Anyone else get a gay vibe between Clubs and Breeze?
book.spren replied to Diarmadhi's topic in Mistborn
Oh, that would make more sense. *Facepalm* Yes. Sorry. I should have been clearer about to whom I was referring. -

Allrianne Cett I think they were just really good friends. I imagine their relationship would be similar to soldiers who tour together. -
How long did it take you to read all three books?
book.spren replied to Elric's topic in Stormlight Archive
If I'm actually reading them (and don't get interrupted by life or kids) it takes me about four days. Listening to the audio books would take about a week. -
Okay, confession time, guys: I totally binged all three audio books during the past two weeks. Sorry, not sorry. That being said, I'm still going to hang around for the discussion. So, I have decided that I really like how Adolin's personality develops throughout WoK. I completely understand his concern for Dalinar because, I'll be honest, I'd start freaking out if my father started hallucinating and saying he was talking to God in his dreams. I also really like his relationship with Renarin and that he's not the stereotypical first son, obsessed with inheriting as much power as he can. I still don't love Shallan (I do love her in WoR, but in Wok she gets on my nerves). I sympathize with her and her desire to save her family. I like her snarkiness and her humor. But she's still not someone I'd want to hang out with on a day to day basis. Although, that may be because Kabsal isn't too far behind and he's just smarmy. I still love Kaladin. My heart just breaks for him in every single chapter. And I hate knowing what happens with Moash because I know that Kaladin cares about him just like he cares about the rest of Bridge 4. And, I want to be Navani when I grow up. She's awesome. Jasnah is, too, but she lacks the empathy that Navani has.

Is Kaladin on his way to burnout syndrome?
book.spren replied to Jenet's topic in Stormlight Archive
I actually think he's got some comorbid PTSD. I know that it probably started as just depression when he was a teenager but with his struggles regarding not being able to save some people, going to war, Tien dying, his squad being killed, Amaram's betrayal, and every other storming thing he's been through--his symptoms more closely align with PTSD than just burnout or compassion fatigue. -
If that happens, I will quit reading the series. (I won't actually stop reading it, but I will not be happy)
-
Yep. Most people don't really change/recover until they have a "this is it" moment and they realize that they will probably die if they don't do something different.
-
While I really hope this happens (I know, I know, I'm an awful person), I don't think it will. I think we saw that happen with I'm a little worried that what will happen is
-
This is major depressive disorder--the disrupted sleep, constant fatigue, withdrawal from loved ones, feeling of numbness (anhedonia), inappropriate guilt--which we know he's had since he was young. He keeps looking for an outside source of happiness but what he really needs (besides a therapist) is to come to terms with the fact that he can't save everyone.

Agreed! I honestly feel for both Lirin and Kaladin and their relationship. It seems to me that Lirin has a very strong set of principles and values--namely, life should be preserved not taken--and he sees soldiers and war as in direct opposition to those values. I cannot imagine the pain that he feels seeing his son involved in something that he has always viewed as loathsome. I don't expect Lirin to just abandon his values and beliefs just because it's his son that is a soldier. I want Lirin to see that Kaladin is fighting with everything he has to protect the people that he can. I want Lirin to see that Kaladin has formed a friendship with Rlain and that Kaladin doesn't view all Singers as the enemy. I think Lirin's acceptance of Kaladin--slow as it may be--is going to be crucial to Kaladin's recovery.
-
I'm in a very similar mindset. I am really hoping that seeing Kaladin with the rest of Bridge 4, seeing his dedication to his men, seeing his absolute fervor to save and to protect combined with his desire to kill as few people as possible will open Lirin's eyes to the fact that Kaladin is exactly the man Lirin raised him to be--someone who tries to save lives. I'm torn on whether or not Lirin would actually bond a spren but I do believe that the peakspren would be the most likely.

I'm with you. I want to see some moreTruthwatchers especially since we know that Renarin's spren isn't exactly what it's supposed to be. I'm not sure how this affects Renarin being a Truthwatcher but I figure it's at least got to make him an outlier for all the others.

Oooooohhhh! I think that would be an awesome pairing and am now all in on hoping it happens.

Definitely seems pre-determined. I think Moash has some kind of plan to get into Urithiru for nefarious purposes and what better way to do this than to surrender and just be taken there. (I may be the only one but I totally compare Moash's surrender to the Joker's surrender in the Lego Batman movie.)
