  1. Took the day off from work so I could do so, yes. And I'm now sleep-deprived, but one Cosmere book richer. The entire book felt like a Sanderlanch. It felt like something was happening in pretty much every chapter. It felt cramped and exhausting - intentionally so, but still. The book surprised me a fair bit. I wasn't expecting Dalinar to Ascend. I wasn't expecting Retribution. I wasn't even expecting Odium to have a shardpool, though that makes perfect sense in hindsight. I'm very surprised at how total Taravangian's victory was, and how scattered the main cast is now. I think my favorite part is how Dalinar stopped kicking the can down the road and forced the rest of the Cosmere to get off their butts and take Odium seriously. I really love how brutal and terrifying Taravangian is now. I love the deep dive into Roshar's past. I loved the chapters written from the perspective of the Shards. I like the sheer amount of foreshadowing that finally paid off. I even liked the wider Cosmere references, since they didn't seem forced here - they actually felt appropriate, given the events of this book. Gavinor we all saw coming, right? It was foreshadowed with the Death Rattles and of course Odium was going to choose a champion that Dalinar would be unwilling to kill. No surprise there, nor with Dalinar's reaction. No idea what all that fallen moon stuff is about, though. I would've liked to hear a bit more about that.
  2. I think you've answered your own question here. Worldhoppers are interested in this world either to further their own goals, or just to learn about it. So what would everyone want on this world? I don't know about the specifics of your world, so I can only speak in general terms, but I think I can make some good guesses: Hoid Well, we know that Hoid has a sixth sense for showing up at important events, so he could be on this world here just because something important is about to happen. Or he could just be trying to pilfer the local magic system, he is wont to do. Ghostbloods They'd be here to answer two questions. What about this world presents a threat to Scadrial? Alternately, what about this world could be used to aid Scadrial? 17th Shard The 17th Shard is non-interventionist, so they'll probably at least try to stay out of focus. But if what we've seen on Roshar is any indication, they will stick out like a sore thumb. From what we know of them, I'd say they're here just to learn about the world. Silverlight Khriss and Nazh are absolutely here to write an essay on the world's magic system. Beyond that, Silverlight's an entire city, so you could have multiple factions come from here. Maybe someone's here to set up a trading post. Maybe a university wants to sponsor an expedition. Maybe a dragon thought the city was getting a little too crowded and decided to move shop. Lots of reasons. Shards Harmony and Autonomy strike me as likely candidates to send agents to this world. Harmony's agents could simply be scouting out the planet, trying to figure out what exactly it has. Autonomy could be trying to create an avatar on this planet, to bring it under her fold. Question: you say you're caught up on the Mistborn eras, but does that include Mistborn: Secret History? I'll spoiler this last faction, just in case:
  3. Unfortunately, we have confirmation that Pailiah is an ardent in Kharbrant. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/139-general-signed-books-2017/#e4419
  4. Side-by-side comparison of Fandom vs. Coppermind, if anyone was wondering: I'll be honest, whenever I need to go to a Fandom wiki I just get annoyed, because Fandom just has so much garbage. You've got to remember that people go to wikis to read the articles - shoving ads, popups, sidebars, and irrelevant wiki links in your face makes for a significantly worse experience. The Coppermind is more user-friendly simply by virtue of being cleaner.
  5. Something that's been sitting in the back of my mind for a while: the Desolations are described as dragging humanity on Roshar back to the stone age. Cities were destroyed, technologies were lost, etc. And this time around, humanity is lacking quite a lot of what they had in previous Desolations. There just aren't that many Radiants this time around, if Dalinar's visions are to be trusted. The Windrunners are the most populous order with ~50 members, and the Elsecallers have just 1. Alethkar, Herdaz, Thaylenah, Azir and its satellite nations, and Tukar are the only ones actively fighting Odium's forces. Alethkar and Herdaz are occupied, and Tukar is a bit of a wild card. The Heralds aren't being particularly helpful this time around. In contrast, Odium's forces have some new advantages: The Skybreakers are now fighting for Odium. Notably, this directly takes away from humanity's forces. Half the nations on Roshar folded more or less overnight, so Odium's forces have a sizeable foothold. The Fused have millennia of combat experience, something that the modern Radiants lack. The Everstorm means that the Fused come back every nine days or so. Despite all of that, this Desolation has been...a standstill. As of RoW, neither side has really gained much since the Desolation started. But the way I'm reading it, Odium's forces should have an overwhelming advantage. So what am I missing? Why isn't this Desolation just as bad as the previous ones?
  6. I just picked one I liked and left it at that. Profile pictures should be one-and-dones, in my opinion. They're there to tell people apart at a glance, so changing them around too often just makes it that much harder to tell who's speaking.
