  1. “Umm…sure.” Daniel didn’t dream. He rarely did.
  2. He smiled. Reluctantly, he let himself relax, and slowly drifted off. She felt comfortable. She was with Tayen again, he made her feel safe, always. Even after… this.
  3. “I don’t know. We could wait for a time, see if anything changes.”
  4. “Yes. And you won’t be gone, you’ll just be…different.” - - - He ran his hand through her hair, playing with it. @Just-A-Stick
  5. “If he returns, then I don’t think he will be. But I can’t be completely sure.”
  6. Yes “I don’t know. Is it? What do you think about it?” - - - Daniel held her a little tighter against him. @Just-A-Stick
  7. “I…I don’t really know. You might merge with the old him in some way.”
  8. Daniel was concerned, but didn’t wake her. “If his spirit is as resilient as his body, then maybe.”
  9. “That aura, it’s like one that shades have, people who lose themselves in this place and are replaced bit by bit until they become what I call shades. They aren’t human anymore, but you still are.”
  10. “I don’t. It looks like part of you has been replaced, like you’re some sort of half-shade.”
  11. She looked at him. “What’s happening?”
  12. She put her own arms around him.
  13. “You are still him, in a way. Both of you refuse to give up on me.”
  14. Eventually, the shaking slowed. “Th…thank you.”
  15. She was silent, continuing to weep.
  16. “I…I don’t know.”
  17. “I do. I should. No person should have been able to do that.”
  18. “I…I…I want to die. Let me die.”
  19. “Please, stop! You don’t even understand what I’m talking about. I just killed you! It hurt me so much…” she began weeping uncontrollably.
  20. He did not. He felt bad about lying to her, but this was for her own good. He had to be there for her if she needed him, he couldn’t do that asleep. She screamed suddenly. “No! You don’t understand! You can’t! How awful it was!” She sank to the floor, legs collapsing.
  21. Freya entered the den of her captors. “We have our payment.” An old man stood. “Bring it. This will buy you…a week. Bring more before then, or she dies,” he said, pointing to Freya’s sister. @Just-A-Stick
  22. “Of course. Anything for you.”
  23. Freya ran, hiding her tears from her sister. She shouldn’t have gotten attached to him, she’d known it was a mistake. And yet, he was so kind, maybe, somehow, he’d save her. But, of course he wouldn’t, he probably hated her now.
  24. “But…what about what I did?” “I will.”
  25. “Thank you.” She left.
