    Wasn't it? Shouldn't he know a thing or two about people like Malevolence, being one himself? Maybe he was the same and someday when the moment was just right he'd do the same thing and kill Shoe or Gaioh or Tam--- What was he thinking? He clutched his head in his hands. No, no, no, he couldn't think about ridiculous things like that. He couldn't just distract himself like this. He needed to think about the problem so he could fix it. But he couldn't fix dead people. "He's not dead," he growled. "He's fine and you're going to fix him, and we'll all be happy again."

    "Come on." He tugged her toward the doors. "We have to make them see." If he wasn't with them--- if THEY weren't with them--- the stars wouldn't understand. They'd just be stars, background, chatting, lonely, together and apart so so far apart but if he could just make them understand how important it was and how much it was maybe they'd be real and talk to him or cry or help or bring Cricket back, maybe. Maybe they'd bring Cricket back, and then Tam wouldn't have to know if he was dead or not because he was dead and he didn't know how he knew that but a deep certainty inside him wouldn't let him forget but he didn't want Tam to know she already had enough to worry about but he forgot what, just knew that it was very very important and shaking and hard and she needed Cricket back and he needed Cricket back too because Cricket was his friend and if he couldn't help Cricket what good was he anyway?

    He felt very blank at the moment, actually. Blank and alone and spinning, for some reason. He felt spinning. This was somebody's fault, wasn't it? He knew that dimly, in the back of his mind, but he couldn't quite recall whose. Something about seeing Tam in front of him warned him not to try. Oh well. It was probably his fault anyway. It usually was. Spinning... in the stars... he wanted to go back out of the warehouse and drift away and fill up the stars with his consciousness. Make them understand. Maybe then they could cry, too. Another single tear slid down his cheek. He stood, pulling Tam to her feet. "I wanna fill up the stars."
