Welcome, welcome! Glad you decided to join us! Guess you could say your spin on the Wheel of Time rewarded you with reading for the best time of your life (..... yeah that was terrible, many apologies. Had the game show spin the wheel idea and the Wheel of Time connection and... yeah... *sigh* ). Lol, glad to have you here with us and hope you find many the wonderful thing to do!

Welcome to the Shard! I'd say everything is subject to terrible memory but honestly I can't remember if that's true or not ! Oh and obsessive reading is a highly appropriate skill here, you're perfect for us! Which is your favorite out of Mistborn or Stormlight?
-
Lol, this is one of the more genuinely entertaining intros I've seen, very well said! Yes, the time before Covid does seem like an age long-long-ago, and unfortunately (at least for some of the more.... special countries) the time after Covid does seem like it's an age long-long-away *sighs in wanting to leave house without having to make a 300 page disaster preparedness plan every time* Hey as a plus though, playing video games all day doesn't sound too horrible... And hey, we your got nerds, we got your do stuff with computers people, and we got your math people (and even as an extra class our doing our best even tho it really ain't going to good [yet!!] people), glad you decided to join us! And my what an interesting philosophy! May I ask what specifically led to it?
-
Yoooooo that is sick!! Yes please do update us much very yes like greatness gooders ! (Only if you want to share rn) what is the most iconic scene in the series for you? Also, what got you interested in animation/3d printing/everything else you gotta do for that??

Welcome to the Shard! Glad you decided to come join us! Welcome to the dark/fantastically-more-interesting-and-entertaining-cuz-let's-be-honest-we're-here side! Man you are getting completely prepared, well done! What was the first book in the Cosmere that you read and do you wish you had started elsewhere? And we can't wait to (maybe even only if you want to ) read some of yours!

Oh but of course! I mean rule number 17b of How to Properly Welcome Someone to a Forum So That They Experience Maximum Welcomeness Warm Fuzzies CLEARLY states that all welcomes much be made with an abundance of zeal ! That would be PERFECT!!! I never knew I needed that in my life. Yknow, I think that also means you've been officially indoctrinated into the Sanderverse (... yes, Cosmere, but I'm tryana spice it up ) if you are autocorrecting traditional words to Sanderson ones!

