    The pain remained. The feeling of wrongness seemed to grow more unsettling.

    He did not respond, just simply stared the man down.

    The man reached out and shook his hand. Pain broke out across the side of his face, like he had been struck, hard.

    Envoy locked his eyes on the man. His gaze was uniquely intense.

    "No. No... People are beautiful, but broken, especially as a collective. You all moved too fast, and your humanity hasn't caught up."

    "I'm sorry." He sighed. "My, you people are horrible to each other, aren't you?" He made eye contact with her for the first time, and his eyes were a striking amber similar to hers. An indiscernible feeling washed over her.

    "No thank you, I don't drink." He seemed to frown slightly, though it was hard to tell by only the top half of his face. "Are you alright?"

    "Yes, of course. Now... why are we speaking?"

    He chuckled. When he spoke, his voice was soft and steady. "You'd like us to pretend to know each other, then?"

    Envoy laughed softly.

    "I will observe, for now." He didn't really seem to raise his voice, but it carried very well.

    She immediately got a sense of off-ness. Primarily, it came from the oddly dressed, masked man in the corner.
