Just finished Yumi and the Nightmare painter this morning, I was overwhelmed by the number of things I was able to identify with and be touched by and get drawn into! First off, Asian culture both Japanese and Korean were a big draw and it was lovely to have a Sanderson story set in. The artistic themes resonate with artists, and I think we all see ourselves in Painter who never thinks his art is good enough or that he is good enough, who is afraid of failing himself and those who believe in him. I related so hard that I was wondering "does Brandon paint/draw?", but his writing is such art I can see the correlation. I was giddy with all the cosmere hints and easter eggs, Design is rather a favorite. Very difficult to guess the plot twists, even if you got close it was still different enough to surprise you. I was so worried the whole time that Yumi and Nikaro would be separated at the end, through loss of the connection or death, I teared when the line between them was snapped. I understand that some people don't like the fakeout death, that getting to experience the low and then the high doesn't let you experience the low again after that because you know it gets fixed. I don't know if I could have taken it though.
