  1. "Hey, Melody!" Tal said, grinning. "What's up with TAAron? How was Scadrial?"
  2. Tal blinked. "Um..." Don't interfere. But stars above, he wanted to, no matter what Emma said. "He's usually a good one to talk to. Not sure what's going on with him right now." @Just-A-Stick @RoyalBeeMage
  3. "Okay." Again, Tal sounded kind and patient. He fished a tiny black key from a pocket and held it out to her. "Down the purple stairs, between the first and second basement, next to Pougle's Pond. If you need medical attention or to eat first, though, the mess hall is right through..." he stopped as they rounded a corner, coming across some people. @The Aspiring Archivist @RoyalBeeMage @Aeoryi
  4. "Nice to meet you, Jinx," Tal said calmly. "Would you like something to eat? Or a room key, if you'd rather be on your own?"
  5. "So...do you have a name? I'm Tal." "Easy," Tal said. "Friend, this is Roy. Roy...ah...maybe be careful." Tal blinked. "Well...there are thousands of refugees, and hundreds of patrons..."
  6. Tal laughed. "Yeah, we have some of that too." He'd started walking. "Don't worry, though, no one's being kept here against their will." Except me...stop it. You know that isn't true. Mostly.
  7. "Most everything," Tal said. "We have some of the best healers there are."
  8. “You should have said!” Tal called back. He pulled out a key of carved jade. “Up the orange stairs, about 6 1/2 flights, then down the squid corridor and behind the honeycomb door.” He tossed him the key. “Well…we help with brandofandonitis (and other maladies), but recently we’ve been doing much more with taking in refugees and providing a home for those who need it. Many people use the clinic as a sort of…safe base, between adventures.”
  9. Tal nodded. “That happens. You’re welcome to stay for as long as it takes to figure it out. And longer. Would you like a room, a tour?”
  10. Tal sat up at the desk, discreetly sliding Mistborn under some papers. “Hi, welcome to the Insanity Clinic for the Moderately Brandofandonitis Afflicted and Other Maladies, how can I help you?”
  11. Rue turned back and gave him a sad smile, then disappeared around a corner.
  12. …I’ve kind of popped out of existence, but you could probably do stuff since I think everyone’s back at the clinic now
  13. “Okay,” Rue whispered, then leaned in and gave him a tight hug before pulling away. Rue looked at her, then nodded. “I am…sorry I haven’t gotten to know you better. I hope the clinic can give you all that it’s given me.” Then she turned and left.
  14. Rue started to shake her head, but she stumbled again, reaching for a wall to steady herself. “Just…promise me you’ll figure it out. As soon as you can.”

On the (rare) occasion I receive a compliment, usually I just say thank you. The good part about not getting compliments a ton is that they mean a lot :)

Yes, but how does one accept a compliment? It is a skill I have yet to begin learning.

I'm told you're supposed to say thanks

      Yes, but that's too obvious-

Have to keep the sleep demons questioning your every move

  16. She smiled faintly. “Let’s figure this out before I go, then. I can hold on for that long.” She ignored the quiet at the back of her mind, ignored the lack of the power that had always been there, waiting for her to call.
  17. Rue hesitated. "You need to get healed."
  18. She nodded. "It's...complicated? I'll still be here, but my mind won't. And time works differently there. It may be some time before I return."
  19. Rue nodded slowly. "I need to go," she said abruptly. "Not...not physically. But there's...I can barely feel my power. There's a place, the world of dreams. There is someone there who might be able to help me figure it out." She paused. "I should have been able to fight them."
  20. Rue shook her head. "It doesn't matter."
  21. Rue started towards him. She stumbled, but caught herself. "Thank you," she murmured.
  22. Rue gave her a flat look. Once they were both through, she let the gateway slide shut, cutting an inquisitor in two.
  23. "I'm not staying behind," Rue snapped. "Go."
