  1. King's Folly stuff

For those who don't know, the king's folly is a story I have been working on over the shard. It has been my project for how to conquer my fear of failure, (since this is basically already kinda cringe) and to become a better writer. I hope you enjoy as much as I do.

The kings folly is written in present 1st person and is meant to be more descriptive than Two sides to One Coin, my other writing project.

By the way, I wanted to thank those who read my last King's Folly post and you, who is reading this right now. I thank you for supporting me.

I stand before the resistance. Most of the central kingdom is not allied with the king, even if the king claims everyone is his friend. However, most don't care enough about the king to want to kill him. This group of rebels had been hiding in plain sight. Well, since it wasn't too hard to hide in plain sight considering the king did nothing about the rebels.

The rebels invite me gratefully. They give me their next task. It is to go investigate the king's bunker. They suspect something is going up with the king.

Due to me being the King's Advisor, I knew exactly where it was. I walk through the crowds of people all the way to the castle walls.

The castle walls were a painting of hate. The walls were littered with words of scorn. Death threats drawn in handwritting. Revenge warnings scribbled in neon florescent colors. The words were what the king called the mural of the people. He obviously didn't want to keep them on the walls, but there was nothing he could do about it. The royal base was vandalized with grafetti.

The actual bunker had a secret entrance. The king's "bunker" was actually the basement of the castle. The castle, which was destroyed originally, was designed for ornamental use, instead of practical use, hence the lack of a dungeon.

I open the door to the bunker. It was more messy than the last time I visited. The walls had splashes of food faded on it. Papers flew around to join their kin on the floor. many were folded, but most were crumpled. A desk with a dead lantern that looked like it had been broken into to steal its light stood dented on the floor.

I take a step into the king's little study and immediately felt a cold metal handle. That wasn't here last time I checked. I open it. It squeals like a mouse as the rotted wood strains for one of it's last times. I don't care if the king finds me; he probably doesn't have his hearing.

The passage beneath the land is dark, but torches guide me. The tunnel feels sculpted, as each curve is perfectly cut.

I then walk into one of the most demonic scenes of existance.

Massive braiziers of fire illuminate the even larger cave. The roof is higher than the stars and the ground is lower than the depths of the east ocean void trench. But the braziers illuminate other things. Massive stone horrors deeply resembling giant beings roam the cavern in groups. They are larger than the castle itself. The stones add up and create the joints and bones of these abominations. The ground glows with eldritch orange runes that are ritual sigils. The glow almost looks molten.

But then my eyes nearly pop out of the horror of seeing the worst thing of all.

The king was making deals with the earth demons.
