  1. The servants came for him soon. He shrugged. “Does it matter? It’s just here.” “No, wait,” Bat said desperately. “Wait. Why us? Why… me?”
  2. They continued. The crevice became more and more cavelike, with pools of tranquil water and stone shapes rising from the ground. It was nice. “Uh… yay?” Bat blinked. “Wh… uh. Okay?”
  3. He held it as they continued. “Thanks,” he said softly. “Of course not.” She summoned Beginnings. Soliel stared at them, eyes wide. Bat stared at him. “So… uh… what?” “Yeah, how would we even do that?”
  4. Symbol shrugged. “That works.” Bat shrugged. “I coukd go forever.” Bat jumped. “Wh- huh??” @Dragonheir
  5. So we’re racing, then. Not only racing, but competing for the attention of a Plotblade, Symbol added. “Yeah…” Oop mighta forgot abt this Soliel clutched her sword, eyes wide. “Who are you??”
  6. Symbol nodded. “It might be good to find a Protagonist as well, just in case worst comes to worst. It would pose some problems for you, as Antagonist’s keeper, but the plot armor against Evil may be useful, even if it is not a protagonist we can directly influence.” “Thank you. We begin in twenty minutes.” He nodded. “As scary as that is…”
  7. He said nothing, flicking the flashlight on and continuing deeper into the crevice. “She doesn’t need to be now. That’s for later. She is a naturally weak person, and that will serve her well in the narrative prepared.” He sighed. “Just… watch. Don’t ruin anything tonight.”
  8. “I don’t need to. I’m trying to give her a future.” His tone had changed, like he was pleading with Cricket. “Our family has never been well liked. She is the key to changing that, and making a name for herself as the woman who pushed through our dark past and became somebody respected and even revered. But if this gets out… her future is gone.”
  9. He shrugged. “I dunno. It feels kinda… safe, or hidden, or… something. And I can just… leave everything… out there.”

  11. “Thanks.” He stepped inside, carefully climbing over jagged bits of mortar. His jaw tightened very, very slightly. “You don’t understand what you’re saying,” he said softly.
  12. “Yeah.” He ran his fingers along the wall. “Can you Narrate it so we won’t get sick or anything?” “She’s still little more than a child. She’s yet to understand, and clearly you have as well.” He narrowed his eyes at Cricket. “Stay away from her, do you understand? Setting up a suitable match with you hanging around will be darn near impossible. Don’t you dare ruin anything.” He growled. “Go outside,” he said. “I’ll be following. One misstep, and I kill both your little lady friends.”
  13. Ohhh I didn’t realize it was so young He sat down. “I’ll level with you. Her mother and I have spent years giving her everything she needs to make our house as great as I know it can be once more. You will not be ruining that.” “I know what you are. You’re an abomination. A danger. Now WHAT CAN YOU DO?” Five jumped, still clutching his sleeve, and squeezed her eyes shut. He searched along the wall and found just what he was looking for— a crevice.
  14. Wasn’t he nobility? Her father came in when they were finished. ” I’ll expect you to behave.” He smiled down at himself and made his way over the now- treacherous stone floor to the wall. “What can you do?” He demanded.
  15. She stared at the ceiling. “I’m glad we came.”
  16. He buzzed his little wings. Can I be a human instead? Just a teeny one?
  17. He shrugged. “I guess it doesn’t matter…” He thought for a minute. “Maybe we could be tiny, like little bugs, and make a hole in the wall with beds and stuff.”
  18. She nodded and flopped on one of the beds. “It’ll be so nice to sleep.”
  19. “Yeah,” he whispered. “Back to the cabin, I guess.”
  20. “It doesn’t. I either don’t care enough or I care too much…” He tilted his head to look up at the ceiling. “Or maybe I really am just going insane.”
  21. YES THAT SOUNDS WONDERFUL I DEMAND IMMEDIATE MEDICINE FOR MY COLD.
  22. He dropped his head into his hands. “It doesn’t matter.”
