  1. Caden glared at the man as he sat behind the desk, "That's General Praetorium, priest."
  2. Caden fought the urge to strike the young man for even mentioning the wedding, and his conceited mannerisms only further encouraged Caden to act. It was only the thought of the King being displeased at Caden for striking someone who worked for the Priest that held him in line. He followed the young man, grumbling to himself along the way as his two ever present guards stayed at his side.
  3. "Speak, boy." Caden folded his arms, trying his best to at least appear approachable.
  4. Caden stalked the halls of the castle, relying on his reputation to keep others from bothering him while he was lost in thought. He knew he should be getting sleep, but even under normal circumstances it was elusive, forget just hours before he was being married to that witch. He just needed some time to think it over, since it was all happening so fast. He liked the steady beat of his feet on the floor, one step after another, it calmed his mind even in the worst of times.
  5. When Caden lifted his head from his hands, he blinked as he saw them trembling before his eyes. He grit his teeth as he felt the sting of betrayal by his own body's actions. However, just as the betrayal made its way into his heart, he felt the anger that had been so quick to over take him quickly seep away as he came to the realization of what he had done. He looked to his arms, not moving to wipe them clean as the blood from where the Raveness's sharpen nails had dug into his flesh. Drop by drop it fell onto his trousers, the floor, and even the couch as all he could do was simply sit and watch as the scene replayed in his head. He could feel his hands clenching into fists, but there was no point to it. What was done, was done, and he had just challenged the most dangerous woman in the kingdom, and one who the king had time and time again expressed his protection over. His fists began to tremble from exertion as he moved his gaze from his bleeding arms to the door to his chamber, waiting for it to be thrown open by the pathetic castle guard to drag him down to the depths of the king's personal dungeon to become just another victim for the Raveness. Caden didn't know how long he had sat there, waiting. All he knew was that his guards had been changed out, and the blood that coated his forearms had dried to a hardened and flaking coating. He breathed deeply, feeling his anxiety rising with every second, but there was no release. Eventually, he decided to rise up from the couch, feeling sores and pains that wouldn't have come to him if he had been just a little younger. He didn't stretch, instead focusing solely on changing into a fresh uniform that had his typical sleeveless approach to fashion. He started to fasten on pieces of his armor, still refusing to take his eyes off of the door. When he was fully changed, he took his cloak and swept it around him so that he could clasp it around his neck, allowing it to flow behind him. As he approached the door to meet his daily duties, he felt the stress that had been building for hours coming to a head. He nodded to his two guards that flanked the door, which signaled for them to take their positions behind him as he tentatively reached for the door. He hesitated as his hand dripped the handle, which only caused him to ground his teeth and take in a deep breath as he swung it open, only to reveal the empty corridor. As he glanced around, his confidence rose, but the stress and fear was still present. He decided to disregard those feelings as best he could, marching off to deal with his duties around the palace, completely ignoring about the scabs that had formed on his arms, as well as the memory of how they got there.
  6. "Until then, witch!" He slammed the door, then found his way over to the couch and collapsed on it, placing his head into his hands.
  7. Caden grimaced at the pain of the Ravenness's razor sharp nails digging into his flesh, but it was trivial to what he had experienced in the past. He stormed to the door, and he tossed the Raveness out as soon as he had opened it. He shouted at her, "Get out!"
  8. Caden's hand darted forward as if on its own accord. He felt the pressure and anger that had been building up fuel his movements as he grabbed the front of the Raveness's dress, disdainful of the blood. He didn't speak a word, instead his fury at this woman's audacity caused him to growl louder than a dog. As he grabbed the hem of her dress, he yanked her off of the couch and forcefully lifted her over his shoulder as he ignored any complaints she would give.
  9. Caden breathed, his voice seething with the anger that wanted to burst through his chest. "Get, out."
  10. Caden seized up at the accusation, feeling a growl grow in his chest. Before he could even think, he was standing up, his posture become less stiff as he spoke without thinking. He slammed his hand on the wall behind the couch, shouting at the Raveness through his teeth. "I am not a coward, witch!" A voice in the back of his mind tried to scream at him, demanding that he stop, but Caden couldn't hear it over the blood rushing through his veins at this woman's audacity to call him something so terrible. "And I will tell the king that I will go forward with this marriage, even if you threaten me with death!"
  11. Caden's breathing quicken, Riva's words cutting deep within him. His hands began to tremble at the thought of this woman being in his life constantly, forcing him to always watch over his shoulder. But he couldn't do anything to change that, so he forced himself to clench his hands to hold hide any tell of how he truly felt. He forced himself to take a deep breath, "it's the king's decision, not mine. Nothing I can say would change his mind anyways . . ." He hoped with all of his heart that she would pull away, that she would leave him to be alone. He felt his chest tighten, and his fists refused to be released, even if he had wanted them to.
  12. Caden felt panic come to a head until, "is that what this is about, woman?" Caden felt himself chuckle, despite not feeling the need or even want to do so. It came off as rehearsed, a practiced laugh meant to imitate a natural chuckle that was close, but wrong enough to give it an unnatural edge. "I will never disobey my king's wishes, if he wants the wedding, then I won't ask for a stop to it." As soon as words left his mouth, however, he felt his confidence leave with them.
  13. Caden turned to meet the Ravenness's eyes, which he immediately recognized as a mistake. Their piercing blue nature only made him want to escape from this woman, but he held his ground. "I will not be cowed by you, woman." He clenched his fists when the confidence that he ever so wanted seemed to be absent from his words.
  14. "No," Caden replied quickly. "I know you serve the king, and my death would only displease him."
  15. With every breath that Caden felt on his skin, his heart quickened its pace. He tried to lean away from the woman, still refusing to look at her. "I fear nothing, so long as I serve my king."
  16. Caden shifted in his seat, looking away from the Ravenness as he tried to avoid truly noticing her presence. "Yes, it looks that way."
  17. Caden tried to clear his throat, hoping it would keep him focused on the subject at hand. "I only work to end the king's enemies, nothing else."
  18. Caden stopped himself mid-growl, remembering that he was trying to get the woman to leave as quickly as possible, and that scaring her off wouldn't work. His breathing quickened at the touch of her cold fingers, and he felt the need to hold his ground against the woman's pull. He relented, deciding it to be better to seat himself as far from the Ravenness as possible on the couch, landing him on the far right hand corner, instead of angering her further.
  19. Caden held his ground for a split second before deciding it would be better to appease the woman to get her to leave faster. As soon as they got to the couch, Caden stayed standing above it, determined to at least keep his height advantage. "Old enough."
  20. Caden didn't move, waiting on the Ravenness to make the first move towards the couch.
  21. Caden glanced around the sparsely furnished chamber, his eyes resting onto the couch that he had protested in the past. If she sat on the couch, then he could at least get away from her for a little while longer. He gestured towards it, "sit down."
  22. Caden would rather face an entire army on his own, at least then he'd know how they would kill him. He felt himself standing taller, trying to impose himself over the woman as she grew closer, but he held his hands firmly at his side as she touched his face. He decided it would be better if he didn't speak, as anything that he would say would likely only aggravate the woman.
  23. Always. Caden cleared his throat again as he mustered up his courage, "you've said hello, now leave."
