    Uncertainty crept into Ashli's eyes, and she hastened her packing. She said nothing until she brushed past them all on her way up the stairs. Haly nodded, just barely. Honestly, she deserved that.

    She grinned. "No thank you." Her focus turned to Haly. "I presume this means I'm fired." "Yep." "Gotcha." Ashli rose, and still holding a cloth to her nose, gathered things together.

    Haly made a small noise, not sure whether she approved or disapproved of this. She fell back, in shock for a moment, then sat up and cupped her bleeding nose and made a sound of pain. "What was that you were just talking about? No unnecessary violence? That lasted, didn't it?"

    She breathed in deeply, relaxing, still. Soaking in the energy, she did absolutely nothing.

    She folded her arms. "So what? It felt good. I regret nothing." Haly quivered with rage. "You can't just do that!" "Oh, sorry."

    She smiled. "The great thing is--they don't know it was me. As far as anybody knows, it was all Evika. And besides, they had their own reasons to get access to Nolikar's lands."

    Ashli's eyes glittered. "That leaves us without revenge. My way was better. Surely you caught the way they talked about Eva--Saeri?"

    She looked rather puzzled. "I weakened them sufficiently to prevent backlash, should they ever find out Basilica had anything to do with the event in question. What would you have had me do?"

    Ashli opened the door and let them in. "Saeri, Evander, and two people whom I have yet to meet! Welcome." Haly stepped inside, jaw tight. Mitis licked her lips and looked around.

    "You didn't hurt me. You hurt Nolikar, which under the circumstances, isn't really a bad thing." She descended the stairs to Ashli's office and knocked. "You do the talking. I might blow up at her."

    "No, it's not," Haly snapped. "Will you let me be mad at you without feeling guilty too? It makes it more difficult."

    "Of course you don't." She sighed, exasperated. "Of course it's unfounded. But I'm still mad because I feel like he should have seen it coming and stopped it."

    "Yes! Yes I do. But I'm still mad at him." She glared at Lerac.

    *sigh* learned that just now... Perhaps I should get a dragon.

    "Yes! Yes, I'm very angry, but I know that if you leave while I'm mad, I'll be mad at myself later for letting you leave. So don't. Come interview Ashli with me, because if I do it, I will probably strangle her halfway through." She stalked out of the room. Mitis shrugged and followed her, but waited for TAAron first.
