  1. "It might have felt good," Caden growled, "and I feel better, but that doesn't excuse how you forced yourself onto me." He moved his fingers and rolled his shoulders, feeling better than he had in ages. --- "Can do," he replied, nodding. "So I'll be seeing you 'round, then."
  2. Caden growled, not wanting to concede the point. "I thought I had made it clear that personal space is meant to be respected." ---- "Yeah, yeah," he responded, "I've go' to be headin' back. So I'll see you later?"
  3. Caden folded his arms, "thank the woman who climbed onto my back after I explicitly told her not too?" ---- "I- I'd like to . . ." But it's been so long. "I'd at least like to talk with you, it's nice to talk with someone like you."
  4. "And the general is telling you that there's a reason I don't screw around with building relationships," he growled at her. ----- Fischer returned the smile, but didn't stop blushing. "It can't have been tha' good, but thanks. I'll certainly never forge' it."
  5. Caden rolled his eyes, "I'm better off without this confusing mess." ----- Fischer blushed, "oh, that. I didn't wan' it to be final, but . . ."
  6. "Choose. A lying, pleasant fool, or a truthful brute. I can't be both." ---- "It's been so long, but I don't blame you . . ." Fischer sighed, looking away. "Look, I've spen- What I mean is tha' I . . ." He wrung his hands, looking away from Nico with a small sense of shame eating away at the back of his mind.
  7. Caden glared at Riva, "I'm a general, Riva, and I have no mind for these torturous games. If you choose to be a threat, then you will be neutralized. If you wish to be baggage, then stay out of my way." Caden sniffed in amusement, "or you can try to be that pleasant woman I talked with this morning. Whatever you try, it will be met with consequences." ---- Fischer stopped, considering the question for a long moment before his expression slowly started to turn grim. "What uh . . . What about it?"
  8. "Piss you off?" Caden asked as he rose to Riva's words. "Don't forget who's castle you're in, and who's guards your surrounded by! They wouldn't so much as flinch if I were to order them to slaughter their own families, I can only imagine the glee they would experience if they had so much as an excuse to get their hands on you." He clasped his hands behind his back, "death is common in this house, and I have no fear of causing more of it if you insist on causing problems. Although, if you don't want to be baggage, then you're making good progress." ------ "So nothin's changed, then?"
  9. "I wouldn't care if you said it to me, so it must not be awful," Caden stated as if it were a fact. "Would you prefer I lie?" ------ "Sure, but I'm relieved o' duty pretty early in the night." Fischer stepped away, glancing at the direction of the barracks. "You'll have to choose where to ge' food, 'cause I have no clue about here no more."
  10. "What? Don't tell me that you'd be bawling all over the floor if I die," he said with a scoff. "You may be able to brighten up a room, but that's not reason enough for me to risk life and limb to protect you." ---- "Yeah, even if it's just talking." Fischer sighed, "ya have a time when you're normally off?"
  11. "That seems like more trouble than it's worth," he said as he went over to the nearby dresser to take inventory of the clothing in it. "You claim to have meant well, but if you drug me again, then I'll reconsider my stance on killing you." ---- Fischer grinned as he embraced Nico, having forgotten what hugging this man had felt like. Stars above, it had been too long since he'd been embraced like that at all. "It's good to see you again, Nico."
  12. Caden nodded, the matter apparently settled. "I'll have a bed brought up if you're insistent on sleeping in the same room as me." ----- "Uh . . ." Fischer shifted from one foot to the other, "when have I ever said no to a hug from you?"
  13. "I thought I made it clear that if we are to share this bed, it won't be tonight." Caden stood and face Riva, hands on his hips. ---- Fischer nodded, "I know. That's wha' is special about you, Nico. An' I wouldn't have it changed for the world." He stopped suddenly, and cursed softly before chuckling. "Now you've got me talking like that."
  14. "I was told to prepare for the worst, always." Caden swept his hands over the blankets, removing several nonexistent crumbs. "The best way to prepare for the worst, is to ensure it never happens." He glanced towards the journal's hiding spot once more, "you have anything else you want to bring up other than my or your death?" ----- Fischer felt his face almost blush over the memory, he spoke quickly to change the subject. "By the Stars, you've gotten insanely tall. I can see you being brought into the militia just for that."
  15. "Still," Caden turned and started to inspect the bed, "I'd rather not become some emotional wreck at your death." ----- "Yeah well, I'm guessin' tha' I've been around 'em noble folk too long," Fischer said with a cheeky smile. "I don't know how you've stuck with speaking the way you always have, you've been around noble guys your whole life."
  16. "What am I supposed to say, 'you mean the world to me?'" Caden pointed at Riva, "you can't count on anyone to stay alive, so always be ready to move on." ----- "Oh, I'm just patrolling and guarding areas around the castle." He chuckled, "I thought I was past all of the 'new-guy' treatment, but this is different."
  17. "I don't want myself dead, either." Caden rolled his shoulders, "and I wouldn't have a problem if you died, then I could stop worrying about you jumping on my back again to make it crack and pop." ---- "Years, I know, but not how many." Fischer rubbed his arm, "but it has been a hot second, I was thinking that I'd never see you again."
  18. "So now you're trying to get me to kill anyone who tries to kill you?" ----- "Uh," Fischer cleared his throat, "thanks. You look nice . . . too."
  19. "What, the fools at the palace weren't good enough for you?" ---- Fischer chuckled, "what? That happens when you're in the military, ya know."
  20. Caden scoffed, "any man can do that, why me specifically?" ------ "Only a week ago," Fischer answered quickly, glad to have something to talk about. "When the king was nearly killed by an assassin. The general was furious with the palace guard and their inability to do their job, so he's been moving more of his own guard into palace duty."
  21. He looked at her suspiciously, "if those are your 'wifely duties,' then what are mine?" ----- "Nor did I," Fischer said with a shrug. Those long hours of considering what he would say if he came across Nico again seemed to flee his mind, now that he needed them. "So . . ."
  22. A man of Aithnese descent and wearing traditional robes tried to quietly close the door to the tavern behind him so as to not disturb anyone before trying to snake his way through the room so as to not bother anyone by touching them. Whenever he met someone's eyes, he flashed a smile and politely excused himself before continuing towards the bar, sighing with relief when he made it. He simply sat and breathed in and out rhythmically for a few moments, trying to gather himself.
  23. "Nope!" Caden stood up, "you are not touching my neck for any reason." ---- Fischer looked down at his uniform, feeling a little flustered. "It- It's a long story." He then looked back up at Nico, "you're still working at the king's palace?"
