Daniel smiled, and ran a hand through her hair.

Daniel opened his eyes, not moving, trying not to disturb the wonderful girl next to him.

Daniel waited until she fell asleep before actually allowing himself to.

Daniel’s breathing slowed, becoming rhythmic and strong.

Daniel gently ran a hand through her hair.

He smiled. “I’m glad.”

“I will, as long as you’re here next to me.”

“Always. I will always be here for you.”

He held her close to him, gently rubbing her back, then her arm, then her shoulders.

“Don’t listen to those thoughts, please? I know it seems pointless to keep going, but it isn’t. And I need you here.” He kissed her head.

He held her close to him. “I know what those are like, please, tell me what they are. And don’t listen to them either, they’re wrong.”

“I know how dangerous those can be. Please, tell me.”

“You can tell me, it’s ok.”

He opened his eyes, looking at her. “What is it? I know there’s something.”

“Then I think you should sleep too, as long as you’re ok with it.”

“But you don’t need to make sure I’m asleep, why would I stay awake?”

“Why would you need to make sure I’m asleep?”

“You don’t need to.”

He kissed her back, then pulled her down next to him. “Why don’t you try to sleep too? Unless you’re rested enough.”

“Will you please kiss me then, madam?”

“How about another kiss?”

“Like that’s going to help.”
