  6. She nodded. “Zeta wanted to talk to you.”
  7. He named a couple medicines and supplies, which the man gladly supplied. “You ever coming back to work?” He asked. Bat shrugged. “I might. I’ll be in touch.” “Good,” Mr. Ginger said. “Anything else?” Bat hesitated. “Do you have any… any Adenol?” He stared at him. “You didn’t… you used it?” He looked at his feet and nodded. “Saved my skin… I wouldn’t ask otherwise.”
  8. He wasn’t tempted to press her. Well, hardly. They went up the stairs and into an open office on the second floor. He let go of her hand before the man inside could see. He looked up. “Oh, Bat! I didn’t know you were back.”

  17. He smiled back hesitantly. Okay, then. He fiddled with the clasp of his bag as they walked deeper into the first level of the city, which was very nice and well designed compared to where Bat lived.
  18. Absolutely furious, the meerkat charged him again and chomped a big bite out of his shoe. He hesitated. It’ll be really boring, Tam…”
  19. I thought I’d refill some of the stuff in my bag, since we’re in the area.
  20. They process forms like that quickly, even if it’s me. He slowed. You head on back. I’ll be there in a minute.
  21. She led him to a heavy-duty elevator that descended for a long, long time into a large, open hangar sort of space. There were many heavy duty doors around the edge. He laughed. They got to the council building, where he filled out a form, suffering under the receptionist's judgmental gaze. Finally he put the paper in a basket on her desk, and then they left.
