“That’s why we need each other. We can help each other.” Or I’ll help you enough, then leave before that would break you again.
She screamed in agony, knowing what Tayen had become. He was nearly a shade. She cried out, trying to reach him.
He pulled her tight against him. “What if I help you?”
Helda grabbed him, pulling him to her. She merged with him for a moment, reminding him of who he was, of why he was needed, of how he was loved.
“Rex,” Daniel said pleadingly. “I need you. I need you to be strong. I know you are.”
Helda stood in the forest again. She had to find Tayen. He would be in limbo, he should be. But…if she left would she be able to come back? Did it matter? Without Tayen she was nothing. She left her body and entered limbo.
“Don’t say that! Don’t let them control you.”
Helda shuddered, then screamed as Tayen’s head separated from his body. She ran out of the small building, as far and fast as she could.
