  1. “Yeah.” She pushed the door slightly open, the grinned. “The way is clear!” She slipped inside, into a kitchen set out with a lot of food for dinner. “I guess we could just go to dinner, but that’s no fun.”
  2. She hooked her arm through his. “The kitchens!” The door to the kitchens was white marble and very heavy.
  3. “There’s somebody in here.” She clutched the dagger but didn’t pull it out of her bag, then crept into the room, slowly.
  4. Abihal moved toward the door, then peeked through.
  5. She hugged him again, practically glowing. “Yeah. Thank you.”
  6. Abihal rolled her eyes. Such pansies. She rubbed her necklace. “We need to figure out who did this.” “Probably, or a result of it.”
  7. She skidded to a stop, then memorized every detail of the scene. Question is, who was this? And who killed them? And also why? She glanced at him, then dropped to her knees and shook him. “Par? This happen to you a lot?”
  8. She sunk into him, feeling much more at ease. Third kiss—no, fourth. Fifth? It’s just as good. Thanks, TAAron.
  9. Abihal straightened, then dashed toward the sound of the scream, making absolutely no noise, as per her magic.
  10. She wrapped her arms around his neck, watching his eyes. As happy as the gesture made her (very), he was worrying her.
  11. Abihal followed, staying well back and keeping her hearing up several notches while masking her own sounds from anyone else.
  12. Abihal did the same, then enhanced her hearing. Using her perfect memory of the room, she made her silent way to the door, then used a match to light a torch so the others could see. “Come on.”
  13. She blushed. “Yeah. You could hold my hand. Or any of the things I said above.” It felt unprecedentedly bold to say that, but good at the same time.
  14. She shrugged. “I never saw a difference. It’s kinda both, I guess.”
  15. “When you held me. When you kissed me. When you came back unharmed. When you… told me you loved me.”
  16. “Sure. I guess.” The idea made her nervous. “Our city is filled with them.”
  17. “Crime lords, mostly.”
  18. Frustration and sadness took over her feelings. “You’re wrong! Why do you think I’m happy right now? Or at least before you started the zinc. You do make me happy—very happy.”
  19. She tilted her head. “Riot?”
  20. “Exactly! Especially when—“ she stopped. “You know, things,” she finished weakly.
  21. She grinned, but a slight bit of her felt shame. She smirked. “Only most of the time.”
  22. “I don’t know. I’m happy. Seems like something you could do with your metals.” She watched him curiously.
  23. “Most crime is a bad Thing. Depends on the crime.” I would know, she thought wryly.
