  1. Models of leadership in the Cosmere. It's central to the Stormlight books, but shows up in most all of them to one degree or another. And you could easily compare it to, say, Platonic and Machiavellian ideas on the role of rulers.
  2. Yeah, definitely not cosmere. Fun, though.
  3. Here's a new schedule of release dates, updated to reflect the 2014 State of the Sanderson and other recent developments. Everything after Firefight is tentative at best, so caveat emptor. And if you have better or more up-to-date information, please reply and include a link. Thanks! THIS YEAR (2015) * Firefight (Reckoners 2) - released January 6 * White Sand graphic novel #1 - Last year's press release said: "Dynamite plans to produce White Sand as a series of 3 original graphic novels, the first of which will be published in 2015." And apparently scripts and pencils are done for the first issue, so it seems like they're on track. * Shadows of Self (Wax & Wayne 2) - coming in October NEXT YEAR (2016) * Bands of Mourning (Wax & Wayne 3) - coming in January * Calamity (Reckoners 3) - He will write it by March 2015. Firefight was completed in March 2014 and released in January 2015, so maybe this will also be an early 2016 release. * Alcatraz 5 - He says he wants to put this out in summer 2016. Given that he has a first draft done, and that the prologue and chapter one have already been released via the newsletter, this seems like a realistic goal. * Stones Unhallowed (Stormlight 3) - "Writing the book should consume the entire rest of 2015, with a 2016 release." Writing and editing a book of this size takes time, so my guess is it will come out late in the year, just in time for Christmas. NEAR FUTURE And now we move into the realm of pure speculation. Any of the following could come out in the next couple of years. I think the order just depends on what happens to strike his fancy. * Lurker / Adamant - SF novella - draft finished, plan to revise during 2015 * Silence Divine - to be renamed - novella - did readings from it in 2014 * The Lost Metal (Wax & Wayne 4) - sounds like it's outlined * The Aztlanian (Rithmatist 2) - still doing background research * Dark One - YA series - after Rithmatist and Reckoners series conclude * Legion 3 - no ideas yet, but these seem to come quickly * Perfect State - It wasn't in his State of the Sanderson, but he's reading from it on the Firefight tour, and giving away excerpts from it as prizes in Steelhunt 2015. LONGER TERM... 2018, hopefully : Stormlight 4 2020, hopefully : Stormlight 5 Elantris sequels - He says he'll do these after Stormlight 5 if he hasn't done them before then. Mistborn 1980s-era - After Elantris sequels NIghtblood (Warbreaker 2) - Probably after Elantris sequels Stormlights 6-10 Mistborn SF series Dragonsteel - after Stormlight 10 - Coming soon, in 2031!
  4. On his Firefight book tour, Brandon is doing readings from a novella called "Perfect State." And excerpts from the novella are prizes in this year's Steelhunt. So this brings up some questions... 1) Is there a recording of any of these readings on the web somewhere? 2) Will the excerpts be posted to the web somewhere when the Steelhunt is over? 3) I don't see this novella mentioned by name in his State of the Sanderson a few weeks ago. Is it a new name for one of the other projects he talks about (maybe "Silence Divine")? Or is it something brand new? 4) Is this a Cosmere story?
  5. Reckoners seems like the easiest to adapt for a movie and Legion would be great on TV, for the reasons mentioned above. I also worry about this. The HBO Game of Thrones series is popularizing GRR Martin's work, but it's certainly not helping him finish the novels any faster. And I have heard that David Wolverton/Farland's time working in Hollywood and on video games may have slowed his writing down for a while also.
  6. Another thread got me to actually sit down and figure out Brandon's annual output, which is about 1,400 published pages per year.* That's about three regular novels per year, or one giant doorstopper plus one regular novel. If you're looking not just at complete novels, but also at shorter works (whether published on its own or as part of anthology or whatever), then he has averaged 3.3 releases per year. And he doesn't seem to be slowing down. So any way you look at it, I think a minimum of 2.5 books per year is a pretty reasonable assumption. * [This includes some estimates, since I don't have every short story, etc. If anyone wants to see the numbers, I would be glad to share.]
  7. Given the release of Sixth of the Dusk as an ebook separate from the anthology, can we talk about publishing some of these other awesome stories on their own? After all, there are plenty of us who would rather have just the Brandon story out of the anthology, or who don't want to buy a sourcebook for a game we'll never play. So why not liberate these stories from their respective prisons-- either as lots of separate releases, or in Brandon-only anthologies? (I'm envisioning TALES FROM THE COSMERE and then BRANDONALIA for the non-Cosmere stuff.)
  8. What's the source on this? Can you link?
  9. Good news: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/18667-stones-unhallowed-is-done/ Never mind. Appears to have been a stupid prank.
  10. Awesome! Thanks for pointing us all to the good news.
  11. Completely agree. Let's give the man his props. In his first ten years as a published author, Brandon has produced more than 1,400 printed pages PER YEAR on average. (This year will be something like 1,700, depending on exactly how long Legion: Skin Deep is.) That's pretty incredible. I'm sure there are fantasy authors out there who are more prolific, but not many. So let's be happy for all the awesome that Brandon sends our way. I mean.... I can sympathize with the people who wish Stormlight 3 were coming out sooner. I look forward to reading that book, too. But there are also lots of people who are looking forward to every other book on this list. We don't all have the same favorites. So let's be happy for the people who are stoked about getting more Legion, or Wax & Wayne book, or the Reckoners. Try to put yourself in the shoes of fans who finally get to read the last chapter of Alcatraz. Or, holy cow, think about how long some of us have been waiting to see White Sands come to light. Perspective, y'all.
  12. Anyone have word counts or page counts for the following Brandon stories? * Heuristic Algorithm and Reasoning Response Engine * River of Souls * Dreamer I'm trying to figure out how much the man produces, and I have numbers for every other story but these. Thanks!

  17. Thanks, guys. I've started a thread on this over at the Time-Waster's Guide.
  18. Hi! I'm looking for information on Brandon Sanderson's upcoming book releases. So I was excited when I read that "If you'd like to find information about upcoming or rumored projects, we have an article for that as well." But there's no link to this article, and I couldn't find it. Also, I couldn't find any contact information so I could ask where this article was. So here I am, on the forum. Anyone have some knowledge for me? Thanks!