Absolutely lol! You first have to first become a master procrastinator to learn how to NOT be a master procrastinator. Hope it helped even if just in the smallest fashion! Hey that's perfect! I should have put that as the TLDR Oh and @bruh those are good too! Especially the music for like boring stuff makes it way better -
Boys. Not ONLY boys, but... Boys.
Scout_Fox replied to Channelknight Fadran's topic in Social Groups, Clans, & Guilds
Ok despite appearances I actually have decent ideas on this (not that I always follow them... but still ). The first thing you really need to do is identify why YOU are procrastinating. Because in the end, no matter how many people check in and monitor you now, they won't always be there. SO, the only real way to prevent procrastination is for YOU to develop the skills on your own to avoid it. In the end YOU are the one in charge of your life and your choices. So, how do I identify why I procrastinate? Well... you really want to look at how you feel when you are starting to procrastinate. What is your motivation? One of the advisors I used to have said (who knows how truthfully) that most procrastination comes from a fear of not being good enough. You don't know what to do/don't think you will be able to do it well enough so you avoid it. Another possibility could be simply because it doesn't interest you. You don't want to do it. Whatever the reason, once you have the source of your procrastination you can begin to address it. If you procrastinate from a fear of not being able to do something well enough change your mindset on it. Instead of thinking "Oh I have to start that tonight (with the implicit oh my gosh it has to be perfect or I'll fail running through your brain)" think "I am going to make the absolute worst thing I can and then I'll improve it." Just by removing the need to be perfect or even good when you start, you make yourself feel more open to actually engaging in the activity. Now, if you procrastinate because you just truly don't want to do it, think of the broader scope of things. Find the thing that gives you purpose and meaning. When you are too old to go on anymore what is the one thing that is going to make you go "Wow, that was an amazing life." Is it one change you want to bring about in the world? Is it an activity or field you want to improve? Is it meaningful connections with people you enjoy helping? What is going to make YOU feel successful? Once you have this, picture it in your head. What are the steps you need to take to get there? And once you have those, start to work backward. When you're deciding between a 5 page essay on why a certain rock is named Gerald and not Gerold and 2 hours spent on YouTube (or whatever!!!) think about which one is going to get you to your goal. Instead of just thinking of what you want to do in the current moment think about what is going to help you for the future. Because while things may seem fine right now, if situations change and you find yourself in different circumstances later in life, the time you spent setting yourself up for success will never be more crucial. Procrastinating all throughout the start of your life, enjoying things to the max and never doing anything you don't want to may sound like fun. But your life is longer than just the first chapter. Trading current fun for a lifetime of difficulty is not worth it. One of the last things you have to think about is that your life has to be a balance. Choosing to just work because you HAVE TO GET THIS DONE every second of every day can lead to you feeling tense and stressed. Procrastinating and doing things you want to do may be more fun, but in the end the accumulation of unfinished tasks also leads to stress. What you have to have is balance. And one the most important things about taking it in a balance is remembering that a day has more than one section. If you accomplish a lot in the morning give yourself time to feel accomplished and rewarded. Do something fun not as a way of avoiding future work but as a congrats to yourself for the earlier work you did accomplish. Then, recognize that that section of your day is now complete, move on to completing the next section. You must balance what you have to do in a day with what you want to do in a day, with the preference on what you have to do. Once that work is fully, fully completed, THAT is the major reward. The time after everything is finished and you have nothing to stress about. THAT is when you tip the balance back to the fun side, getting back to things you want to do until it's time to repeat. Enjoying the fun of each day while setting yourself up for the fun of future days, feeling successful in striving towards your goal. Welp... I hope that makes some sense. The last super secret ninja ingredient is just to make sure to gets lots of sleep, when you are tired you have less energy to do things which leads to a greater impetus to procrastinate. Figure out what is going to make YOU be the best YOU and go do it. You got it! Now excuse me while I go finish this activity I've been putting off.... -

Alrighty well that's at least good then. Hope you can get it before RoW! If not... well you might want to start working on a time machine idk Yeah, got lucky enough to sneak it in just under the wire!
-
Welcome to the Shard! Glad to have you join us. With RoW coming soon I think that's a great move! You'll have the perfect amount of time to get all caught up and ready (or just more confused as sometimes happens lol) I would also say in addition to Arcanum, the Reckoners series and the Alcatraz series are also quite entertaining. Slightly simpler in their handling of concepts and not Cosmere but they are both really engaging and fun to read. Reckoners is more on the serious side and Alcatraz is more on the hilarious side. Got one for whatever mood you're in! (besides all the ones in the middle... yeah... maybe just those two moods )

It was also so that people could choose their level of investment. Like there were different tiers to get different awards. It wasn't so much about raising money to start something new but about raising money to continue a legacy of leatherbounds . I believe the official reasoning was something along the lines of "Because WoK is so long we have to split it into two books instead of one and to make this financially feasible we are turning to Kickstarter and adding on some extra stuff to make it more exciting" but I could be totally off on that. It is unfortunate you weren't able to get in on the Kickstarter though! I know for a little while that they had late pledges but I think that's over by now. To me it was just like buying the book but in the format of a Kickstarter idk. Dawnshard digital was $10 and could be added on physical and digital for $15, which is comparable to a regular book. The only sad part is that if you didn't get it through this you might not get it as soon as everyone else (although like Edgedancer I don't think it's set up as crucial to the plot, just like giving extra context to it). I take it the link didn't work then sadly?

Harry Potter
-
Yup it's another X.5 to bridge the gap between 3 and 4. Darn, had figured this would be the case but thought the link might be worth a shot anyway. Hopefully you can find it then! And wow that's actually kinda cool! Props to your ability with another language . And that is definitely something I hadn't thought of! The individual meanings just don't translate to quite the same epic proportions?

