  1. She laughed. "Hardly, but that's nice of you to say."
  2. "Well... I wouldn't say I'm particularly remarkable. I don't know what I'd be important for."
  3. "None of that took much effort of my part. Anyway, I guess... are we done? You can do illusions now, so my purpose from your vision is... fulfilled."
  4. "That's good! Though I guess I didn't really end up doing much teaching."
  5. "What?"
  6. "No kidding." She sat by him, unsure what else to say or do.
  7. "Are you sure?" She looked him over, still appearing frightened. The illusion she had placed on herself had not been restored; apparently it had been forgotten.
  8. Julie nodded. "So... are you alright?"
  9. She frowned. "I guess we need to avoid that person, then."
  10. "I'm sorry you went through it! What is that thing?" She went red. "Uh, you don't have to answer that. Sorry."
  11. "There was this... thing attacking you. I thought... I thought you might have..." She went quiet.
  12. She jumped. "You're alright!"
  13. "Daniel?" She tried to see if he was still breathing.
  14. She froze as she saw the thing. "What... what are you? Leave him alone!"
  15. Julie yelped, and the illusion vanished, leaving the room jarringly dark, small, and cold. She rushed to his side, once again looking tired and disheveled. And now, frightened. "Daniel! Are you okay? What's happening?"
  16. "Hm." She closed her eyes for a moment, concentrating. The room around then suddenly burst into light, the ceiling opening to sky and the walls vanishing as a peaceful forest unraveled around them. The sights, the sounds, even the smell of the air were shifted. It seemed too real to be a construct.
  17. "Well, you saw one. What do you want me to do? I can probably do most of what you'd expect." @Ookla the foolish
  18. "Show you?"
  19. "Oh. That makes this difficult. Accessing magic, for me, is sort of an instinctive thing. I don't really know how to teach that to someone."
  20. "Uh... It's hard to explain. Is there a way you normally access magic?"
  21. "No problem."
  22. She laughed. "Right. Well, here's a pretty empty classroom. This should work."
  23. "Yeah. Illusions. If only I could actually change my physical appearance. My mom would probably be a lot happier with me."
  24. She glanced at him for a moment, expression difficult to read. Then her hair subtly neatened, and her general appearance got less disheveled. The transition was somehow easy to miss, but the change was significant.
