    Calano saw a man appear in the doorway. He wore gray robes with a hood that hid his face and carried a strange dagger made of a strange metal. When his hand moved, it seemed to shift strangely, leaving distorted afterimages. Calano felt an onslaught of strange feelings, like a comforting warmth mixed with a deadly, foreboding cold. It was very disconcerting. Nobody else seemed to notice the man or the strange feelings. @CalanoCorvus

    "Yeah... Rue, do you ever worry about what the next thing will be? You know, the next thing that goes wrong and that we'll have to deal with?"

    "Yeah, there do seem to be a lot." His own smile had faded somewhat.

    "Yeah. I just slipped, is all." She stood up, then saw his expression. "Really, I'm okay. Just... watch your step." @Rallohir

    "...Ow. I'm fine." She sat up, looking a bit disoriented.

    "Alright. Let's just eat now, though."

    "I... I..." Vena found that she couldn't answer. Not with anything convincing, anyway. Still, it felt wrong, somehow. Her thoughts got interrupted when she slipped on a patch of ice. She tumbled backward, head cracking against a stone, hard. Sharp pain shot through her skull, and she lay still, momentarily paralyzed by it.

    "Well, it's not really a trance. More like an alternate state of consciousness. Anyway, it's really fine if you'd rather do something else."

    TAAron followed. "Up to you. I know that my stuff can make you... uncomfortable."

    He did apparently notice. "Or... we could just do something with your abilities."

    "You're wrong to care about me the way you do. I don't deserve it, no matter what you say. I doubt I ever will."

    "You know, I've been wondering if I could make some sort of communication device. So I don't have to go all trance-like whenever I want to do that."

    She shook her head again. "You're wrong about me, Rahollir. I'm sorry."

    "I know I'd ruin it."

    "Not yet." "...We'll work out the details." TAAron watched the two, noting the tense atmosphere.

    Vena shook her head. "You'll hate it. Whatever it is, it won't work with someone like me in it."

    After waiting for a moment to see if Anci was gone, TAAron shrugged and proceeded into the dining hall. "So, magic toys?" @Edema Rue
