    "I'm-" He shook his head, "do you want to dance, or shall we keep talking?"

    Caden's back straightened up at the abrupt pressure, but he soon relaxed back into the swaying motions easier than the first time. "Thank you," he mumbled, barely audible.

    "I don't, and I don't like this," Caden lied on that last part, but he had to keep up appearances.

    Caden lifted his head up, taken aback by how liberally she had leaned into him. Even though she had been insisting on doing just that over and over again since they had met, this time felt different somehow. His mind slowly drifted away from the music as he continued to have Riva so close to him, his chest growing warmer the longer she was on him. He found himself smiling while his head lowered until it was near Riva's, the warmth that the small and frail woman feeling welcome despite it truly being the first time that he experienced it. He closed his eyes as he swayed assumedly to the music, or as best he could without actively trying, letting the warm moment consume him.

    Caden stared intently towards the floor despite Riva being so close to him, trying to keep his mind on the tempo. Each step they took had to be in time with the music, right? His chest rumbled as he growled with uncertainty, he tried to push it out of his mind and follow Riva's steps, since it appeared she had a better idea at what they were doing. "Are you . . . alright?" Caden asked as he looked up to see her silent tears.

    "Absolutely not," Caden reaffirmed, "but I doubt that will stop you."

    Caden sighed deeply, "only if you must, Riva Praetorium, the Raveness."

    Caden resisted at first, but slowly relented. "Is this another one of those things where the only way to get you to stop is by letting it happen?"

    "I'm sure I could find someone . . ."
  10. The Ward's Guard
    "You're like a child, trying to get your way even though there's obviously a better one." He gestured to the numerous dashing young noblemen who surrounded them, "you'll have a far better time dancing with literally anyone else, I guarantee it."

    "I can bully literally anyone else into dancing with you, someone who actually was taught how." Caden started rubbing the hand that Riva had been pulling, "there's a difference between 'a little rusty,' and never learning or intending to."

    "No I don't," Caden corrected her, "I came to balls for the King, and this time I came for you. Neither of those reasons involve dancing."

    "No, absolutely not." Caden said as he stopped moving, planting himself in his spot.

    Caden cleared his throat, feeling every eye that was looking at them. "Great, can we go now?"

    Caden sighed, exchanging his bored expression for one that invoked fear in whoever looked upon it. He hadn't needed to practice it, and it kept most of the foolsih noblemen away, so it suited his needs. As he saw his wife look back towards him, he felt his back straighten without his command and he held his head up a little higher. He raised an eyebrow, "all you dreamed of?"

    Caden didn't bother to hide his slouch, with it being intimidating enough for him. "You're going to be like this all night, aren't you."

    "They don't have to do that," Caden objected as he tried to keep up with Riva, whose speed had surprised him.

    Caden allowed himself to be dragged along by Riva, doing his best to look disinterested despite wondering how the blazes his wife had so much energy for such pointless things like this ball. He batted away the serving men who attempted to help him with his cape, determined to keep it on for the night. "Definitely not."

    Caden groaned at the opening of the door, "by the Stars . . ."

    Caden lifted his arm as if to push Riva off of him, but decided against it at the last moment. Justifying that it would do no good to get the Raveness angered at him at this point.

    He rolled his eyes, but relented and raised his own hand to help Riva up.

    "Will it get us moving faster?"

    Caden sighed, any hope of wriggling his way out of this diminishing instantly. "If we must."

    He stared at her dead in the eyes, "this whole experience has been like someone ripping my teeth out one by one, why would you or dressing up make this any more bearable?"

    Caden didn't speak for a moment as he regarded his wife before shaking his head, as if clearing it from some sort of mud. He straightened himself, and sub consciously brushed off a bit of filth that had found its way onto his bone white armor plating. "I am coming," he asserted, "and I will attend in my uniform, as I always have."
