  1. Hate to break it, but I don't believe in the LDS church or currently any religion atm. I haven't told anyone and I'm too afraid because I fear judgement, but because I only have one year left before I move out, I'll just stick to pretending I'm still a part of the religion for my parents and friends in high school. I have many reasons as to why I no longer believe, and I don't think any convincing can bring me back. I just don't see any of the religious texts as credible anymore at all, so quoting them won't help either. I sound close minded, but the reason why I left was because I considered both sides of the argument being that Christianity and the Mormon church is true vs untrue.

I read part of the first book, it was boring.

SAME LMAO. The movies weren't that boring, but the books were- that's the first time I've said the movie was better than the book! I just don't understand the hype surrounding LOTR, I mean the prose is quite good though. I mainly have acquaintances, but I wish I had more close friends. I'm an extrovert so maybe not a smaller circle at that expense either.

    TPBM likes Mistborn over Stormlight

...Talking to young women I take it, in the real world too... I know how to help, it involves depression and acceptance.
    1. Accept you have a problem
    2. Read a lot of the Cosmere
    3. Repeat.

If you can handle the glaring light of the real world, let's toast to your success.

You can always talk to a knowledgeable Cosmere girl here on the shard ;)

    No this isn't me, I'm a guy.

It's SO close! I'm thinking of converting to Willshaper or re-taking it because I feel more like a Willshaper. Do you guys think I should convert?

    Edit: I converted

This thread is really weird to read as the youngest of nine, ngl

xD. I'm honestly pretty old too for my family since I'm 17 and the youngest is 0 and the second to oldest is 13, so my case is somewhat special. Oh and the only sister I have is the 0-year-old.

Edit: ahhh yest RoW. I just finished that after a couple months of reading. Maybe I'll read some Warbreaker instead?

This will solve all your problems!

  6. My brothers were apparently going through my books yesterday while I was at tennis practice and now I'm annoyed. I think one of them may have taken a copy of Mistborn HoA since it's missing. I tried to ask my second to oldest brother (13) if he'd seen one of them take it, but he said "No. Deal with it geek." My bookshelf is also completely disorganized -_-

My sister read all of Mistborn Era 1 and she's only 11.

She's also a very mature 11 year old, in some aspects. She wants to read Stormlight, and I think she'd deal with it fine, and my parents seem to think so, too. She's read some other stuff by Brandon Sanderson; Rithmatist, Alcatraz, Skyward (just book one, I think) and I gave her Steelheart the other day.

So I guess it all depends on the 11 year old.

Yeah... my brother isn't that mature no offense to him ofc.

  8. I know this forum hasn't been talked on, but I thought this would be worth sharing: Soooooooooooooo my brother is starting to read Stormlight for the first time, and he's only 11. I tried to warn him that it's an adult book with heavier topics and themes, and that he might want to start with those kids books Brandon Sanderson previously wrote, but he insisted on reading Stormlight. I believe it's because people at his school have this thing where you're "cool" if you read large books, but whatever this should be interesting.

I've thought about this way to much:

I think I have a subconscious monologue that narrates the deeper thoughts and concepts I am going through. It is very loose however and as soon as I try to focus on it, I can only think in words. Whenever I think about how I think, I always can clearly visualize the words. However, I always seem to think more linearly when I am in this state, so I know it's not my resting state of mind. But that might just be me trying to understand my thinking....

As you can see, I think I have a monologue, but it's really hard to tell. I do know for a fact that I think out in words future conversations and things I am going to write.

Yup, I have conversations in my head all the time. Of course, as Tom Scott puts it, I cannot realize if it's turned off because I, unlike some people, cannot make the conscious choice to turn it off. Perhaps when I'm focusing hard on what someone is saying my inner monologue shuts off without me realizing?

I can relate to the part where you try not to think in words, but you can't anyway.

  10. Hello everyone, I recently discovered most of the population doesn't have an inner monologue, or a process in which a person can sound out words in their head without having to speak them aloud. Only around 26% of us have a near constant one (constant is pretty much impossible, and when research has been done people tend to over estimate the amount they internalize audio). Apprently it's not all too bad to have one (it's somewhat annoying) because, although counter intuitive, people with one are likely to have a more vivid visual imagination. Some people have an inner monologue but they don't think in full sentences or paragraphs, merely words. Anyway, I'm curious to hear your experiences, especially when reading.

Hi, I'm definitely an introvert, and also the oldest. I personally think there isn't really any correlation between personality and birth order, but it might be interesting to look more in to that.

I did a bit of digging and there really isn't much of a correlation. But it would be interesting to see what percentage of the shard is an only, oldest, middle, or youngest child.

  12. Sorry to necropost (sort of), but I've been wondering what portion of the shard is the oldest child in their family (or if they have no siblings). Also, I want to know how many people identify as introverts, extroverts, or ambiverts and how birth order could relate to their personality. Should I create a thread for that?

My brother literally has no sense of self preservation, common sense, or actually anything involving logic. Today, he pushed a stool to the edge of our staircase and stood on it. Directly after that, he tried on his brother's bow tie and almost strangled himself. When I took it away, he started screaming about an orange bow tie. We don't own any orange bow ties.  After that, he decided it would be fun to sit on our dining room table in only a diaper, eating from a huge pot of popcorn. Where he got so much popcorn, I have no idea. Oh, and the blinds were open so people on the street could see him.

I love my siblings, but they're a little crazy. Actually they're completely crazy. Dare I mention the time my oldest little brother decided that my name is actually a species name, therefore making me not human?

Have any of you noticed that the oldest child in a family tends to be more responsible and... maybe a little bit bossy?

I'm kind of bossy at times, but I think my second oldest brother (the sibling after me) is pretty bossy
