    17 made an attempt at the motion, but they didn't stand well and wielded it awkwardly.

    They turned to address Jidah and held up the sword. "How do I use this?" @Bird Furious

    They didn't look up. Most of their attention seemed to be in the sword that Jidah had given them, still clutched in their hand.

    They nodded again, looking down. They didn't seem to make a lot of eye contact.

    They didn't seem to react. "It's what I was created for."

    "No. I'm supposed to be tested. That's what I'm for." They spoke with conviction.

    They pulled away, looking uncertainly at her. "Yes. That's why I left. I should be stronger. But I'm not."

    They flinched. "It depends. Usually just the more painful tests." "What? No, this is my fault. I just can't handle it. I've failed."

    "They punish me if they're angry. It hurts sometimes."

    "Slicing? I... they're in charge. It's bad when they're angry."

    "I'm... afraid. They won't be happy when they know I'm out here."

    They looked at the sword in startlement. "What's this for?"

    "No. I'm not hurt." They looked around again. "Can we go? I think they're going to want to find me once they know I'm gone."

    "Okay." They looked down and idly tugged at their shirt.

    "I'm from... that way." They pointed to where they had come running from. They looked at the storm, then away, not really seeming to understand.
