surge? A. "I want to wait for the right opportunity before revealing more surges." Q. You have said previously that the Stormlight archive will include Lightweaving. Is that still the plan? A. "Yes." Q. Have we seen a Roshar native in tWoK who can use Lightweaving? A. "Yes, we have seen someone who has potential." He seemed to be trying to say that they don't know that they can use it. Q. How many Heralds appear in tWoK? A. "More than you might expect. Some have appeared, some have been mentioned but not appeared." Q. Can you tell me something about the Cosmere that you haven't told anyone before? A. "There are inhabited planets in the Cosmere that don't have any Shards there. There may be inhabited planets that only have a Splinter of a Shard. There are 10 Core Cosmere planets, which tell the overarching story of the Cosmere." Q. "Are all the Cosmere books so far set on these 10 core worlds?" A. "Yes" Q. Are there any of the 10 core worlds without a shard? A. "All 10 core worlds have significant Shardic Influence." These last few questions seem particularly important. 10 Core worlds? Sel Scadrial Nalthis Roshar Taladin Yolen (The Liar of Partinel & Dragonsteel) The planet of The Silence Divine That still gives us three more core Shard worlds... DIscuss!

Thanks, this is extremely useful, I missed a few of these!

I've been learning to write and read the Alethi script too, and would love a copy of the font. Might write my notes from a signing with Brandon. Is really fun to write in.

Based on the info thus far, it looks like we have the following. Note that each subset is worth one emerald broam. 1000 diamond chips = 200 diamond marks = 50 diamond broams = 200 garnet chips = 40 garnet marks = 10 garnet broams = 100 ruby chips = 20 ruby marks = 5 ruby broams = 40 sapphire chips = 8 sapphire marks = 2 sapphire broams = 20 emerald chips = 4 emerald marks = 1 emerald broam This only uses half of the gemstones provided in the Ars Arcanum, the other being Smokestone, Zircon, Amethyst, Topaz, and Heliodor. I'm not sure if any of these are actually used in text to refer to money; I can't find any references. Unless there are two different gems of equal value for each value level, I can't see how this is going to be resolved. And if this is the case, why not mention any of the equalitites? EDIT: I have actually found references to other gems, there are references to a Topaz sphere and a Zircon Sphere.

Yes they are called the Temporal Metals for Allomancy, but given that the enhancement metals for allomancy are called the spiritual metals in feruchemy, it seems that Cadmium, Bendalloy, Gold and Electrum will have a different freuchemical name. Anyway none of their feruchemical powers store anything to do with time, so Temporal wouldn't make sense. I agree that Nicrosil and Duralumin will probably steal a spiritual aspect, since iron and tin steal physical human attributes and Zinc and Copper steal mental i.e. Cognitive human attributes. What Bendalloy or Gold would steal I have no idea, I like the stealing of age but that seems to overlap with Feruchemical Atium a lot, and none of the other Hemalurgic properties seem to overlap as nicely.

I've been thinking about Hemalurgy since the Alloy of Law Ars Arcanum was revealed. I have constructed this list Iron - Steals strength Steel - Steals Physical Allomancy Tin - Steals senses Pewter - Steals Physical Feruchemy Zinc - Steals emotional fortitude Brass - Steals Mental Feruchemy Copper - Steals mental fortitude Bronze - Steals Mental Allomancy Chromium - Steals Spiritual Feruchemy Nicrosil - unknown Aluminium - Steals Enhancement Allomancy Duralumin - unknown Cadmium - Steals Temporal Allomancy Bendalloy - unknown Gold Steals - Steals Necessital Feruchemy Electrum - unknown Those marked with a are my suppositions, while denotes generally assumed but not verified. Note that, for lack of a better word, I have called the equivalent of the temporal metals the Necessital Feruchemical metals. . I think this is quite clear. In the basic metals, it is the alloys that steal Feruchemy/Allomancy, but for the higher metals we can see that Aluminium (and Gold) reverse this trend. Therefore it makes sense for Chromium to steal Feruchemy from the same metals as Aluminium steals from, and It makes sense for Cadmium to steal the Allomantic equivalent of the powers that gold steals. Hence this list. Been trying to guess what Nicrosil, Duralumin, Bendalloy and Electrum steal. I reckon Nicrosil will steal something very important, given its new place of importance thanks to Feruchemy. What do people think?

I'm not sure that is necessarily true. If this is a personal memo, then maybe. But if it is part of a larger document written by one person to another, then it fits fine, so long as the recipient is not as knowledgeable in the same field. Personally, I think it is a piece of research done by a seventeenth shard member to another. Or something similar. OR WOK spoiler (I guess that's fair) From Hoid to a seventeenth shard member. Correct me if I'm wrong, but AoL is supposed to be set before the WoK. We don't know how long the seventeenth shard has been trying to stop Hoid. They could be working together at this point. Hoid seems much less interventionist everywhere pre-WoK. Maybe they are on better terms at this point.