Yay!! Happy to have you jump in and join us! Dang, if you've made it through SA, Mistborn, and Elantris I think we could say you like it ! Shoutout to that reddit recommendation! Got you introduced to a whole new world (yes... *cue Aladdin soundtrack*) I would totally agree though, one of the best parts about the books is how interconnected they all are. When it's just a contained package once you're done, you're done. However, similar to big movie franchises like Star Wars and Marvel, when everything's connected you maintain interest because there is always a reason to go back and look for new things or take new material into context. Hope to see you around!

You hath been born from the ashes of lurkiness!! Arise! Welcome, welcome! Glad you decided to hop in and join the fray! Flying arrows and random Shardblade swipes are a common occurrence but we try to keep the potential for life threatening disaster to a minimum Which series do you most like generating whacky (correction... perfectly logical and reasonable) theories about?
-
Sorry, momentarily got abducted by purple aliens so I missed this Good moves! That'll get you more caught up before it starts for sure! Ok I don't know if this will work but if you head to the Kickstarter page it has an option for "Want this book?" and that takes you to the Backerkit store here. Not sure if it's open if you didn't back the main Kickstarter but if it is, you can order the digital Dawnshard for $8 and the physical + digital for $15 (I went with the digital because no shipping so will get to you quickly and easily!) And yeah once you have time (and interest ) would definitely check out Mistborn. Your Sanderson adventures are not complete without! Oooh and that's super interesting actually how convenient! English is my first language so I feel (reasonably) good at it lol was wondering if the books were difficult when it's not your main language though
-
Absolutely, glad to have you! I would say that if you have only read Stormlight and want another good series then I would definitely check out the Mistborn series next! If you want another standalone like Warbreaker then I would go for Elantris. And I always have to plug the Alcatraz vs The Evil Librarian series as well just because I think their tone and feel is just completely unique and hilarious (they mostly target YA so some don't like the simplicity but I think the hilariousness of it more than makes up for it!) Oooof! Honestly to me that's super impressive! If I had to read it in another language idek if I'd be able
-
Absolutely! Thank YOU for giving us this amazing artwork! Lol, we'll just say you were fact checking. You knew all along . For me, I have always been fascinated by the way filmmakers convey subtle meanings through certain deliberate choices in their work and the concepts transfer quite nicely to here. Once you start paying attention to these techniques in one place it's so amazing to see how the ideas appear all over, even in some things you do without even thinking about! Ahhh yeah that's totally what it was reminding of!! You can totally feel the wind of destruction seeping across it and the air of anticipation + determination in Kaladin! Ohhh yeah that scene would be sick! I can't wait to see what else you make as your skills with this format improve. Man! See even if I was overdosed with inspiration I don't think I'd be able to pull this off ! You truly have some amazing talent with this. And I can totally see how capturing the essence and form of him would be difficult. I would just think getting the proportions would be difficult lol but you managed to capture his aura quite well too! It is sooooo cool that you were able to take this image from your mind and put it out to all of us in something physical that we can enjoy! Fantastically well done!!! Ooh and the extra embellishing, honestly, while it could be awesome in future drawings I kinda like the fact that this one doesn't have too many distracting embroideries and jewelry. It keeps it really focused on him and the motion of the scene instead of being distracting. And yes... I definitely think our brooding Kaladin Stormblessed is less of a jewelry guy ! I eagerly look forward to it!! Keep us posted!

Welcome to the Shard! Don't worry about your English it was perfectly fine. More happy to just have you join us! So glad you like Way of Kings! I'd say for me my favorite is probably between that and Oathbringer (but mainly because I'm biased for Dalinar ). I would definitely agree Dalinar's stuff is sooo interesting to read! Hope you enjoy reading more Cosmere books. If you need recommendations would definitely just ask around for what people enjoy, people are super friendly and always down to give a recommendation. Look froward to discussing RoW with you as well when it's out! Edit: Out of curiosity did you read WoK in English or is it translated??

