  1. Is it possible that Iyatil is a Shardholder herself? It seems to me that someone would need to be pretty darn powerful for a man like Mraize to commit himself to.
  2. I buy that, Moogle. Even if it's wrong, it's an interesting coincidence.
  3. Here are my thoughts: Chapter 6 Holy crap, that first line in Navani's journal! Pattern—cute name. Aw, Pattern the puppyspren. Cool! Shallan is Lightweaving! Illumination—was that on the chart before? I'm wondering if the Parshendi have access to those old records in their "city." "And stop trying to mother me." HA! Jasnah is awesome. I think Chapter 7 is a continuation of the cliffhanger and that's why they didn't include it. Chapter 8 I totally buy the idea that Dalinar wrote the glyphs himself. Or perhaps a spren or someone using him to write it and that's why the glyphs weren't quite right. Chapter 9 Gravity is an agreement between friends. I love Syl. She's definitely giving something away here—something about spren controlling natural forces. Perhaps this is why one needs to bond with spren to control those forces (ie Surgebind). I think Pattern and Syl could be friends if they could get over their sprenist stereotypes. Stormspren—like the spren needed to create stormform? I think there's something behind her defying the Stormfather. Stormfather=Jezrien, whose order is the Windrunners. Perhaps he controls all the honorspren. Or maybe (random speculation) Syl used to be Jezrien's spren. Weight? She's becoming more a part of the Physical Realm?
  4. Brandon mentioned in the WorldBuilders/Waygate live stream that the launch would be midnight at the BYU bookstore, but no more information than that. I assume it will be plastered all over Facebook, Twitter, and the 17th Shard homepage when it's officially announced.
  5. Hey, all. I was there the whole time. I got a few of my questions answered (not to mention naming the main character, woot!). So, sorry, but I only remember the ones I asked. Are the Heralds Rosharan? got a RAFO, but good question. Are there highstorms in Aimia? got a quick yes. I wondered about the Heralds during the description of Shalash when it said she had Alethi(?) skin and Shin eyes and Baxil wonders if she's some sort of hybrid. I just think she must be from a different world. And the highstorms one interests me because there are none in Shinovar, which means the highstorms go around Shinovar to reach Aimia or they come from the other direction. Any thoughts?
  6. . . . you take notes while reading a fiction book and you keep a running list of questions you want to ask Brandon and rewrite them over and over again until you've avoided all the loopholes and RAFO bait.
  7. I'm glad this came up. I've been wondering about the difference between Shardblades having mist around them when summoned, but spren having none when they appear. I know that's not a lot to go on, but it seems to me that they come from different places. It's also a nice symmetry of KR having one thing from the Cognitive Realm (spren) and one thing from the Spiritual (Shardblades...and Plate?).
  8. Hey, I was just wondering if you are able to delete multiple photos in the galleries. My computer froze and it uploaded my picture twice. It's the Framed Elendal Daily in Mistborn art. Can you do that? If not, will you let me know how (or if) I can?

  9. I know it isn't fanart, but I had to share my framed broadsheet from the Alloy of Law signing.
  10. Am I missing something with the whole "Ookla" thing?

  11. *Alloy of Law Spoilers!* After reading Alloy of Law, I was thinking a lot about TLR and what the limit of his powers would be. One need only look as far as Miles to see how much power TLR had at his disposal. Miles compounding of gold tells us a lot about the nature of compounding Twinborns. When you think about TLR as a Twinborn with every possible combination and being able to compound each available metal, it would seem as if his power was infinite. Gold alone made Miles practically invincible, and it does mention in MB that TLR was completely invincible. (I don't have my books, but I think the quote is something like:) People burned down his inn and he walked out of it growing new skin immediately, and decapitation only annoys him. That seems pretty similar to someone compounding gold. If TLR was compounding each and every one of his metals, with a little hemalurgy thrown in there somewhere, plus his past as the Sliver, that should explain why he was considered a god.
  12. These posts are going to be extremely helpful! It's hard to read every single thread and pick through all the theories. Thanks for providing the facts so succinctly!
