  1. I've been listening to WoR on Graphic Audio, and I just got through the part about Kaladin talking with Dalinar about "the Roshone affair," and Kal has this little flashback-ish memory of how the whole mess his life's turned into can be traced back to the time when Kaladin's father was simply not able to save someone whose injury was beyond his skill. It made me think, "someday, probably pretty soon, he's going to meet Lift and find out what she can do, and it will absolutely wreck him."
  2. Only 3 Dragonsteels? I seem to recall him saying that Dragonsteel was intended to be "a big epic" on par with Stormlight.
  3. Yeah, me neither. I really should remember if it was in last year's SOTS, but I totally don't!
  4. Elantris sequels? Plural? This is the first I've heard of that! Has anyone mentioned this before? Last I heard, he was planning on a second Sel novel set in Fjordell, dealing with the failure of Jaddeth's empire to conquer Arelon and the evolution of Derethi doctrine from that point on. But now there's going to be more?
  5. Does anyone know if there is any official artwork (not fanart) depicting the Lord Ruler and/or Kredik Shaw?
  6. Interesting. Got a link for that?
  7. Has anyone asked Brandon this yet: During winter weather times on Roshar, do they get high-blizzards?
  8. Doing or not doing. Wasing never the trying.
  9. Wasing or not wasing, the question of being!
  10. Wasing the watching of butchering of the High Imperial, wasing sadly the shaking of my head.
  11. Well, it's hard to say, mate, so many good ones to choose from, but in the end I'm gonna have to go with Wayne.
  12. Didn't the Harmony symbol get used in Secret History?
  13. Wow! Ettmetal is Harmonium? Pagerunner, why didn't you mention that tidbit to me when we talked last night?!? I have to wonder, though. If ettmetal explodes on contact with water, how in the world is anyone supposed to use it for normal Metallic Arts work? Try to swallow it? KABOOM! Try to wear it as a bracer? You're just fine until, for whatever reason, you start to sweat. (Or it starts to rain.). KABOOM! Try to spike someone? Blood is full of water. KABOOM! This all seems a bit... inharmonious. Anyway, I got the chance to ask a few questions. Q: before, I had the general impression that there were maybe... *waves hand* a dozen or so Worldhoppers around, but this [the new book] totally blows that idea away. So, at the time that Khriss is writing the essays, approximately how many Worldhoppers were there in the Silverlight community? A: Silverlight is a whole city. Q: that could mean a wide range of sizes... A: a lot bigger than a village. Not saying yet exactly how many people are there, [RAFO card,] but they're not all Worldhoppers. There are people who are born there, live out their whole lives and die there. Q: OK. Now, the Weeping that happens each year on Roshar, does that occur each time when the 3 moons are in a particular alignment? A: no, it's more related to the planet's orbital position than the moons' position. I also told him a horrible pun and got one back in return. Me: what do you call it when a Faceless Immortal says two things that can't both be true? Brandon: uhh... I dunno. What? Me: a kandra-diction. Brandon: *grinning* oh yeah? Well, how do you know, when a Radiant shows up at your holiday party, that he'll be well-dressed? Me: umm... no idea. Brandon: because he's in-vest-ed.
  14. So I'm at this event. Or I should be at least; I'm stuck outside because the venue is filled to capacity--the specific thing I asked about in the other thread to make sure it wouldn't happen! This is ridiculous. How hard can it possibly be to find an adequate-sized venue?!?
  15. Yes. I believe we already have WoB to that effect.
  16. ...and suddenly I'm imagining the Terris people speaking with Scottish accents.
  17. I interpret that very differently. First, highstorms are essentially hurricanes. Magic-powered hurricanes that keeps them going for a lot longer over land, sure, but they still blow in strong off of the ocean and (gradually but noticeably) peter out over land. Water is very important to them. In a world with three moons, the tidal forces and interactions between them have got to be absolutely crazy--including their influence on Roshar's oceans. (How crazy? In physics, it's possible to compute the interactions between two bodies very easily with pure math. But a "three-body problem" is exponentially harder, generally considered to be impossible to calculate without running a step-by-step simulation. Roshar + 3 moons makes it a four-body problem! No wonder the Stormwardens' art is an imprecise one! What do you want to be that the Weeping happens every year at a time when all three moons are in a specific alignment relative to one another?) As for the Stormfather "creat[ing] a Highstorm mid-weeping to try to cleanse the planet of humanity," I read that as "the Stormform Parshendi summoned up a highstorm (and the Everstorm too!) mid-Weeping, and the Stormfather allowed it because he was all depressed and resigned to the terrible fate that was to come." I'd have to read the relevant chapters again, but that's the impression I have from having read it.
  18. I don't think there actually is an Origin of Storms. We know that the Everstorm can travel all the way across the continent and then back around the world for more; who's to say the highstorm (singular) doesn't do exactly the same thing? I may be wrong, but I don't believe there's ever been more than one highstorm, sweeping over the world again and again...
  19. It may or may not be where those crazy perfectionists from Hoid's story live, if they're real. I do seem to recall a WoB saying that Roshar only has one continent, though. Can anyone verify that?
  20. Is anyone here familiar with the Hoboken venue? I went to the Philly venue for the last one (Calamity) and it was a mess and a half. Whoever set it up did not do their homework, and booked it at a tiny little childrens' bookstore--you know the type--that was nowhere near big enough to hold the 200+ fans who showed up. I would call it a fire code violation, except it was probably more like 4 or 5 fire code violations in 1. If you were there, you know what I mean. If not... yeah. It really was that bad. With all the fans from this area *and* NYC being funneled into the Hoboken venue this time around, it makes me a bit nervous. I'd like to know if I'm going to see a repeat of those conditions before committing to go.
  21. Good point. I forgot about those.
  22. Which brings up another thing I've wondered about for quite a while: with all these gods running around the Cosmere, and all these inhabitants coming up with religions... how is it that only the Terris have ever managed to even come remotely close to the truth about the God(s) of their world?
  23. In other words, Bavadin is really weird!
