"You think we should go in yet, or---" Something on the dashboard started flashing. The perimeter alert. "Fought a dumb monster for a dumb town and almost died," Rose griped. "A lot." She shrugged. "That's how it works."

    Bat relayed this to Rose, who swore. "Why? What's wrong?" "Dislocated my shoulder or something," she muttered. He stood up and went over to help her. - He pulled five more out of his pockets. "Don't tell anyone."

    She looked down at her hands. "Twice." He turned red. "Aw, come on," he complained. "No! I wasn't--- I was--- no, you landed in my plate. Scudding butterfly. Now go fix Cricket and Rose." - "You sure? I've got, like, five more."

    "Trust. They'll get us back whether we trust or not." Bat grinned down at her, holding a fork and a knife. - Aden snorted and pulled a chocolate covered granola bar out of his pocket. "You want this?"

    He pointed to a butterfly on the plate in front of him. “I’ll make her heal You when she wakes up.” Rose entered the room, looking disheveled and exhausted. “Me too, please. I don’t know what happened, but I can’t heal anymore.” “It doesn’t matter, anyway.” Bat waited. - “No kidding.”

    “How come?” Bat entered the adjoined dining room and looked at him. “…gosh, you look awful.” Thanks He went back to the dining room with a glass of water and some silverware. - “Million dollar question,” he sighed, rubbing his arm.

    “Go back to Tam.” He flipped the clasp in his hands, strongly disliking this conversation. “I wanna make her think I’m gonna eat her…” - “Test subjects, from how Starlight was talking.”

    “Yeah.” He glanced back, anxious. “I gotta go…” - He flopped into the spinny chair. “What do you think theyre trying to do with these people?” ”Just three words.” She ran her hands up her arms. “The only things I had that they wanted.”

    Aden nodded and shuffled around in some drawers before giving her the items. - Heavy dread clunked in his stomach. “You’re an Author. Don’t you know?” Right? “Hi! I’m Soliel!” She paused. “Oh— and it’s nice to meet you?” She shook his hand. She bit her lip. “I remember other light. Warm, happy light. And… I know my name.”

She’d fallen asleep at her desk. Soliel moved to someone else. “Hi! I’m Soliel!”
