  1. “Give it to me.” Her pulse quickened.
  2. She stared at him out of the corner of her eye, amused and also not sure what to think.
  3. She stiffened. “Give me that.”
  4. She jumped a little. “Oh, yeah. Go ahead.” Then she turned back to the fire.
  5. “But I’m no good in a fight. I should have trained with a sword.” She sighed. “I’ll come, though, if you want me.”
  6. “That’s between me and my clients. Though I will say most of them were crime lords.” She smiled a little. “It brought in good money—money we needed.”
  7. She opened her mouth, then hesitated. “I guess… I don’t know. I’m just baggage wherever I go.”
  8. “No,” she laughed. “I kill the people who need killing… usually.” A hint of shame entered her expression.
  9. “I’d just get in the way.” She blinked tears out of her eyes.
  10. “Yep… partly. But I don’t just kill anyone. Just the ones I feel like killing.”
  11. “”I guess…” she looked away. “I don’t know if I should go with you guys. I don’t have powers anymore, so I’d just get in the way.” She bit her lip.
  12. “No. My work is no concern of yours.” She smiled in memory and shifted the other things on top of the dagger. “I very much doubt you’re important enough to worry.”
  13. Her cheeks colored. “Well, yes…”
  14. *asks suspiciously where you got this shoe*
  15. Her eyes gleamed. “The blood of a king…” she said softly. “Or one just as powerful. Why would I wash the blood off that?”
  16. “Um… are you thinking of anything specific?”
  17. Then I gleefully steal it back and hide in a barrel of fish on a burning wharf.
  18. She snapped it closed. “What?” She asked defensively. “What’s wrong?”
  19. “A change of clothes, and a hair band that changes the color of my hair. And a sword.” She sagged. “I figure I should have something to defend myself with.”
  20. Unfortunately, this is not canon, so I ambush Sequence and then give the sandwitch to Gregorio so he may execute his maneuver.
  21. “Oh… my flute. A notebook.” A dagger, still bloody. “Nothing much.”
  22. “No, I do.” She took his hand. “Please.”
  23. Thank you. I’m still looking for the gold dust to finish them.
  24. She watched, mouth barely open, almost entranced. She shook it off and fiddled with the catch to her bag.
  25. “Of course.” She stood up with a sigh. “If you want to.”
