“I am. I do need you. I just can’t understand why you are helping me.”

“But they aren’t. You are though.”

Tears sprang to her eyes. “Do you know how many times I’ve tried to find someone who will accept me? Do you know how many times they’ve left me because of what I can do?”

She frowned. “But I do, what makes you say that?”

“I don’t know. Anything. And maybe you can’t give me shelter or food, but I need you and I couldn’t do better.” She beamed back at him.

“Thank you. And no, you’re fine, it was…nice,” she said, failing to find the right words.

“Will you be ok?” She let him, content to be held.

She hoped that he couldn’t see her blush. She wrapped her arms around him, head resting on his chest. ”I just cause pain to those around me. I’ve hurt you before.”

“You aren’t safe with me.”

“Well you can’t stay with me.” “Maybe you’re right. But I still feel bad.”

“But you shouldn’t have to. It’s my problem.”

“Back into town, back to the hospital.”

“Is it ok? I’m so sorry, I need to stop. You’ve already helped me enough.”

“But who am I?” She suddenly seemed on the brink of tears. “Do you remember yesterday?”

“What do you remember?”

“You need to see a healer I think. Something’s wrong.”

“You’re a good person. A truly good one. I don’t think I am.” “Why can’t you remember?”

“I’m Daniel. You seem to have forgotten me.” She blushed. “Well if they got to know you then they’d realize I don’t deserve to be with you,” she fumbled.

“I…we have met Rex. I‘m Daniel, remember?” “Thanks,” she said.

Helda walked out of the store wearing a stunning new outfit and holding a couple more bags. “I think this works, right?”

“Ok, thank you.” She warily let go of his arm, then wobbled into the store. - - - “Do you not remember me?” @Just-A-Stick
