  1. He jumped. Authors were freaky. “Nobody should be alone with something like that,” he said softly. “Not for very long.”
  2. He carefully picked up the knight to get a better look at the little baby crab. “Hey. You wanna be Thaddeus?”
  3. BUT NOTHING Fair fair. Eek. Sounds scary. If it ever gets close I’ll prolly ghost this place for a while.
  4. You repeatedly click on it and press backspace until it works Its a bit annoying but
  5. Thank you. Thank you so much. …oh. I… thanks. He hesitated. He should probably give her a couple minutes before showing up out of nowhere. Right? Or would it be better to just go and be there for her quietly while she had her mental breakdown?
  6. He laughed again. “You wanna meet Apple?” He pulled out the knight.
  7. Oh, gosh, thanks so much. He pulled a small flower out of his satchel and cupped it in both hands, trying to calm his breathing.
  8. He chuckled. “I wish I could take you with me. But… you prolly have little holes to hide in, huh? You’ll prolly be safer there.”
  9. Yeahhhh but I wanted to ignore itttttt He tore his hands through his hair. I’m such an idiot. I shouldn’t have said anything. How do I fix it? You know her Author, right? How do I help her? Bat hardly knew or cared about Subversion. Probably? How do I make her DEFINITELY fine? Or— not make her. How do I help her?
  10. He smiled. "Hi, buddy," he said softly, tucking his little knight away. "You like chess?"
  11. Fish shrugged, watching everything. "I'll be here," she said to nobody in particular. "Selling weapons."
  12. Bat didn't know this. "Give her back," He screamed. "I don't care what you have to do. Make her forget I said anything! I'll make something up, if that's what it takes--- just GIVE HER BACK. I know you can do it! I... I..." He deflated, sitting back down and wrapping his arms around his knees, feeling a familiar dread settle inside him. "I need her back," he said softly. "Please."
  13. "NO! TAM!" He panicked. "WHERE DID SHE GO??" He called up at the sky, or ceiling, or whatever. "BRING HER BACK! WHERE DID SHE GO??"
  14. "Yeah, I just... the connection vanished."
  15. "Aw," he whined. "But that's my knight." "Hey," he complained, picking up the knight protectively. Well, maybe they didn't have their own pieces. He could survive a week without chess... probably. "Have fun," he called. Then sighed and gazed forlornly at the chalk chessboard.
  16. Wait--- what do you mean? She's your character, isn't she? I know there are things you could do! Wait! Bat stood more slowly. "It was the authors. Three of them. Uh... yours, Rebus', and... I think Malevolence's." He, too, was nervous.
  17. He wanted a good word for Tam though Bat smiled, feeling weirdly warm and fuzzy. He'd never felt quite like this before.
