  1. Antin's face fell slightly at the last sentence, but he tried to hide it. He gave a mumbled "Yeah," then got to work on counting and sorting.
  2. "I guess it's fun. I was already thinking about grouping by runes, but that doesn't really work since the circles have multiple runes. I was thinking least common first because it would be easier to find a commonality. Then again, there is merit to doing most common first because then it could be easier to figure out the other runes on more tablets at a time. We can test different strategies, and see what works." Antin paused, taking a breath. "It's nice to have someone to talk to."
  3. "Ok, here's an idea for the rune pages: count the number of times that each rune appears. Group together all of the circles containing the least common rune. That one should be the easiest to figure out. Then repeat, going up in commonality and using what you already know to make guesses about how the language is representing each function and determine the meaning of even more runes." Antin paused, looking sheepish. "At least, if you think that that's a good idea."
  4. Antin stared at the spilled papers. "How about you start on that, and I organize all of those... somehow."
  5. "I think I have everything written... Look at this." He indicated a single character that he had noted on his sheet. "This one shows up on the circle for the lights and for the fireplace. Could that be some sort of connection?"
  6. "I don't actually absorb magic. According to Vance, I cancel it out with my own. But yeah, it happens when I use my ability too much. If I don't interact with magic at all for a while, I go back to looking like a normal human."
  7. Antin looked down at his hands, which were now so white they were practically glowing. He glanced over at quest, and his eyes were deep, black, and more disturbing than ever. Then he laughed. "Don't worry. It's just a thing that happens with my magic."
  8. "I guess I'm not really sure. I feel like I'm just a normal guy, but I have this defining trait that makes everyone expect me to do something more... exotic. And honestly, I think wandering about like this is fun. I'm never really loved societal structure, so I go out and do whatever I feel like doing. You all aren't the first group I've joined up with."
  9. "Sure!" Antin walked over and placed his hand on another rune.
  10. Antin took his hand off of the rune. Immediately, the light of the rune and the lights in the room returned to normal.
  11. Randomly, Antin went up to one of the runes that was glowing red, toucihng it lightly with his index finger. Instantly, the rune dimmed. Antin put his whole hand on the rune, and it went out completely. "I don't know what that did."
  12. "So decode as in figure out what they say or figure out what they do?" He picked up a few sheets of notes. "This is... something. I'm not really much of a scholar, though."
  13. Antin arrived in the room that Quest was working in. "Hello. I'm here to help you out, I guess." His black eyes focused intently on the runes. "What are those?" @Mr. Misting
  14. "I... okay." Antin left the room hurriedly to find Quest. @Mr. Misting
  15. I think this is the right place to put this... Character update: Antin is afraid of weapons. Not really when they're pointed at him (at least more than any other person), but he is terrified of handling them. So this might introduce complications. @The Halcyon Girl@Channelknight Fadran@Mr. Misting
