    "I'm sorry. Are you sure there's no way other than her being unconscious?" He remained silent. A bit of real hurt bled into their connection, though it wasn't immediately obvious it was his.

    TAAron fell silent, apparently catching the truth in her words. "I don't know. But no matter what, this probably would mean losing any of her trust that I might have had."

    "What good would it do? She'll certainly know something's amiss if I go and knock her unconscious. Plus, it could hurt her."

    TAAron stared at him. "...No."

    "You need something specific?"

    "How so? Would I need to distract her, or something?"

    How dare you! You are being offensive and insulting. Apologize at once, or I shall hug you again.

    "My magic might be able to be used for healing, though I don't know how. But also, my magic does not interact with other magic. So I almost certainly can't fix your specific problem."

    "Ah. I see. Well... I can't say I know much of anything about your magic. Why would I be able to help?"

    Vena felt him, and loved every second of it. She melted into him right back, and their essences seemed to mix in the tempest of shared emotions. After what felt like an eternity, the tempest stilled, and she pulled away, letting him go, opening her eyes and looking into his. The feeling of perfect closeness lingered, as did his taste on her lips. She just stared for a while, uncertain what to say or do now. "Uh... sorry. That lasted a little longer than I expected."

    Okay, okay. Rue, the way you acted to be earlier was not okay. It was rude and hurtful. I expect a sincere apology. TAAron tried to sound as serious as he could.

    "I'm not trying to pity you, I'm being empathetic. Would you rather I be angry at you?" TAAron spoke so Rue couldn't hear. "What is it?"

    "It's okay. You had just talked about something really difficult."

    Vena felt electrified, her body tingling, her heart aflame, her lips pressed firmly against his. His closeness was intoxicating, not just the physical but the emotional connection. She needed this, to love and be loved. For now, she put the questions of whether or not she deserved it out of her mind. A soft, contented sound like a sigh or a moan escaped her lungs as she released all of her tension into chilled air that no longer found purchase in her heart.

    Vena leaned down, then pressed her lips into his, pulling him up next to her, then against her. Rallohir thought he could feel her heartbeat, pounding a fast rhythm.
