  1. How Magic in the King's Folly works - Refining the meta

    ah. So... Have you ever wondered, why do all magic systems look the same? The answer is: Defining the Meta vs Refining the Meta. This refers to the meta as a general idea that people follow. So yeah. In order to create a good magic system you have to do a bit of both.

    Anyway: King's folly magic systems

    King's folly, the world is split up into 3-4 major contenients. The Land, where King's Folly takes place, The far lights, or Ithryl, where A tale of two lights will take place, and Lysis, where radiance Inverted takes place.

    It should be noted that the different locations affect natural consequence and defenses, but not the usage of fourth or Mutables.

    Lets start with: Natural consequences:

    There are two Natural Consequences that will happen if you use power. There is no* way to avoid these natural consequences when you use power. Using the fourth causes natural consequences. There will always be one, no more no less.

    1. Otherside. Takes the form of a hotpink and white liquid or big dark purple slashes in reality. These forms of otherside let bad things into reality. The otherside breeches into reality will heal over time. The otherside refers to a force that exists where reality does not, and seeps in when people overuse their powers. It wants to consume everything. The pink liquid is very hyper, and contains a lot of energy. The otherside is just an empty black, constant void but it houses monsters who will attempt to spread the otherside in reality. Otherside is the normal natural consequence. Certain things weaken reality more than others, allowing the otherside to leak in easier.

    2. Elsepower. Takes the form of a travelling cloud force that ammasses together. It is a pale white yellow that can be seen for ages. The elsepower has priority over Otherside, which means you cannot have both at the same time. Elsepower hunts sources of magic, sorting by select catagories. The elsepower undoes inversion temporarily. It kills upon touching. The elsepower will not stop hunting. If there are no major powers left it will hunt those who do not have the Zhialler flags recently. The elsepower will try to pass through a Divergence always.

    Natural defence: The reason why everything isn't constantly being devoured falls onto 3 phenomenia.

    1. Defence against Otherside: Trace. Nature's natural protection against the otherside. Cannot be manipulated under normal circumstances. The amount of trace is present within an object determines how resistant it is to the otherside. It is not distributed evenly.

    2. Defence against Otherside: Skypower. A strange force that travels to heal reality and has a centerpoint called a Convergence.

    3. Defense against Elsepower: Zhianller. A marker left by the elsepower that gives the bearer safety. Often transferred through eating. Zhianller expires with time. 

     

    Other Powers: 3 notable other powers:

    The Fourth: The intangible, invisible, omnipotent, omnipresent force of connection that allows for manipulation of Mutables under the right circumstances.

    The Fifth: Hypothetical infinite power of creation

    Eldritch: A physical binding force made of both trace and otherside

    The Seventh: A much stronger version of the Fourth that takes longer to set up.

     

    Mutables:

    Tempest: Of or relating to air 

    Winter: Water-based structures formed by mind

    Metaluna: Trace properties in metals

    Chroma: Light-based structures temporarily made out from mind

    Hedra: The spacial distance and proportion factor in objects

    Voices: A strange sentient power that sits in rifts when not being used

    Inversion: A mutable that subverts the way the world works.
