  2. I do not exactly understand how Compounding works when you are a Twinborn. I used to think I understood, but now I am thoroughly confused. I used to think that Compounding stored basically Allomantic charge into a Feruchemical metalmind. For example, a pewter/pewter Twinborn would raise his strength by burning pewter but instead of getting stronger the Twinborn would simply store that extra strength into the pewter metalmind for later. However, we see from Miles Dagouter that this is not the case. He is a gold/gold Twinborn and uses this to heal dramatically faster than an average gold Feruchemist. Unlike a pewter/pewter Twinborn, you can ferochemically store healing in gold, but allomancitally burning gold has nothing to do with healing. So how is it Miles can heal faster? And it is not as if being a Compound Twinborn possibly changes the nature of the allomantic charge because Miles still burns gold to see past/potential versions of himself. This next part is speculation, but it does not seem to even change the nature of storing health feruchmically. I assume that Miles survived his initial execution after the first round of shooting because he swallowed a piece of gold (though I realize this may not be the case). If this is the case, however, then it means he still has to store charge and run out of that charge like any other Feruchemist. So my questions are: How does Miles heal more than the average Feruchemist? Do Compunding Twinborns just always have their power on full for some reason (for example are chromium Ferrings always lucky)? Do these Twinborns have increased power to thier Allomancy like they fo for their Feruchemey? *Also for kicks* How do you think Miles survived after being executed the first three times?
  3. Well this one has been answered. The Feruochemist was a Duralumin or Connecter Ferring who can store essentially friendship into his metalmind
  4. Finished The Lies of Locke Lamora. It was good. Like Mistborn they are both heist set-ups in a fantasy setting. I think a major difference is that The Lies of Locke Lamora is more of a con than a heist and the theme holds the whole way through while Mistborn becomes a straight epic fantasy novel.
  5. In the end I did decided to finish the John Clever series before I started another one and finished the last two books of the trilogy this week. I can see why you said that the second book was the weakest. While still a great book in its own right, 'Mr. Monster' only pales when compared to the other two. The third book 'I Don't Want To Kill You' in particular was indeed amazing. I can count on one hand how many times a book has actually got me choked up by the end and this is definitely one of them. I am really glad I finished this series and am especially eager now to read 'A Night of Blacker Darkness' and any of the future books Wells has coming down the line.
  6. I agree that shard holders were likely all of the same type of human and that they likely based their creations on themselves. Still, when beings who are basically different gods build something from no other fundamental source but their own divine energies, I cannot see why they would have to be so similar as to able to do something as breed.It would be like if you asked two people on opposite sides of the world to each build a car. They would both know what a car should look like, but they build it based on their own sensibilities and the resources* around them. Maybe one builds a hummer and the other builds a boxcar. Do you think that both those cars would be the same let alone have interchangeable parts? (*In my analogy of course the resources would be the different aspects of the each shard). Of course Sanderson may prove me wrong when he finally writes his cross cosmere epic, but until then I see each species in the cosmere as basically aliens to one another.
  7. I think Breath is distinct to the people of Nalthis. Each "human" race in the Cosmere was created by a different god from scratch. The only thing we know for sure that they have in common is they outwardly look similar, and this is not even the case for many of the "people" on Roshar. For example, the people on Scadrial were created under the concepts of Ruin and Preservation which sounds completely different from people who were created under the concept of Endowment. I highly wonder if two of these separate species could breed together let alone share a magical aspect.
  8. It was actually listening to this book on the Tor.com podcast that made me start reading Brandon Sanderson in the first place.
  9. As much as I like Szeth, I think he is shaping up to be a very major villain. Unlike other villains in the books who are already bullies and extremists, the fact that Szeth started blaming his victims is the first step on a dark road to becoming a merciless killing machine. The only difference is that we as readers are going to have to watch as his soul gets picked to pieces as he becomes this.
  10. Finishing up The Painted Man (aka The Warded Man). I am torn between what I want read next between: Dan Wells' Mr. Monster or Stephen King's Dark Tower Series. Help?