1. Yes I'm fairly certain Brandon said something along the lines of "it would be hard, but you could get a magic system working off of that magic's planet" Couldn't find it in a cursory look at the Brandonothology. 6. Here's where Feruchemy seems to be a problem. All of the magics you have mentioned there are "end-positive"; that is, they have a net gain of power. Feruchemy does not; it is hard to see how Feruchemists are tapping into a power of creation when they, in fact, do not gain or lose energy. Other than that I like your theory. I just had a thought; could the making of fabrials be considered an "end-neutral" or even an "end-negative" method of Investiture?

In the final confrontation with the inquisitors just before she goes all god-like on us, Vin pushes and pulls Inquisitor spikes, ostensibly because she is becoming a stronger Allomancer by absorbing the mists. I would say that this suggests that Allomantic strength affects the pushing and pulling of spikes. Do we even have confirmation about any Invested object other than a shard blade? From reading the essay, I am starting to think that Investiture is Shard-INDEPENDENT. Brandon has said (can't remember where) that each shard could power every type of magic, it would just be harder in some cases. I would say that Investiture is a realmatic term that describes magic is some way, since the Metallic Arts are called Scadrial's three prime methods of Investiture. The only time the word is used in an applied context, other than in naming the Metallic Arts, is here Does the use here refer to the Investitures of Hemalurgy? Or, as I think, does it refer to all magic systems; no magic is inherently evil, magic is just a tool. Someone really needs to talk to Brandon about this. The link in the first post will let you read the Ars Arcanum, if you want. However, I would agree it needs to be marked in some way, since it is pre-release info, even if the general theories section isn't allowed spoiler tags as of http://www.17thshard...-to-17th-shard/.

Hemalurgy always seemed like the odd one out, since you don't actually have to use magic to use it; Hemalurgy seems more like a knowledge system than Allomancy or Feruchemy. If a Spiritweb is an aspect of a human on the spiritual plane, then it seems perfectly possible for Hemalurgy to be used by someone not from Scadrial, or stealing a power other than a Metallic Art. I am split over the tone of the final paragraph. When I first read it, thinking the writer was Hoid, it seemed to be be suggesting that Hemalurgy didn't necessarily need to kill, or even harm, in order for there to be a transfer of powers. This doesn't mention killing in any way. But the other interpretation, at least to me, is that the person writing doesn't care that Hemalurgy is deadly. If so, then it sounds like someone who will do whatever it takes to achieve their goal, even if an army of Inquisitor-esque monsters who can use every type of magic is required. Scary. EDIT: Was just looking at the Lord ruler's strength thread, and it got me thinking. Was the lord ruler stronger Allomantically because he was tapping Investiture from a Nicrosil metalmind? Storing Investiture to me sounds like storing Allomantic or Feruchemical Strength. And using the Feruchemy-powered by Allomancy trick, he could have a huge supply of Investiture.

A good thing to add to the Brandon questions list? I might ask him when he is on tour in the UK later this month. This was my thought as well.

That's ok, I'm not sure who would notice other than us. I marked this as spoiler, since one of these metals is probably the Alloy of Law mentioned in the title. Every Cosmere book thus far has a title directly relating to something in world, so I guess the Alloy of law in question is an alloy from the enhancement/spiritual or temporal metals. Anyway, this also reveals the in world proper term for magic! A magic system is a manifestation of investiture. So does

"Anyone burning copper is immune to emotional Allomancy. In addition, copper's influence occurs in a bubble around you. This cloud, called a copper-cloud, hides anyone inside it from the senses of a Seeker, though it won't make them immune to emotional Allomancy, like it will you." - Kelsier, Chapter 7. Sorry, don't have a page reference, it's from my ebook. This does seem to present a contradiction; this must have been tested. An error then? I wonder if the Ars Arcanum is present in the ARC, and if this issue is present there, also.

http://goo.gl/tHQAM That link leads you to the Amazon UK page for the alloy of law. You can "Click to look inside" the book. If you do that, you see the prologue and chapter 1, but also the ars arcanum! It seems to have been written from a Cosmere-conscious point of view...and it is not fully complete. An essay regarding The Metallic arts is is included. This IS pretty mindblowing. A short summary of the most juicy bits. A summary of each feruchemical metal and power. The proper names of each different Ferring. The detailed List of Metals, in text form. The full essay, in text form. EDIT: Have added the full text of the Ars Arcanum.

I would love any and all of these wonders!
