I’ikeq started jogging away towards the mountain, motioning for the others to follow him.

I’ikeq carefully walked around to the monster’s front. “We should… leave it…” he panted. “It’s not going to do any more damage.”

The monster roared in pain a third time, shaking. I’ikeq ran out of the way as the thing started shaking; it collapsed with a loud, wet thud. I’ikeq dried himself off with his magic, breathing hard.

The cuts seemed to do nothing but make the monster angrier. It slashed at Mercury as I’ikeq ran around the back of it and slashed its back leg with an ultra-sharp water blade. It sheared through bone; wet, rotten blood misted I’ikeq’s face. Ew.

Ran’at and E;la’s slashes cut the monster, but it didn’t seem to notice. Mercury’s lightning struck the monster’s bulk with an earth-shattering boom. It roared again, bloody spittle flying from its maw. It looked like it was hurt, at least; ire filled its eyes and it geared up to charge towards Mercury. — I’ikeq started running towards the monster. His four companions could probably handle themselves, but this was a chance to prove he was worth keeping around. As of now, the Elementals had every incentive to just ditch him and continue up the mountain at their pace.

The arrow struck in the middle of the monster’s forehead. From I’ikeq’s point of view, it didn’t look like it did much. The monster roared; a deep, bellowing sound that seemed to make the ground vibrate.

@Ookla the Implosion [Edit:] I’ikeq paled. He’d assumed the group’s collective self-preservation instinct would kick in and they’d run for it. They would probably be able to outpace the monster — it was a Qi’kech, which was a species not known for its speed. The sane decision was to dart away as soon as it saw you. Clearly, he’d overestimated the group’s sanity.

Three hills and six minutes later, I’ikeq found himself sweaty and out of breath from keeping up with the Elementals. Pride prevented him from asking the two of them to slow down, but he didn’t know how he’d get all the way up the mountain at this pace. He’d have to hope Ran’at— A bloodcurdling scream shot through the air, followed by the patter of claws on stone. “Run!” I’ikeq yelled. A huge monster, the size of a large boulder, lumbered into view. It had a muscular body, covered in black fur; teeth and claws as long as I’ikeq was tall. Its maw dripped with fresh scarlet blood. @Ookla the [Redacted] @Ookla the Myopic@PyroPhile

Oh dear gods, thought I’ikeq. Just what had he gotten himself into? Sighing, he started following the three of them up the hill. @Ookla the Myopic @PyroPhile @Ookla the [Redacted]

I’ikeq nodded. Children, he thought, inwardly grimacing. It was hard to reconcile that with the fact that they were much more powerful than him.

“I’ikeq. You?” His eyes panned over the three of them.

“H-hello,” I’ikeq said, out of breath, as he reached the others. Two of them were Elementals — they could be erratic, he’d learned. It was unsettling how they just poof-ed into existence fully mature. He’d seen these ones in training; he was pretty sure they were less than two moths old.

I’ikeq climbed to the top of what felt like the billionth hill. It felt like it would be forever before he actually reached the mountain, which seemed no closer than it had been at the start. He spied three figures on the upward slope of the next hill. His first instinct was to avoid them, but his competitors didn’t have any reason to bring him harm. Perhaps talking to them could lead to an alliance. That would be advantageous; he’d make quick work of the Ke’es, but he knew he would have to face much more dangerous monsters as he got closer to the shrine. Taking a deep breath, he started towards the group.

I’ikeq started cautiously towards the mountain. Time was on his side, so there was no need to hurry. Any and all who made it up the mountain would be selected, and there was plenty of ore to go around. But he couldn’t help but feel left behind as the rest of the contenders rushed up the mountain ahead of him. The terrain was horrible. In the first five minutes alone, he nearly fell because of slippery rocks or false footholds at least times. Gods above! he thought as a rock gave way beneath his feet. This route was too treacherous, he realized, looking up. He inched back down to the nearest flat section of rock. He sighed, looking around— Flap. He whirled to face the noise, water daggers materializing in the air next to his head. A Ke’es, he realized with a shudder. Its beady black eyes felt like they stared into his soul. It hovered in the air, just out of I’ikeq’s range. The two of them stared at each other for a long moment, then, quick as lightning, the bat-like creature swooped for him. Daggers flashed. The Ke’es fell to the ground in front of I’ikeq with a thud, a perfect slice across its neck, leaking moldy black blood. I’ikeq let out a breath and began looking for another way up.

The Battle for the Sandwich
Szeth Pancakes replied to AltonicKeys's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Unfortunately, Sequence has watched too many movies and doesn't understand that chloroform takes a while to kick in. Szeth waits for an opening, kicks Sequence in the stomach, does an awesome action flip, takes the sandwich, and runs away. All in five seconds. Edit: ninja'd- 13683 replies
