She felt a pleasant rush of warmth then, momentarily overcoming her anger and hatred and replacing it with a sense of joy and satisfaction.
"Would you please open the door?" Carab asked to Helda.
"I cannot promise the tests will be completely safe, but I will not be doing the same to you that I did to him. I'd rather not lose a second person with such high magical capacitance."
He eyed her, but made no comment on her statement. "Well, we could simply observe him for a while, or perhaps try to gauge his reaction to various stimuli."
"Well, all I knew was that a higher magical capacity leads to a more violent resistance when that limit is reached. So when he finally began to experience pain, I simply pushed it further to see how far it could go. This was quite unplanned."
"NO!" TAAron's cry was pained and desperate as he was issued through the gateway. "Rue-"
It was too late. The gateway closed, and he collapsed to the ground, beginning to cry.
"I don't plan on that. He's far too unique and interesting. No, he'll be an experiment, and I'll let you join me in conducting it. That way, you get to be with him. At least, whatever's left of him."
