"Let it be a lesson to you, then. You see very little of what I do. Don't presume to think yourself higher than me." Rue was...enjoying this.

    Tal frowned. "Um, okay." If she wants to throw a tantrum, let her. Nothing you do will stop it. He forced away a smile at a memory that surfaced, then a grimace at the sharp pain that followed.

    He nodded, though of course she couldn't see. Then he just stood there, not saying anything, but not leaving either.

    Rue gave him a hard look. "Are you questioning me?" Tal let out a huff of breath. "Look, what did I do to you? Whatever it is, I'm sorry, and if you'll tell me, I'll work very hard not to do it again."

    A fool? Is that what she thinks I am? Good. It'll be easier that way. "May I come in?" He asked, neither polite nor impolite. It was a question, not something to obsess over.
