First, apologies if there's a better forum this could've gone into! With the Stormlight miniatures Kickstarter closing today, I'm wondering how many people here will be picking up this great hobby for the first time! Is there a desire/need for how-to information for beginners and things to watch out for? There's already a ton of information out there, but I'm more than happy to share what I know if it will be helpful to people. I've been painting minis off and on since the late 90's and pretty seriously since last summer. I've tried most of the techniques and products available and if it will be helpful to people, I can try to compile it all!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm listening to the first Beefs episode and I have thoughts! My biggest two cosmere beefs to date: Wayne ruining Wax and Steris' wedding. The whole water tower thing. It's so over the top that it throws me out, and I have a hard time buying that Marasi wouldn't turn him in after causing so much wanton destruction, even indirectly. UUUUGH the whole thing in Elantris where it's such a heavy-handed metaphor against welfare. It seems so out of place with what I know of Brandon and what I see in his other work.

Got it! Crackpot theories. I don't feel qualified to propose theories as of yet. I have questions about mechanics that I'm looking into! I feel like I need to re-read Stormlight because that was where I started, and a lot of the "big reveals" for the cosmere at large were kind of lost on me. I need to let them rattle around in my brain a while.

OMG OMG OMG I can't wait to paint these!!!!!! I'm going to need to practice my medium-dark skin tones before they arrive.

Oh, snap. I think Soulcasting might actually be my favorite. I love what it implies about the nature of matter! Has anyone talked about how much the little beads in the cognitive realm resemble how material objects are projected forward from ideas in Kabbalah? Like in one sephiroth, you have to have the idea of a chair, the idealized form, before it can move down the tree of life to the material world. I'm not a Kabbalist so I'm not qualified to explain. But I love real-life esotericism, too, and these things seem very similar.

Oh, I'm a basic internet sadboy, so clearly Kaladin is my favorite character. "He feels it as much as any of us. And he fights anyway." or whatever the line is. I can't even think about it without tearing up! Favorite magic system so far? Gosh, that's tough. I want to say Allomancy, but the most interesting thing about it to me are the interactions with Feruchemy. I love the way Wax's powers work together. So IDK. I'm a D&D player from way back so I'm still hoping to see a more Vancian (fire and forget) spellcasting system at some point. That seems highly unlikely, but I'll continue to wait
