  1. I took 600 men to war and not one of them died there, in case you needed a reminder
  2. Thank you for the concern, but brother, I can assure you, our journey is almost done
  3. She activated her exoskeleton.
  4. “Um…” I got it, Elan sent to her, then switched to sending to Insa. After her injuries, she received painkillers- and nothing more- from Jar Man. She was then captured by a group that tries to turn magic-welders into soldiers free of emotion. They cleaned and treated her wounds, but gave her nothing for pain and weren’t exactly careful with her. She was only there for a few hours, but it’s still a horrible memory.
  5. The glass slightly shook as she lifted it to her mouth. It seemed to calm her down a bit, but the water did nothing to remove the memories now bouncing through her head.
  6. She followed, expression carefully guarded.
  7. She took a deep breath and opened her mouth to speak, but she choked on the words. Her tongue just wouldn’t let her speak. She swallowed and tried once more and, this time, once she got started, the story just started to spill out. The terrified young boy she’d taken in as her son. His rapid growth within a few days. His betrayal, the reveal that it had all been a lie. The fire and sand in the clinic hallway. The five times the knife entered her body, the slam against a sand dune. Pain so bad she couldn’t move. Elan coming to save her and killing the boy. Maybe reliving it wouldn’t hurt so bad if she were able to cry right now. Elan put his arm around her shoulders.
  8. She swallowed. “It’s just.. it’s a painful memory that came on suddenly. I’m fine.”
