Allera shook their head. “Just forget it. I’m fine.” In the Beorin ship, the officer let out a breath, dialing her superior.

Allera blinked once. Twice. ”We’re… okay?” It came out as a mumble, though they didn’t intend it to.

The officer decided she’d rather be demoted for letting the ship through than killed, pressing a button on the control panel and turning on the ship’s engines and air recycling systems.

“Please don’t hurt me.” The officer didn’t respond.

“Eep!” “Fine. Pulling back the missiles. Happy?”

“The orders of the Kkhlei. What else?”

“…” “Gah! What the —?!”

“Um,” said the officer.

“Right,” the voice replied.

“Initializing missile launcher.”

The voice huffed, annoyed. “The… air thing. Whatever it is. Stop.”

“If you keep doing that,” said the voice, “we’ll just blast you with one of our missiles and be done with it.”

“I’m so hailing stupid,” Allera muttered.

“Please just… go away. Stop.”

Allera didn’t seem to be functioning. The engines switched on, and so did the control display. In the navigator, there was now a conspicuous red dot.

Before Allera could respond, the speakers powered on again. “In a moment,” said the voice, “I’ll switch on the normal engines. Even if you manage to make it somewhere before you run out of air, all docking procedures are off. You will calmly proceed to the docking station marked on your navigation system.”

“I… stop. No. Shut up.”

“No,” Allera whispered. “No no not again no”
