Daniel gave her an encouraging smile.

“Jane!” Aaron yelled. He ran as fast as he could towards the footsteps, using the pouch to light his way.

Daniel blushed too, looking down.

Aaron walked in whatever way way was downhill, hoping to find the old path or Jane.

“Alright, we can do that when the nurse comes.”

“Do you think they’ll let us out today?”

Aaron looked around, trying to find any indication of where he’d left Jane. Stupid talents. @Edema Rue

“It’s ok, it’s hard being cooped up so long.”

“Is it not?”

“That’s good.”

“Yeah, me too. How’s your hand feeling?”

“That’s good.”

“Is something wrong?”

“I think I’d like all of you, but I like the real you best.”

He smiled back. “I don’t want you to ever think you have to try to be someone else around me.”

“You can survive this, I know you can,” Aaron said, turning to look at her. He only saw an empty tunnel. “Jane? Where’d you go?”

“Me too. I wish there was a way we could both survive this.”

“You don’t need to.”

“Thank you, for being who you are,” he said, wrapping his own arms around her.

Aaron was silent for a moment. “I think you should win. You seem like a good person, you do deserve it, as much or more than anyone else.” He didn’t mention her sister, he didn’t know what to say about that.

“I’m really sorry about your sister,” he said solemnly. “I don’t have anyone…that’s why you have to be the one to win.”

“Who do you have, back at home, waiting for you?” Aaron asked, trying to make conversation.

“I don’t know if you can.” he whispered.

“Because I don’t think, in the end, my being here will be good for you. I don’t, can’t, make people happier, not for long.”

Aaron offered the bottle to Jane. “Drink, you need to stay hydrated as much as possible.” He opened the pack all the way, shedding as much light as possible. “Let’s go.” @Lotus Blossom
