  1. Interesting, I'd always just assumed it was two. I could definitely see flaring gold doing something interesting, considering flaring malatium allowed Kelsier to see more, but that didn't really seem like a new alternate but rather more details about the first one. Yeah, so it's definitely less useful than an essence mark. Also, I definitely considered copper instead of aluminum for storing, but kind of like you said, my logic was that it would store memories, not skills. I also felt like aluminum fit more because identity has a lot to do with soul stamping.
  2. We know that certain things in the cosmere can be accomplished by several magic systems (such as A-Electrum and aviars both allowing you to see your immediate future), and I think there may be a way to soul forge without using stamps. First, you need to be a A-Gold and F-Aluminum twinborn. Then when you burn gold, it's said to be a very disorienting experience because you not only see your alternate lives but you even think their thoughts. It might be a bit of a stretch to some, but to me, it sounds like, for a moment, you are your alternate lives. This means that you can theoretically store your identity while burning gold. You might need a different metal mind for each identity, kind of like you do for tin, but that's an easy problem to solve. Then if you're ever in a situation where you need the skills or abilities of your alternate life, you can tap that memory and essentially use an essence mark on yourself to access that skill. It's not quite the same as an essence mark because none of your physical attribute change, but it's fairly close, in my opinion. It's also limited to only two alternates, but it's probably easier to do than create an essence mark. So what do you guys think? Could this combo work? Also, to make the power less niche do you think storing your identity would grant access to different alternate lives? This would add to the skills this person could draw on, but I'm not sure if it would work that way. Or would storing identity do other weird things to your gold shadows?
  3. This is probably a more accurate way to say it which is why I’m trying to think of other creative uses but all I can think of is replicating other magic systems… Shardplate would probably also be on the table. I wonder what the spirit to size of object ratio is. I feel like it’d take multiple spirits to form plate but that’s more of a gut I feeling. I wonder what would the other half be? Another part of the plate? Or something different? At the very least a pair of gauntlets could be sick and probably more in the realm of possibility.
  4. So, while I enjoyed the book, I found the magic system a tad underwhelming, considering that it's limited to spirits granting items, so I'm trying to find interesting applications of the gifts. My question is, if spirits can seemingly form into anything (provided they're willing), could they form a shardblade? It seems likely they could unless they're against violence, but we don't really get much evidence to say they are or aren't. I feel like the shardblade would still be weaker than a radiant shardblade and probably couldn't reshape itself or teleport, but it could still be a powerful weapon. A big difference I'm curious about is what would the other half of the sword be. I feel like a shield makes thematic sense, but a scabbard is more likely. Also, could they form a gun? If so, would that have any special properties? (Also, for this gift, I feel like the other half would be bullets potentially???) Anyway, what do you guys think? Also, are there any other applications of the magic system I missed?
  5. So, just a random question, can a kandra bond spren? We know that it's possible for them to use investiture so why not a nahel-bond? I've read that spren would be slightly repelled by a hemalurgic spike but would that apply to a kandra?
  6. K, I recently reread Sixth of Dusk, and I've got some new ideas on what other aviars could do. As it's been previously said, most of their abilities seem to be cognitive or spiritual, so I'm operating on the assumption that all talents are like this (this assumption, as well as all my predictions, are probably going to be wrong but if you take enough blind stabs eventually you'll hit something). Also, the two abilities we've seen are similar to other abilities we see in allomancy. They operate slightly differently but I believe this could imply that other abilities from other magic systems could give us ideas of other aviar talents so I've gone through and compiled a short list of which powers I think aviars could potentially have. Likely powers (talents based on what we saw in the short story) Seeking- this has already been pointed out but many predators have the ability to sense their prey so maybe an aviar could do this too. Maybe they could even take it a step further and read people's mind? Or I could see a Sanderson twist where they can sense the main emotion someone is feeling. Telepathy- If the mice have the ability to speak to Dusk then I'm sure some aviars can too. Maybe they could even extend this talent to their companions and allow them to communicate with others telepathically. Also, allomancer Jak met a bird who can talk apparently? Maybe that's another point of evidence for this ability. Other potential powers based on feruchemy and allomancy Copper- Feruchemists have the ability to store and retrieve memories. What if an aviar could do this as well? I think it'd be useful to have a bird who could scout ahead and literally show you what they saw. Then maybe their companion could do the same and show other people their memories. Rioting and soothing- Maybe aviars could influence emotions? It seems similar enough to their mental abilities. Luck- nothing much to say about this; I just feel like it'd be cool. Wakefulness- I was going through the feruchemy powers and suddenly had the idea of an owl that allowed its companion to go without sleep for longer periods of time. I think it'd be funny. Deconfirmed powers Tin- While it wasn't outright deconfirmed Dusk thought it unlikely that Vathi was able to hear the stream from so far away when she found his camp. This implies that there isn't an aviar that improves its companion's senses or at the very least it wasn't known at the time.
