Freya ducked out of the building, looking around. She needed to find another mark, another person to take from. She needed it. She saw Jacin and paused for a moment, then dashed the opposite direction.

He hugged her pulling her head to his chest.

“But broken things can be fixed, Rex. I promise you, I know it seems impossible right now, but it’s true.”

“Who do you think you are then?”

“You’re Rex. A girl who has been through much more than she should have, yet is still a wonderful person. Someone who deserves to be loved.”

He lifted a hand and wiped away her tears. “I think I do.”

“I love who you really are, Rex.”

“I’ve seen who you really are, and I love you.”

“Then… does it matter? I don’t think it would change anything.”

“It’s ok. I doubt they’ll remember much in the morning.”

He didn’t leave, he was determined to stay with her, regardless of what his parents thought.

“I love you too. And you don’t have to be sorry. I’m here for you.”

He stayed there with her.

“I’ll stay close to you then. And we’ll figure out the rest, ok?”

“I will try. Do you have any hints on how to do it?”

“Can I get rid of those doubts?”

“I’m so sorry,” he whispered. “But you are safe here.”

“I promise.”

He felt her shudder. “It’s ok, you’re safe.” He kissed the top of her head.

“Always,” he whispered back.

He rested his head on hers, holding her close.