  11. *Spoilers* I just read a book about people who are born with specific powers. These people are grouped and given nicknames. The main villain is a man who has access to all available powers and works secretly to ward off an evil divinity. He also employs an elite guard who are given extra powers artificially from an external force driven into their bodies. The two main characters are a hardcore older man and a young woman. The older man is an ex-prisoner who is talented with his power at the start of the book. He initially distrusts the woman he loves, but after she dies, he regrets his decision and works harder to defeat the main villain. The young girl comes from a low-class background. Quickly she becomes a part of a secret organization of people with powers who have plans to topple the main villain. She starts the book as a novice to her powers, but comes to show that she has the potential to become more powerful than anyone. The young girl falls in love with a young man who is wealthy and has high ideals, but only gets his money from the disreputable deals his family makes with the main villain. The book was Hard Magic by Larry Correia. What book did you think I was talking about?
  12. That's a good point. Still, I wonder if Hoid could find a way around such a limitation? If not a normal shard exactly, perhaps it has something to do with the unknown element he keeps around. And something tells me that he keeps the element on his person. "I protect its safety like I protect my own skin" is just too odd a euphemism to make me think that it is anything but literal.
  13. I am still voting for the hemalurgy angle for the hostages. Getting allomancers from a strong bloodline would make the most potent spikes.
  14. I just finished re-reading that page and wondered if there was a litte more to it than that. Consider the whole quote: Wit/Hoid is known for being, well, witty. Like a good Shakespearean fool, he speaks truths in nonsense. In the first line he says that he was "a thought", then stole "myself", and named for a "rock". We figure that the rock was possibly a shard “A beautiful one". As for the rest of it, remember that shardholders take on the aspects of the shards they hold "Ati was once a kind and generous man". Maybe Hoid is more aware than the other shardholders (assuming he is a shardholder) that whomever he is now, he is nothing like the person he was before he attained a shard. No, the person he is now would be much closer to the aspect of the shard he is holding. So in reality, he is more an aspect of Adonalsium i.e. "a thought", than the person holding it. In the same way concepts like Ruin was a thought or concept of Adonalsium that dominated Ati. When Hoid says that he stole himself, he may be referring to the time when the human revived his shard (or more accurately, when the shard received its human). Sadly, despite the power that person had received, that person was still not as grand as Adonalsium or even as a pure shard aspect without a human mind tainting it. Hence, the rock "became completely worthless for my wearing it.” On a similar note, I wonder if the name Hoid actually was the name of the person who had received the shard? "The name of someone I should have loved."
  15. Also, consider the experiments of Geranid. Spren shape themselves to what people think that they should look like. That sounds like a cognitive aspect to me.
  16. No, I agree with you that the man likely has literal koloss blood as Wax said. I just wondered why Sanderson decided to make him gray?
  17. If that is the case, it is curious that a tan-skinned human and a blue-skinned koloss would make a grayish-skinned man.
  18. It will probably end up being a God of War platformer with "Press A for pewter punch" and "Press B for coinshot". However, if it ended up being something more like Oblivion, that would be awesome.
  19. I tried spinning the image on my computer, and you're right when you say it looks right (and equally interesting) regardless of what side it is on. I also noticed while spinning picture that the mists are swirling around the mistborn. For some reason, I didn't notice it until I had the picture rightside-up(/upside-down?).
  20. I have been blinded by how awesome that is . I know I'll never be able to play it with anyone in my hometown, but I would love to read the additional content, the game mechanics, and of course your art work.
  21. You're probably right, on both counts. This is just something that has been gnawing inside my head and I had to get it out.
  22. Help I know not all of the aspects of this RPG are accurate, but I was working more of the idea of keeping things fair than accurate. There are still a plenty of things that need to be worked out. The ones that I can think of: Zinc/Brass burners should be able to control Koloss and Kandra at a certain level as sort of a Combat pet. How should this work? Should Kandra and Koloss be playable characters? If so, how should they work? How much EXP should it cost to raise an Attribute? How much EXP should it cost to raise an Allomantic Stat? There should be a mechanic for flaring metal. Maybe an Allomancer can go past their Allomantic Stat at the cost of more points of metal? Any ideas? Are any type of Misting broken? Are Feruchemists broken? Are Hemalurgists broken? Prices, right now, are determined by the players selling them. I am hoping that regular economics and competition will keep the prices fair. Do you think this will work? Should there just be fixed prices for things? How should players get the items to sell in the first place? Maybe the Lord Ruler/Moderator should give each House a specific type of good? Is there a better idea? Does anyone know a good place to make a message board with a database because that would be useful in keeping track of all these numbers? Am I forgetting anything? Any feedback, questions, or answers would be appreciated.
  23. Twinborn The setting is assumed to take place sometime before the fall of the Final Empire. If, however, there is an *Alloy of Law* setting then we can use Twinborns. Twinborns would be a Player who can use one Allomantic Stat and one Feruchemical Metalmind.
