No, I imagine being alive when the other person is dead.

I killed better than they did, and I survived better than they did. And thus, I won.

Whether I succumb to my wounds afterwards is not relevant to me winning or losing.

As others have said. The spirit of the agreement is that one champion comes out alive. Not which dies first.

And thus upon the first person breaking the contract the other party is no longer bound.

If they choose to break at the same time then they both broke the contract.

If there is so much as a Planck instant in which one champion is dead and the other is not the living party wins and the results cannot be altered.

If they both die then neither champion really won.

gotta say you picked a fitting username.

You're using the letter of the agreement, to say that the spirit of the agreement says something?

There are no twists of language that get Odium what he wants.

This is the stupidest argument I’ve seen on this forum. If both champions quite they break the contract. If both die no one wins, contract goes void.

    Frost's letter to Hoid

It does require some speculation on what exactly that means. I think Zahel's conversation with Kaladin in RoW also states or at least implies Roshar being one of the older planets in the cosmere.

I’ll have to re-read that soon. Where can that letter be found?

  5. Kinda confuses me cause on

    Spoiler

Scadrial we know the shards there created humanity on that planet

so did Honor and Cultivation create the Dawnsingers or did they naturally develop? I tried looking it up but couldn’t find a thread that even asked that. Do we even know?

Well, Kaladin couldn't make himself lighter, but in RoW, he uses it to carry Teft for longer than he probably could. (Maybe he could have carried Teft for that long. I don't know. Kaladin's got to have insane stamina, even without Stormlight. He pushes his body to the very limits quite often.)

Hasn’t he made himself lighter before? I thought he did it in WoR just having a slight lashing?

Stormlight would reset your body so you wouldn't get stronger.

However you could make yourself weigh less while maintaining your strength and oxygen levels so you could run forever.

Yeah that’s what I figured. Would be interesting to have seen something like that if Stormlight didn’t work the way it does.

I haven’t thought of the running forever, that’d be interesting. The whole ability to fly almost makes running useless but it’d be really cool to see a Windrunner use they’re surges for some ridiculous running feats.

  8. So just random thought.
lets say Stormlight were real in someway or whatever, and a person who ran track or any other sport really were a Windrunner. Would they be able to weigh themselves down to help with strength training or utilize Stormlight in some other way to assist training? Or would them using any Stormlight just heal any part if their body as they tried to build up strength making it a moot point?

I, personally, would prefer to have read it immediately after Hero of Ages. The "spoilers" people are referring to are indeed better after Bands of Mourning, but I don't think they're that much better that it's worth becoming less familiar with the relevant events from the first three books. Even if you do prefer to wait until after HoA you'll get more out of SH if you re-read the original trilogy immediately before anyways.

Cosmere interconnectivity between books being what it is, and the fandom being what it is, there is a real chance that the SH spoiler(s) will be less impactful than they would have been right after SH was published. I wouldn't say that there is a wrong way to read SH though (except maybe before reading era 1, I guess), so I wouldn't worry about it too much no matter what you decide.

That’s what I decided to do. I had bought a copy shortly before posting and was just thinking about it. But then I thought “I’ve read through the entirety of Stormlight before any other cosmere books and had HoA big time spoiled for me before finishing it so what’s the worst that could happen?”

I agree with @Frustration above. I think it mainly depends though on how long it will take you to read the first three books of Era 2 though. In my opinion MBSH is better when the events of the original trilogy are fresh in your mind. I had read the original trilogy years before MBSH and I think some of the stuff in it would have landed better if I had read the trilogy more recently.

I gatcha. I probably won’t be reading era 2 for awhile since I’ve got a lot of books sitting on my shelf to get threw plus I want to read Elantris and Warbreaker before then. I thank y’all for these responses, very helpful.

We know that Renarin is voidbinding.

Let's talk about Renarin, and Voidbinding. So, with that page we talked about, Renarin Voidbinds. I asked about visions, you pointed to Voidbinding chart, he Voidbinds. Is that using Stormlight to power abilities different from the Surgebindings we've seen?

    Brandon Sanderson

    Yes.

    Argent

    Is that what voidbinding is?

    Brandon Sanderson

No, but close. You're on the right track. We are gonna get into that, I'm not gonna tell you what the chart means, and things like that. But yeah, something really weird is happening there.

Footnote: The chart referenced is the back endsheet in The Way of Kings.

And here I thought that chart was just a fancy surgebinding chart… interesting.

  12. I’d like to preface this by saying WoR is probably my favorite book in the series (shocking I know) and at present a contender for my favorite book in general. So my suggested thought in no way takes away from my enjoyment from the book. Felt like saying that. Anyway.

So does anyone else think Kaladins third ideal would have been more effective as a ark if done with Amaram instead of Elhokar? I still think it works great with Elhokar but Kaladin reeeally hated Amaram as we know. I feel like it would have been more affective in showing Kaladins growth in wanting to protect all those he can. Just a thought curious what any of y’all have to say about it.