Welcome to the Shard! Happy to have you join us! Out of curiosity, how did you hear of us? (shouting from the rooftops / riding magical unicorns through the sky distributing pamphlets are most common, just seeing if there's any new ones out there ) You seem quite caught up on the books! Hope you find interesting things to talk about here and enjoy the site! Also hope you enjoy Secret History! If you would like to pass our non-cosmic-evil-being-set-on-our-destruction screening test, would you care to answer what aspect of the Cosmere you would change if you could alter any part of it?

Welcome! Hope you are doing good as well! So glad you happened to dust off that reading list or we wouldn't have been blessed with the artwork!! And so awesome you found us too! Glad to have you! Starting with new tools or programs is tough, if this was your first project with the tablet that is amazing! Sounds like the perfect use of an unused present and some free time (besides reading Sanderson and talking to us ofc ). Left you a full review of the artwork a bit ago in the gallery page (hint: ABSOLUTELY STUNNING). And if that's what you can produce while "there are a lot of things I wanted to do but currently lack the skills to execute" then I can't wait to see more of your work. Welcome to the Shard!

Uhhhhh... what? You gonna post that and then hit me with a "if you are learning like me or just curious of the process - tips and feedback welcome"??? Man you oughta be giving us tips, DANG that looks good!! WOW... Ok my first question has just gotta be how, what, where, when, why, who, (rutabaga) did you make that??? I am so curious what program/ setup you were using to make and how long it took. Ok and WOW I don't even know if I'm going to be able to write the rest of this I just keep scrolling back up to the image Ok full review cuz this is absolutely amazing. I LOVE the sense of motion that this conveys. You feel like you are leaping across the ground or flying through the air with him. His posture and hand positions are perfect. His energy and momentum just radiate outwards and you can sense him springing forward into the danger of the beyond. My favorite part of it is the swirl of blue mist across the center of the frame (analyzing with film terms cuz it's so realistic lol) that I am assuming is from the tip of the Sylspear as it slices through the air in front of him to rest at his back. You have captured perfectly the essence of the incorporeal but also tangible form of the spear with it's luminous but at the same time concrete form. The colors you use are absolutely perfect!! The illuminating reds and yellows of the lower right contrasting with the somber blues and grays of the top reminds me perfectly of the Way of Kings cover image. This combined with the swirl of the clouds up and to the left is a perfect encapsulation of that image. I also love the way you balanced your shadows and highlights here. While your eye is generally drawn to the center of the frame first the darker blue of the uniform pushes your eyes outward to be drawn in by the white of his shirt (brilliant color choice to guide attention) and then up to the contrasting lighter tones of Kaladin's face. Next, his piercing blue eyes send you to the matching, shining tip of the spear and is just absolutely gorgeously executed. Further, I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the perfectly executed motion blur. The perfectly out of focus debri flying past in the center left of the frame and the ghosting on the bottom fringe of his cape are PERFECT at conveying the feeling of the wind whipping past your face. Finally, your attention to detail is impeccable. From the shine of his belt buckle, to the distinct illumination on each and every button, to the Shash brand drawn expertly onto his forehead every aspect of this image is absolutely stunning. WELL. DONE.

Oooh good starting spot! Yeah WoK is definitely one of the better ones. The length makes it not for the faint of heart though! 1000+ pages can be just a tad daunting for people new to the series . Glad you stuck with it though and enjoyed it! Welcome again!
-
The original!!! Yes (as Vapor pointed out) you can. You can also "Quote" them as I am doing here which (assuming they haven't turned off some notifications) also pings them to let them know you are mentioning them (as this message should have done ). Pressing "Quote" quotes that one person, pressing the plus icon next to Quote allows you to quote a whole bunch of people at once. With that repertoire I would say you're a full fan! Which one was your favorite?? Also, what was the first book in the Cosmere that you read and do you wish you had started elsewhere? And yes, flying would be amazing! Just make sure to stay away from any airplanes or electrical lines and you'll be fine... I think Reputation is similar to an upvote or a like. If you thought someone posted something helpful, funny, interesting or anything else that you enjoyed it's a way of letting them know you liked it. Reputation is displayed on your homepage and your reputation "title" (which changes as you get get more and more) is displayed above your post count on the left side when you make a new post. But for the most part as Vapor said they're just online points Welcome to the Shard!