  24. Hemalurgy Hemalurgy can give a Player Allomantic and Feruchemical powers, but there are definite drawbacks. Unlike Allomancy, Hemalurgy cannot use EXP to increase Allomantic Stats; and unlike Feruchemy, Hemalurgists cannot use money buy more Metalminds to increase his or her Max Store limit. In order to increase in power, Hemalurgists must fight in order to earn Hemalurgic Spikes. Spikes If a Hemalurgist wins in Combat, he or she is rewarded with a Spike. This Spike can take one Attribute, one Allomantic Stat, or one Feruchemical Metalmind. The type of Spike indicates what type of power the Player acquires. Tin Spike - Attribute Senses[*] Iron Spike - Attribute Strength[*] Steel Spike - Allomantic Stats Tin Pewter Steel Iron [*] Bronze Spike - Allomantic Stats Zinc Brass Copper Bronze [*] Aluminum - Allomantic Stat Duralumin[*] Atium - Allomantic Stat Atium[*] Pewter Spike - Feruchemical Metalminds Pewtermind Ironmind Steelmind Goldmind Tinmind [*] Brass Spike - Feruchemical Metalminds Zincmind[*] Gold Spike - Feruchemical Metalmind Atiummind As mentioned before, a Hemalurgist cannot upgrade any of these Stats with EXP or money. By winning in Combat, a Hemalurgist can pick one Spike to copy one Attribute, Allomantic Stat, or Metalmind from the defeated Opponent. For example, if the Opponent has Tin: 6, then the Player earns a Steel Spike that burns Tin: 6. Spikes do not Stack. If a Hemalurgist wants a Spike with a higher Attribute, Allomantic Stat, or Metalmind; then they must defeat in Combat an Opponent with a higher number in the desired Attribute, Allomantic Stat, or Metalmind. For example, if the Player Hemalurgist with Tin: 6 and defeats an Opponent with Tin: 10 and copies it, the Player can now use Tin: 10. For the sake of fairness, only Mistings or people without Allomantic powers at can become a Hemalurgist. If the Player was a Misting, then the Player can upgrade that one Allomantic Stat stacked on top of any Spikes.
  25. Feruchemy Feruchemy too modifies Combat and Negotiation, but in a different way. While Allomancy deals with the Allomantic Stats and burning Metals, Feruchemy deals with Metalminds and Storing Attributes. Metalminds Metalminds are used to Store an Attribute and has a Max Store limit. The Max Store limit is determined when a Player buys his or her Metalmind. For example, a Player can buy a (20) point Pewtermind and which the Player could pull up to 20 points of Strength from. The type of Metalmind determines which Stat can be Stored. Tinmind: Stores Senses Steelmind: Stores Physical Speed Pewtermind: Stores Strength Ironmind: Stores Weight Goldmind: Stores Health Zincmind: Stores Mental Speed Atiummind: Stores Age Storing Attributes Feruchemists can subtract from his or her Stats and Store the difference of those points into a Metalmind for later use. For example, if a Player has Strength: 8, then the Player can reduce his or her Stat to Strength: 3 and put the 5 point difference into a Pewtermind while not in combat. Strength: 8 - (5) = 3 Pewtermind: (5)/20 [*] Later, in combat, the Player can use the 5 points in his or her Pewtermind to increase Strength. Strength: 8 + (5) = 13 Pewtermind: (0)/20 All Stats revert to their base Stat at the beginning of each new post and can be stored again into a Metalmind. However, no Stat however can ever be reduced to 0 or the Player is instantly KOed whether or not he or she is in combat. Whenever a Player is storing a Stat, he or she must write the Storing at the bottom of the post. It should look like this: [-5 Points From Strength] Feruchemical Stats A Feruchemists will have a place look at his or her Metalminds: Feruchemical Stores Tin : (00)/00 Steel : (00)/00 Pewter : (00)/00 Iron : (00)/00 Gold : (00)/00 Zinc : (00)/00 Atium : (00)/00 The first set of numbers in (parenthesis) represents how many points from a Stat the Player has Stored. The second set of numbers represents the Max Store limit of all the Metalminds of each metal type. Metal minds stack for Max Store limit. For example, if a Player buys a Pewtermind with a Max Store limit of 10 and later buys another Pewtermind with a Max Store limit of 8, then the Player's new Max Store will now be 18.