  13. I don't know about that. We do know that he had an apprentice, Sigzil, and that he was on Roshar to see someone but ended up avoiding him. It could be that he does have quite a network of people set up on each planet supplying him with information. Maybe that's why he always disguises himself as a beggar or informant or story-teller; what better costumes to gather information?
  14. I have to agree that until we have further information about who belongs to the 17th Shard, Hoid is our only real option at this point. And even still, we know so little about him: he could very well be an epic scholar/storyteller. Who knows? I, for one, hope we get some serious cosmere-heavy information in the 2nd SA. AoL was a good story, but apart from the AA, offered no new insights into the cosmere. I know we're probably the minority in his fan base, so I understand that every story can't be Hoid-central, but getting all of the information piece by confusing piece is hard.
  15. You know, apart from high imperial.
  16. And I now can no longer understand my own thread... Oh, well. I'm glad it has cleared some things up for math-type people. If anyone figures out the edition number, please let us know. I think there are still plenty of symbols we don't know yet, ones that represent all the other available alloys, that will fill in the blanks of the Steel Alphabet. Though we kind of have to wait for the Scadrians to discover them all. Does anyone have any thoughts about the prologue and epilogue symbols representing Ruin and Preservation respectively?
  17. I'm still a little confused about the 122... maybe that's because math makes zero sense to me. Sorry. I also don't understand why it can't be base-16, especially after being confirmed by Brandon. I just noticed that the two symbols we are missing in the edition number are part of the Steel Alphabet in Mistborn. They seem to be the 20th and 19th metal respectively. Unfortunately they are unnamed, and I'm not sure if anything else is known about them. Does anyone know anything more about those metals? Also, I have a theory about the symbols for the prologue and epilogue. The symbol for the prologue is a single spike. Following the logic about spikes representing Ruin, this symbol could potentially encompass the Ruin shard on Scadrial (ie their way of saying Ruin in their language). That said, the symbol for the epilogue looks shockingly similar to the symbol for lerasium in the MB books. Lerasium is pretty much synonymous with Preservation. Perhaps those symbols aren't actually letters or numbers, but words denoting Ruin and Preservation. Thoughts?
  18. Thanks for the correction. I wasn't sure what to call them. Although... now that I know their real name, I feel a little...redundant. Yay about the number system though! Base 16 = Awesome.
  19. Darniil, you're from the Canton of Cartography. Care to comment about lerasium being the prime meridian of Scadrial?
  20. Genius! You guys are so good at this! Also, I didn't know it was confirmed that the glyphs were an alphabet before this, but that is good to know. Perhaps the reason we are having trouble is because the glyph-language has changed since the Origin. It has been 300 years. [Potential spoiler: think about the fact that "wasing the where of needing" was considered a lofty phrase! Which by the way made me laugh hysterically, but it could be something like that.] Atium is basically unheard of at this point, which would include all of its alloys, and that could potentially change the entire language.
  21. I see them. There are only a few that correspond to the ones in AoL. But I recognize a few from MB. We will need some help from someone with access to the whole series. Poor me. Edit: You're probably right about reading into it, but it seems significant that chapters 17 through 20 use the base 16 system similar to how Latin used 5s and 10s. We may be on to something as far as that goes.
  22. My initial thought was that they formed an alphabet. Perhaps the glyphs are both a base 16 number system AND an alphabet, so the prologue and epilogue are like a "p" and an "e". I also noticed that the maps in the MB trilogy have glyphs instead of directions on the compass rose. Perhaps those are letters as well. Maybe you could check if the glyph for the epilogue and the glyph for the direction east are the same. (Since I don't have my books or I would do it. ) It's a long shot, but it might work. Admin Edit: Please refrain from doubleposting. Thanks!
  23. That's really really funny. Yeah, my husband and I are just sitting here, laughing like crazy that this happened. We may want to consolidate this instead of just writing back and forth on both topics.
  24. This is too, too weird! Anyway, did you get the thing about possibly 50 symbols? That would explain the ones that aren't accounted for.
